A brief update to our story about the Dominican minor leaguers who have not yet made it to camp: The Rangers have not disclosed the list of five, but I was told none of the delayed prospects were among Baseball America’s top 30 Rangers prospects. So just for the record, these guys are in camp: RHP Neftali Feliz, OF Engel Beltre, 2B Jose Vallejo, RHP Kennil Gomez and INF Joaquin Arias.
Club officials also said the re-check of one prospect’s age documentation has been completed and he should be in camp on Monday. The club remains hopeful that delays for the other four should not be lengthy.
According to LHP C.J. Wilson’s myspace blog (tip of the hat to an aler Lone Star Ball Nation fan post), he is going back to the windup this year. Wilson is scheduled to pitch Saturday against the White Sox and plans to debut the windup today. I hadn’t heard a word about it. … 2B Ian Kinsler was scratched from Friday’s game at Los Angeles because of bruise on his left instep. He fouled a ball off the foot on Thursday against Seattle. It’s not considered a serious injury and Kinsler was walking without a limp in the clubhouse Friday. … The Rangers are holding RHP Luis Mendoza back from throwing off a mound a few more days while they continue to monitor the blister on his right middle finger. Mendoza is playing catch with a protective bandage on the finger, but he’ll have to be able to throw without the bandage to pitch in a game. I don’t expect Mendoza to get in a game until next week sometime and that might push him back far enough to officially take him out of the competition for an opening day bullpen spot.
Top of the morn Evan-
Are there any other pitchers toying with the cutter? I saw where VinnyPads gave up that dong on a cutter, has he always thrown it?
Thanks, have a good day as we sludge around in the yuck.
6 guesses at the Dominican 5:
Juan Grullon, Miguel Munoz(already suspended), Denny Peralta, Ezequiel Rijo, Ariel Ventura, Edwin Garcia
Thanks Again for all your help!
