While most of the D Staff was beer snorkeling at The Monk, the Rangers scored 10 runs in the first three innings against 2008 Cy Young award winner Cliff Lee, the same pitcher who will oppose them on opening day in Arlington, and cruised to a St. Patrick’s Day win. 2B Ian Kinsler, who is not Irish, and 3B Michael Young, who is half Irish, each reached base three times.
The good: The Rangers are undecided who to play in left field on Opening Day, David Murphy or Marlon Byrd and the outfielders didn’t make the decision any easier. Both were 2-for-4. Byrd had a two-run single in the first inning and also went from first to third on a single later in the game. It was the most intense test of his surgically repaired left knee this spring.
The bad: 3B Michael Young had his toughest day in the field at his new position. He botched a routine ground ball and couldn’t get a glove on Nelson Cruz’s throw from right field on consecutive plays. Those plays helped the Indians to a five-run fifth inning.
The resurgent: RHP Derrick Turnbow had his most impressive outing of the spring. He struck out three minor leaguers in order. Over his last three outings, Turnbow has allowed one hit, one walk and no runs.
On deck: The Rangers travel to Peoria to face San Diego at 3:05 p.m. CDT. RHP Brandon McCarthy will try to build off his impressive four-inning outing against Seattle from last week. No word on where the D staff will be beer snorkeling.
How is Blake Bevan progressing? He was signed with such fanfare, and little has been heard since?
How were the Indians able to have a six-run fifth inning if the game score was 11-5?
Wasn’t the reason the fans fell in love with Murphy is his RISP numbers? Has that changed this spring? This is the reason we hate TesteroROD and love Murphy? Don’t everyone go amnesia on me………..
@Bob R: Fixed. I was apparently doing some beer snorkeling of my own and wasn’t even aware of it.
What are the chances Turnbow gets a spot in the bullpen?
Any chance Feldman might be moved back to the bullpen where he probably belongs to make room for Benson in the rotation?
Huh?
Can Benson and Jennings be sent to OKC without going thru waivers??
