RHP Dustin Nippert left Thursday’s outing early with stiffness in his right rhomboid (shoulder blade) muscle. He’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow.
We can only say this: Any missed time by relievers right now is going to significantly dim their chances of making the club. The Rangers have probably three spots open in the bullpen and RHP Willie Eyre may be closing in on one of those. Where Nippert is concerned, a sore shoulder might actually help the Rangers. Since he is out of minor league options, the club could place him on the DL to start the year and not immediately have to face making a possibly irrevocable decision.
stick him on the 60 day DL… Saves us from optioning him out and also gives us a chance to fill that Bullpen with another arm.
pardon my ignorance here, but don’t the Rangers have a trainer or conditiong coach that monitors proper stretching and warm up exercises that decrease the risk of injuries? IJS.
Nancy Nichols,
Why are you trolling around the Rangers Blog? I guess you are the wine blogger for D Mag…an oeniphile(sp) as it were. There is enough interest in baseball out there w/o the D Mag writers flakking for one another. Isn’t there? Oh well, chalk up a hit on the D Mag wine blog from me, hahaha.
In answer to your Q…it’s the Rangers. Been this way for 38 years, and counting.
awww that’s too bad he was doing so well too. Hopefully he won’t be out long I have a good feeling about him this year.
Just adding to the support count for this blog (yes it’s important). @Nancy, trainers skilled in excercise physiology work for every sports team. Individual physiology my leave a player vulnerable or susceptible to certain injury types regardless of their conditioning. e.g. (not Evan Grant) a gymnast often suffers impact injuries to the back and knees, a baseball pitcher can easily strain back muscle or tendons regardless of being in shape. And poor Natasha, a skiier can suffer leg or skull injuries due to the nature of the sport. Hope that helps!
My left rhomboid has been sore for a week now, I think I slept on it awkwardly.
