New Video: Sportswriter (Me), Lawyer (Jamey Newberg) Argue Texas Rangers Baseball

The latest edition of make believe TV (link hopefully fixed, let me know if its still not working) starring me is now available on You Tube. In it, award-winning director Ted Price has Newberg Report founding father Jamey Newberg spent a little time at spring training debating the issues concerning Rangers baseball.

The guy is a  lawyer and made lik a  1600 on the SAT (old scoring system) and I’m sportswriter. Who do you think won?

Stars Seek More Points From the Point and Points East

Going into last weekend, Dave Tippett was hoping the return of Brad Richards could help jump-start the Stars’ ailing power play with Richards playing out on the point opposite Stephane Robidas on the first unit. Oops.

At this morning’s practice in Frisco, Tippett had Brendan Morrison playing with Robidas on power play units that featured the Ribeiro and Modano lines up front. (Modano with James Neal and Jere Lehtinen).

Ask Sports Sturm: What is an Ace?

To the extremely shrewd blog reader, this may appear as a complete reprint of a project I was working on 10 days ago for a radio segment known as “Ask Sports Sturm.”

As a point of reference, please understand that I am a sports dork first and foremost. Most of my blog posts will either be a fiery sports opinion or a “super dork” sports research project. I may try to stray from my M.O., but those are my two pitches that have worked for me.

The Ask Sports Sturm projects are fairly involved and lengthy, but hopefully you will find them as grounds for a sports argument with me or with your other sports buddies. So, with that in mind, here is the latest “Ask Sports Sturm”: (more…)

The Very Tricky “First Post”

First, I realize I am moving in to your apartment building here at this new blog, so I will try not to get too carried away with my normal dogmatic ways in the early going. Then again, I am sure I will go back to being me at any second.

Some of you might listen to Sportsradio 1310 the Ticket and might be familiar with my particular program (BaD Radio), and if so, you already know that I am ready to debate anything and everything under the sports sun. I also will spend a good amount of time trying to win those debates (because what fun is a debate if you lose?)

Another InsideCorner Amenity: Free Ticket; Bob Sturm Joins Bald Bevy Of Beat Bloggers

baldThis week, the Rangers will try to sign OF Josh Hamilton to a multi-year extension to keep the power in the middle of  their lineup for years to come. Guess they are just following the lead of your little Corner of the world. We just inked our own cleanup hitter to provide big-ticket analysis, heavy-hitting thoughts and clutch sports talk.

Welcome to the club, Bob Sturm.

BULLETIN: Excuse us for the bloggus interruptus, but I’ll be joining Bob and the BaDD Radio boys (the Double “Ds” are for Dan McDowell and Donnie-Doo. Maybe someday we can enhance that to Triple “Ds” with, you know, the third D, standing for D Magazine). And now back to our announcement. (more…)

Question Of The (Off) Day: Who Is In The Bullpen?

question-marksVery simple request today, just two weeks out from Opening Day: Please construct a bullpen for the Rangers. After Sunday’s loss to the Dodgers in which Josh Rupe and Warner Madrigal both struggled, the burning bullpen issue is not getting any closer to being resolved. So, we’ll leave you to your devices. Just construct a seven-man ‘pen.

We’ll even let you make it more complicated if you like by not limiting you to the guys currently in camp. If you want to include a reliever from another club via a trade, just propose the trade, as well (please no Ian Gacs for Mariano Riveras).

Stars’ Path Looks Rocky When They Need to Be Rockies

Brad Richards’ unique breaker-breaker could be a sign from above or somewhere else that this just isn’t the Stars’ year. Then again, big-league sports in the last few years have taught us that a lot can happen in the last three weeks of a season: the ’07 Rockies in the National League, the ’07 anybody-but-the-Patriots in the NFL, the ’08 Phillies. Granted, none of those teams faced the kind of extensive injuries to top-line players like the Stars have suffered.

But as dire as the Stars’ situation seems now, Anaheim was in a similar rut a week ago. And just look at the Ducks now.
