The Very Tricky “First Post”

First, I realize I am moving in to your apartment building here at this new blog, so I will try not to get too carried away with my normal dogmatic ways in the early going. Then again, I am sure I will go back to being me at any second.

Some of you might listen to Sportsradio 1310 the Ticket and might be familiar with my particular program (BaD Radio), and if so, you already know that I am ready to debate anything and everything under the sports sun. I also will spend a good amount of time trying to win those debates (because what fun is a debate if you lose?)

To those that aren’t familiar, please know that I don’t necessarily have a favorite sport or blogging specialty. To declare one would be disingenuous, as my answer changes as the calendar does. I certainly spend more time on the NFL and the NHL these days due to my employment opportunities, but I grew up with basketball taking a big part of my life , and consider the world of the MLB my true obsession these days (stinking fantasy baseball is my one true vice in life).

If you wish to get a feel for what I believe on pretty much any topic, try rolling through the archives of my old blog. Otherwise, let’s get down to business with all that sports shall put on our plate here at my new home, InsideCorner.

Soon, I plan on defending the “Fern” debate.

Bring back Planet Bob and screw JD in Grapevine!

  • Boomer

Sturm, please include a little bit of FC Dallas updates/EPL/Champions League…not a whole lot but at least a little :)

  • blalock

welcome, cant wait to see what you add to this blog.

  • Jared

Oh dear. Let the Fern debate go Sturm. It was stupid. The entire basis was to ignore the prospects brought back by trades. That renders the entire effort pointless.

  • Josey Wales

Please, in the name of everything that is right, do not pollute this place with anything having to do with soccer.

Fern debate still greatness as evidenced by how much it bothers those that carry red n blue kneepads.

  • Eric

    POW! POW!

  • Matt

The fern post is really un-defendable. It was stupid piled on top of ignorance. Bad combo. Get past it, man.

  • boomer1

Josey, the fern debate doesn’t bother me or anyone else for the reason you think it does. It was just a stupid waste of segement time is all it was.

  • Matt

Well it’s too bad…. I was beginning to enjoy this little blog. Bob is nothing but a frustrated ex- jock who couldn’t make it off the bench for his college basketball team. I get enough of his wisconsin yankee wisdom during the midday show. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. So long Inside Corner!

  • Cristobal Colon

Good for you for selling out Sturm. But not posting the FULL blog in the RSS feed SUCKS but that’s what you get when you sell out to a magazine jonesing for eyeballs.

That and all the crappy baseball they post on here. Now my Sturm blog is going to be polluted with crappy talk about a crappy team in a crappy city.

    Thanks!

  • Brett

Bob, please listen to Jared regarding the fern. You’re not going to win that one.

  • Big Cat

This isn’t going to replace “Live From Lewisville” will it?

  • rob m.

When did “The Ticket” start talking sports? :)

  • Bob Sturm

    Matt-

I wasn’t on a college basketball team. That is fiction. And Wisconsin was not really a big part of the Civil War, so the term “Yankee” is a bit off, as well. Unless you think anyone north of here is a Yankee – which would include Eskimos, Canadians, Elk, and everyone else. But, don’t quit the blog because of me. Just ignore me.

    Bob

  • Rossometown

    Bob,

If fantasy baseball is a vice we share, who was your first round pick, with what pick did you take him, and why? This is a debate that can get fun!

  • Big Cat

Oh crap this is replacing “Live From Lewisville”…Oh well at least I get all my blogging under one roof instead of reading both daily

  • Rossometown

Matt sounds like a Carlisle follower…

  • Becca

like evan said, it’s good to see more bald men on the d magazine blog. wilonsky’s the only big guy missing now.

  • stephen

    Great the new LFC blog!

Let’s talk about Liverpool’s great week. 4-0 over Madrid. 4-1 Over Manu. 5-0 over Villa, plus we signed Rafa for 5 more years. Also just heard Robben wants move to Liverpool.

    YNWA

  • Big Cat

I agree on the Liverpool blogging

  • Jay

Wow, I can finally leave comments on Bob’s blog. I hope the blog content stays the same now that you’ve gone corporate. I also hope that there’s more community around Bob’s sports opinions here than in the old place.

  • Victor

    yes, EPL/Champions League please!!

  • Daniel

As an Arsenal supporter, I would like to thank Rafa, Tom Hicks, and Liverpool for that 5-0 drubbing over the Villans. If it’s ManU or LFC for the EPL crown, I’d rather see Liverpool with the trophy than another Manchester celebration.

  • Spank

    VOMIT on all soccer fans.

  • Gravypan

I also concur on the LFC blogging.

    YNWA

  • BradG

Do you suppose the fern would break both of it’s hands/wrists if it put on a Dallas Stars jersey?

  • Jake

Sure Evan is down for some man on man blog action. Good luck with the new site Bob.

  • Chris

I am a Gooner and would love some soccer

  • Zero

I’ll happily take Matt’s place as a reader of this blog. I would have been here sooner but I couldn’t find it since there is no link to it from the BLOGS tab on the D Magazine home page. Luckily I was able to get here from the ticket.com.

I haven’t read the original fern postings, but I agree with the premise of ignoring prospects brought through trades, since John Daniels trades them all right before they break into the majors anyway.

  • Eric Celeste

Bob, didn’t you post this while ON THE FREAKIN AIR? You are my hero.

  • Mike

Fan of Bob’s blog. Fan of a few of the D blogs. Wouldn’t have been checking out Inside Corner because of its heavy baseball content. Now I will.

    Sports and blogs:
    NFL=NBA>NHL=soccer>MLB

  • Brett

wow, didn’t realize this switch would meet this much criticism. The blog will still be written by the same person, so who cares what the url is. Nothing wrong with the fern argument. It appears this blog will yield more comments…..and more entertaining ones at that.

  • gbm

you even type “then again” fake bob would be amused !!!!!look forward to more good stuff from the sturminator

  • Eric Celeste

Brett, trust me, this is not a lot of criticism for this magazine group. We’re the folks you love to hate. Bob has thick skin, though. Thick, sweet, pale, gorgeous skin.

  • Merkin valdez

    Sturm wears a merkin

  • Gdawg

“Soon, I plan on defending the “Fern” debate.”

Well there goes my hope of Sturm paying attention to the Rangers instead of just going all Galloway on us.

  • boomer1

    +1 Gdawg

There is no defending that bit.

  • GhettoBear04

    Wow.

    …and it gets even awesomer!

  • Big Cat

I’m waiting for the first post with “Suffice to say” in it

  • No Joshin

With the Fern debate, we wouldn’t have Elvis Andrus and Josh Hamilton, but we would have Tiexiera and Volquez.

I look forward to reading on.

  • boomer1

We would have Volquez but not Tex. There was no way Tex was going to stay here. Without the Tex trade we wouldn’t have Feliz or Harrison either.

  • Snark

Drop the Fern and back away slowly, Bob.

  • Michael

Congrats Bob! Now I have to bookmark your blog as opposed to just typing it in. Thanks.

  • dr_brett

Bob, congrats on your bloggin success. I do enjoy BaD radio and esp. “Ask Sports Sturm”.

  • Kurt

Please give me some NHL coverage, but not just the Stars. A “5 Minute Major” in a blog is what the readers demand!

    Baby Arm

  • David M

Hey Bob, hopefully the Rangers can open their season as well as you did this new blog. I started one recently I think you might enjoy, if for anything it has some decent youtube clips. nonechance.blogspot.com. I also used basketballreference.com to make the best NBA lineups by different college’s alumni.
