Turco Sidelined With Injury; Stars Sign 19-Year-Old Winger

The Stars just announced Marty Turco is day-to-day with a lower body injury. They’ve recalled goalie Matt Climie from the Idaho Steelheads, presumably to back up Tobias Stephan tomorrow night when the St. Louis Blues visit. And, late Friday afternoon, they added a tough young forward to the fold.

Climie, 26, is 27-12-1 with a goals against average of 2.30, best in the East Coast Hockey League. (Yes, Idaho is in the East Coast league.) Also, the Stars assigned defenseman Dan Jancevski to Hamilton of the American Hockey League. He played in Dallas’ last three games after being brought in following the injuries to Stephane Robidas and Mark Fistric.

Turco has made 73 starts this season in Dallas’ 78 games. His playing time of 4,262:16 leads the league. Next is Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff with 4,186:09. Turco’s goals against average of 2.82 ties him with Kiprusoff for 33rd. the last time that Turco was unavailable for a game because of injury was Jan. 18, 2006.

The Stars have signed left wing Luke Gazdic, 19, to a three-year entry-level contract. He’ll head to Idaho having played a couple of years of major juniors with Erie in the Ontario Hockey League. Gazdic was drafted by the Stars in the sixth round in 2007.

He scored 20 goals and added 10 assists in 63 games this year for the Erie Otters. Speaking of Ott (sort of), the 6-3, 233-pound Gazdic led Erie in penalty minutes with 127.
