There. Feel better now?
Up for discussion:
• Ian Kinsler: 6 hits, five runs, three RBIs, cycle. Best game ever at the plate by a Ranger hitter?
• Orioles intentionally walk Andruw Jones to load bases in key eight-run fourth inning. Sign that he’s already made opponents respect his bat again?
• Rangers have scored 30, 26 and 19 runs against Orioles. Once played in near tornado in Arlington. Once had game postponed by noxious hydrochloric acid spill in Baltimore. Why the weirdness when these teams get together? Average time of game in this series: 3:21. Ugh.
Let’s play two.
Hey, how about a post on the mavericks. I’m trying to figure out what playoff spot they’ll have. Much more relevant than Rangers ATM.
Cruz appears to have found a consistent ML power bat, but, once again, despite a plus, plus arm, he showed that he is a liability in RF
Mavs are the 6 seed and play the Spurs in the first round.
Which is more likely? The Mavs win 4 games over the Spurs to win their first round matchup, or the Rangers Bullpen gives up fewer than 4 runs to the AA San Antonio Missions squad?
Give me the Mavs….
Nelly is struggling a bit in RF this year, but I don’t ever remembering him struggle in the OF ever before this season. In fact, I recall him making at least 10 nice diving plays during his brief tenure in the show over the past 3 seasons, so we know that the good stuff is in there.
For some reason, he is getting a ton of poor jumps on the ball this year….Evan, any insight on this?
If/When the Rangers are able to Trade Blalock at this year’s deadline, how about going with a super defensive OF consisting of Byrd in LF, Borbom in CF, Hamilton in RF, with Nelson Cruz as the Regular DH/4th OF extrodinare? Make Andrew Jones (if not traded…..I think he will be) the backup DH, and use D-Murph as your 5th OF.
I really like Murphy, but if I’m managing for my job like Wash is right now, I’m playing Marlon every day….he can’t afford to have an 0-13 Murphy playing a lot right now. Its not like Murphy was killing the ball this spring. In fact, Byrd had a much better spring that Murph, and really deserves to be the starter right now until further notice.
Make that Borbon….although I can’t wait for Josh Lewin to say at some point in September, “and Borbon goes BorBOMB!!!”
@JC Go get your owner and his $$$$ and then let’s talk……
@Bad That’s Andruw not Andrew…..he sure looks good right now….hella pickup…I was wack wrong……..Byrd does indeed deserve to start……and Nellie looked comical as he hit the perfectly aligned not to catch the ball…..but his bat geez………if he could elevate the defense?
So if Harrison struggles in the 2-6th? does Jennings get the ball and the opportunity to take it all the way………he’s our long man mentoring for the rotation, right? So this puts him in that mode, right?
Oh Evan McCarthy said he was thinking 8 yesterday…..so there…..
How did we lose Clayton Kershaw? Shouldn’t there be a Chris Young rule that any local pitching prospect must give the Rangers first right of refusal?
The non-pitchers have figured out that they can’t trust the bull pen
Evan,
I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I think this peformance warranted what I wrote 2 weeks ago as the number 1 reason why the Rangers can compete THIS year:
“Your American League MVP, Ian Kinsler. Ian very well might have won this award last year if he hadn’t gotten hurt (come on, Dustin Pedroia isn’t near the player he is). Everything about this guy screams winner. From the way he wears his pants (high, with full legging on display) to the way he celebrates a teammate’s walk-off homer (jumping over the railing and falling down like an idiot). Watch this guy. Every night. In 30 years you’ll be telling your kids about him.”
I am developing serious man-love for this guy. I almost woke my 6 year old up to see the cycle replay (every time I mention Ian, he says “dad, why are you so obsessed with Ian Kinsler”. Well THAT’S WHY!!
As for the IBB to Andruw… seen Blalock lately? I’d walk almost anyone to get to him right now.
Evan, didn’t the Rangers play an 18 inning game with the Orioles too? It’s been years though.
the wackiness between the Orioles and Rangers probably has something to do with the fact that the Orioles have had the only pitching staffs over the last few years that can rival the Rangers suckage… Id argue that the Orioles SP this year suck way worse than the Rangers SP:
Jeremy Guthrie = Good pitcher, but their only one
Koji Uehara = The guy was a RP in Japan last year, he can barely hit 87 on the radar gun, i dont think he’ll last that long as a SP.
Mark Hendrickson – This guy has barely hung on the last two years as the Marlins Long man out of the bullpen, has a 5. something lifetime ERA.
Alfredo Simon – Are you kidding me? This guy sucked in the Mexican League.
Adam Eaton – This guy has sucked so royally bad the last couple of years that his Ranger Days actually look good.
thats one rotation of suckage.
I gave up on Rangers starting pitching long ago. Is it really that hard to get get a BA bullpen to support the bats? It seems that could be realistic solution. Bottom barrel SP and above avg. RP + ranger offense = possible winning team. Original thought no. Good idea? With Feliz and Holland on the way up in ’10 maybe the wins are a year away. I’m gonna dream of an ice cream mountain now.
There’s a point at which your offense is so good that you can legitimately have a shot at contending even with a JV bullpen. I think the Rangers are awfully close to that point, as long as they stay consistent (we’ve yet to see that). Here’s to a season of 12-8 wins!
