Perhaps the easiest stretch of the season is the 12 games to start the year that feature nine games at home and none against teams that had winning record in 2008. And with two games left in the stretch, the Rangers can do no better than .500. This is a what you call a wasted opportunity. So where does the blame go for this sub-par start? You can only pick one.
• The bullpen, which has an ERA of 8.63.
• Manager Ron Washington, whose career winning percentage in April is .387. Kevin Sherrington discussed potential ramifications from another poor April this morning.
• The starting rotation, which has produced just three quality starts and has a 5.98 ERA for the season.
“WAAAASH”
um… pinch hit Omar Vizquel for Michael Young with the bases loaded !?
What was that? I thought this team wasn’t supposed to give up, no matter how dire things look.
Well the starter ERA would be better with a decent bullpen.
Can Wash make it until his birthday? I’ll buy the cake. Give him a party with a trip for about six months, or so, as a prize. He can take some of these coaches, also.
Help us here, Evan.
Nobody but Millwod is throwing strikes (hold our breaths here), 1 big blow out game, and, other than that, no clutch hitting-and the bullpen (except francisco) is absolutely awful.
Where do we go from here?
Please Mr. Hicks, do the right thing and end RW’s time. If you want any kind of attendance at the Ballpark and any kind of advertizing for the TV and Radio you need to do something tonight, not in the morning, but do it tonight.
i’m not saying washington makes perfect decisions every time, but it is ridiculous to blame him for the 12 runs that were given up. even with a perfectly managed game, it’s unrealistic to expect anything other than a loss when you give up 12 runs. it was washington’s fault rupe threw that pitch right down the middle and gave up a 3 run home run wasn’t it?
I became so chapped that I did not finish. Who picked the pitcher(?) to bring out of spring training?
Ok. I was at the game tonight and there is NO reason that Nelson Cruz shouldn’t be standing at 3rd base in the bottom of the 7th after the single to right. Happened again in the bottom of the 9th (different runner). I’ve tried to be a Wash fan but after tonight that’s not an easy position to defend. You know whoever you put on the mound is gonna get shelled, which says to me you need to be even more aggressive. But tonight the team gave up right after they finally knocked out the starter. Why?! Maddening.
If this team gets swept this weekend, Wash is probably gone. Not that changing managers will make a difference with this bullpen, but management has to do something symbolic to show the fans an effort is being made to correct things. Whoever gets the job will be stepping into a good thing in a year or so, but at least the fans will cut them some slack long enough for the studs in the minors to get here.
Can’t blame injuries. JD traded Young, Danks and Gallaraga. Rupe is still done after last season. Still, noone seems to be in charge and have control of the situation. Wash is worried about handing out the at-bats like a little league manager, being fair, defending his guys. I think he is at a loss to handle difficult situations, and the game moves too fast for him.
I haven’t been happy with some of Wash’s recent decisions, but frankly, if every guy you’re gonna throw out there out of the bullpen is giving up runs it doesn’t matter what you do, you’re screwed.
