Rangers are now at .500 (10-10) with fourth win in last five games after coming back from a 3-1 deficit heading to the bottom of the sixth.
Discuss these amazing feats:
• The Rangers win without hitting a homer for the first time this season.
• RHP Kevin Millwood pushes himself to go one extra inning, ends up with eight innings, 121 pitches (tied for most in Ron Washington era) and his second win of the season after Rangers score in bottom of eighth.
• RHP Frank Francisco as the Rangers closer: 2-0, 11 saves in 11 attempts, a 0.00 ERA, 30 strikeouts and just five walks.
5 htis, 5 runs, right? fantastic. and no homers. i heart the small ball. good times.
Awesome Game! Millwood pitched his guts out.
The Rangers might have won this game last year but it would have been up to more bullpen which we all know by now can be a crapshoot. This looks like the evolution of Wash in Managing and some Nolan influence by suggesting going longer with pitchers who can handle it. Sometimes it’s good to forget designated 7th, and 8th inning relievers. F. F. is a STUD. Millie worked it. This is a very good win for a lot of reasons. Minimum Bullpen is a biggie. More ammo in the pouch for the next two games of this series.
That last feat makes me salivate.
i fully agree. the fact that the only bullpen call was the closer was huge. first of all, they need the rest for helping those starters that can’t go that far. second, i think everyone in the clubhouse will notice the faith and strength it took to let the starter go a full 8. things like this ignites teams. and for us fans, just plain fun to watch.
& it got milly a well deserved win
& it got my pants all gushy.
Only 12k watching tonight, I gotta go see those Boyz Wed. This is exciting baseball…
For a Seamhead!
….And the best news of all is that Milly will be in another contract year next season after he reaches the 180 inning plateau this year.
Is it just me, or does it feel like he is on pace to reach that by the All-Star break?
Also, does any IP he gets in the All-star game count toward this total…b/c he is pitching like he belongs there. Great outing. This is EXACTLY the kind of leadership that he is paid the big bucks to deliver. This goes such a long way toward teaching the youngin’s what it means to be a Major Leaguer (Holland, Harrison, BMac, Feldman). Very nice, I like…
5 walks to go with the 5 hits….and Andruw walks twice…..I have to think that is players listening to the Wash patience sermon……
Eey “without getting an extra base hit” (I think).
JustSaying: when it come to batting, Rudy is the only one the players listen to.
Two key differences in the teams tonight. Although Oakland had twice as many hits, they walked five, to only two by the Rangers. And then Evan’s favorite statistic RISP shows how the Rangers won.
@rob hen maybe Wash talked to Rudy…..5 walks from an aggressive first pitch swinging team…..they showed they do know how to manufacture runs
All I know is that Millwood has yet to go LESS than 7 IP (knock on wood) in the first 5 games! Our ERA is not leaps and bounds better, but our starters are going much much deeper into the games. I love it. Jones has been a wonderful surprise. Everyone should learn from his patience at the plate. We’re a little too swing happy. All-in-all, I’m lovin’it!
frank frank has gotta start getting some recognition soon…
Can we start calling him Frank the Tank?
I still like Two Frank, but whatever as long as he starts getting some national love.
