Are You Tired Of A-Rod Allegations? Me, Too, But Here Are More

Listen, none of the allegations that have leaked out about Alex Rodriguez’s vain, narcissistic and cad-like behavior have surprised me, but I’ve got to say that the amount of leakage over details in the book sounds more like a publicity tour for the book and less like journalism with each passing day.

Today, Sports Illustrated does a Q&A with Sports Illustrated’s Selena Roberts, the author of the new book, about the alleged pitch-tipping during Rodriguez’s time in Texas. Also, there is some reaction from former Rangers teammates of Rodriguez – R.A. Dickey, Shane Spencer and Doug Glanville – who basically say the same thing I just said: They aren’t surprised, but they know nothing about the allegations.

Over the weekend, I heard of the clubhouse attendant who was allegedly in charge of putting toothpaste on Rodriguez’s toothbrush after every game. Again, I don’t doubt this happened on occasion, but I don’t know that it was a daily duty. And after speaking with several folks in the Rangers clubhouse, they said the same thing. During Rodriguez’s time with the Rangers, the club hired and then fired clubhouse attendant named Tommy Boland, who Rodriguez recommended. Basically, the reasoning given was that Boland wasn’t fitting in with the rest of the clubhouse attendants. He was hanging out with Rodriguez outside of work and spending extra attention on him and a selected group of players.,

“I just didn’t like his work ethic, period,” said clubhouse manager Zack Minasian.

What I can’t believe is that I spent 15 minutes this weekend checking into who was putting toothpaste on Alex’s toothbrush. Shame on Alex if he asked somebody to do that; shame on the person who did for lowering himself to such a servant-like level; shame on me for wasting time on this and shame on almost everybody who shows a great deal of interest in this “story.”

Thus endeth the rant.

Shame on me for reading this post???

@Little O: I know, I’m full of contradictions in that paragraph, but don’t you think we’ve kind of gotten off the track on the Alex thing?

Nothing surprises me with A-Fraud but this particular story, if true, is too low even for him. The only thing that actually lends credence is the fact that he put up exceptionally good numbers (especially home runs and RBI) when the game was a blowout.

Little O: Shame on all who read it!

    Evan-

Just carrying it to it’s logical conclusion :)

As I said in the post the other day about tipping pitches – there are plenty of facts that make him out to be a douche without putting stuff like this out there. The problem will be when people start picking this book apart and find a couple of points that can be shot down and the whole book comes under suspension.

The natural course of events will then dictate that since a few bullet points are false then it means ARod is a great guy and teammate and the press is out to get him.

Thus he emerges more golden than ever.

please tell me that this book, and the roids truth will kill any chances he has for the HOF? (Even if he is the HR leader)

i get very passionate about the steriod issue, so much more so than is warranted in me commenting my feeling on it. but i will say that even if the book is filled with some half-truths, i think it will permanently damage a-rod. because he never would have admitted to it had it not been for the book. there’s a special place on God’s DL for chumps like him. i actually hope he doesn’t play much more. but i’m sure that’s unlikely.

I have absolutely NO love for ARod but anyone who is interested in this story should first go read the Jason Whitlock column on the woman who wrote it. She is the same woman who created all the furor (and convicted in the media)the Duke men’s lacrosse team. She is woefully short of credibility.

If the book is full of lies, Alex can always sue the author and publisher. That’s what any other innocent person would do.
Right, Alex? Alex? Scott Boras? Anyone?

  • JustSaying

What I hate about all this is that it was our owner that gave him that $252 mil contract…..I am embarassed for the organization by that mistake and that will never go away…..so the hanging of A-Fraud will always be a double-edged sword for Ranger fans……

I would imagine that if someone stands up and says: “Yeah, he tipped pitches to me” then A-Rod will be spending lots of time with Pete Rose.

It really doesn’t matter if the game was a blowout or not.

There is no way this is true…think about it. How do you even approach someone with “hey man I’ll tip piches to you if this game is a blowout if you’ll do the same for me?” And if AROD did that, you mean to tell me there isn’t one player out there that said “hell no, I’m not doing that”…

If this happened, a player that turned AROD down would have come forward way before now. That is so far off the charts of the scale of reality that it can’t possibly be true.
