Oh, what the hey. I’m up. You’re up. We’re all up. I just think we needed to throw the score up there somewhere for folks who are out partying, living it up and otherwise missing out on the art work that was Matt Harrison’s start tonight.
Which brings me to the real reason I’m putting this post up. For me, one thing that stands out about Harrison’s outing is that he did it against a team he faced just five days ago. I know the White Sox are struggling with the bats, but they are a good hitting team and good hitting teams usually make adjustments on young pitchers in such a short amount of time. That Harrison was able to extend his scoreless streak to 19 innings (14 of them against the White Sox) says either the White Sox are in a really bad slump or Harrison, Taylor Teagarden and Mike Maddux put together a sharp pitching game plan that accounted for the possibility Chicago would be looking for the stuff it saw on Sunday. For now, I’d go with the latter. Give the Rangers credit for being a step ahead. A step ahead on pitching. What a strange world it is these days.
Confidence, confidence and some more confidence. That is what Maddux has brought to this pitching staff.
I admit it, I had crossed out the Matt Harrison part of the trade equation that was Tex/Mahay for Salty/Feliz/Andrus/Harrison/Beau Jones and still considered it a major win for the Rangers. We are 3-4 months away from seeing all the parts of that trade in the majors. Incredible.
Oh, what the hey. I’m up. You’re up. We’re all up.
Killing me Smalls!
Man, why didn’t you tell us you had this one up? I was just looking for more comments on the other one!
i think an added additon of all headlines should be a tally of days that the rangers are number one. i don’t understand interwebs and blogs and all this crazy computer stuff. but make it happen. thank you.
Evan, Somebody has to take this blog and write a play about it and the participants.
We have such wild swings from flights of fancy to SWAGs; from baseball purists to Friday night baseball junkies; personalities aplenty to mine for the motherlode of contention and convention. Also a pretty good team. You might take over Pappadeaux on Monday.
It’s all such a trickle down affect. The longer our starters go; the more effective they are; the less our bullpen has to be used; the fresher they are. This will really be noticable if we can continue this on into August/September. Starting pitching is overachieving in a big way!!
I’m really pissed that I missed this gem. Sounds like whatever maddox is selling, these guys are buying and I’m loving every minute if it. Btw, congrats on the 300 comments. Just try not to forget the ones that have been here the entire time when this blog hits the big time
@ becca, I love your style. Sounds like half of the bosses I’ve ever had.
Harrison is in the zone…….he’s not only had an epiphany but he has metamorphized into this beautiful lefty top of the rotation kinda guy……i have him penciled in for 15 wins this year…….i’m scared to say that but he is going to stretch out his streaks for the good this year and while he’s on he is one exciting beast!!!!!!!!
Right at half of the hits from the bottom three in the order. When the second ‘Clean-Up’ batter contributes the top of this order will deliver. Who would have figured Vizuel and Andrus having this kind of contribution?
Wash is now able to incorporate all of t his wish list of game activities; bunts, steals and squeezes. Players listen better when they are winning.
I missed all the excitement while watching my son’s high school lacrosse team (Redwood) whip up on their football nemesis (Novato)…..it’s fun to win!
@Tom when I saw Kinsler walks, steals second, scores on Vizquel single I just started chuckling……i’d much start the game that way than with a homer……Just Saying……..
I don’t think it’s a case of either or, more like a bit of both. The changes that Maddux has brought have led to an increase in confidence but also the Sox were not exactly the smartest hitters I’ve ever seen.
Great job by Harrison though.
What a debacle that would’ve been if Eddie Guardado had seriously messed up Harrison’s eye with his shaving cream pie slam on the postgame show. I saw more velocity on that than anything Eddie has thrown off the mound this season. Glad Harry was alright.
If Teagarden is going to be Harrison’s personal catcher, does that mean he’s going to stick around at least for the entire year to help Harrison develop? If it reduces the chances of him being dealt, maybe it increases the chances of another C like Ramirez or Pina going.
Great game by Harrison but you must not have heard Harrison’s comment. It definitely wasn’t the latter. He said that he would have pitched differantly than he did last game if they would have made an adjustment but they didn’t so he was able to pitch the same.
