Vicente Padilla Has Strain In Right Shoulder; Derek Holland To Start

He returned to Dallas after feeling uncomfortable following a bullpen session. He will not pitch tomorrow at Houston. He will probably be placed on the DL on Friday and be activated on June 1. …. Derek Holland will make his first major league start tomorrow. … The Rangers don’t feel the shoulder strain is very serious, but he can’t make this start and the Rangers are not going to go into interleague games short-handed.

    How streched out is Holland right now? After a month in the ‘pen can he go more than 60 or 70 pitches?

    Frankie comes off the DL and takes Padilla’s place, and Mad Dog stays in the pen.
    I would think that, barring any blowups, Holland can go 70 – 75 pitches, or around 5 innings.

    Not expecting anything glamorous … just want to see an efficient, effective outing … give ‘em hell, kid !!

    He hasn’t pitched since the 15th–7 days. I don’t see any reason why he’d be limited.

    @dan: except that he’s not stretched out – unless they anticipated this after Padilla’s last start and had him throw extra. That could be why he hasn’t pitched – so he could make this start.

    Well, happy for Holland, obviously, but Padilla looked like he was really finding a groove lately. The part about him havign to miss a start I DO NOT like.
