Mark Cuban Not Interested In Buying Rangers Stake

Received an email response from Mark Cuban a few moments ago in which he pretty much summed up his thoughts about getting involved in Rangers ownership: “No interest in buying any other sports franchise at this time.”

That’s actually great news. I come from the Chicago area and my #1 team is the Cubs (Rangers #2). And no I am not a poser, but am a real lifelong Cubs fan (50 years).

I was relieved that Cuban was not able to purchase the Cubs. And do not think for a moment that this insider trading stuff he is facing is not the direct result of his tactics with the baseball owners. The baseball owners good old boys club has little use for Cuban’s irreverence for the game. There is no way Reinsdorf would permit Cuban to buy into a major league franchise—not then and not now.

This is payback for Cuban’s lack of respect and his unwillingness to do what is necessary to gain memebership into an extremely tight and exclusive club. Cuban thinks he is so cool by making his presentation in blue jeans and a tee shirt instead of a suit—showing no respect.

Lastly, I hope everything Mark Cuban does fails. He is a classless anti-American leftist who dug his own hole. They ask why is Maverick TV viewership down? Announcers? Team? Schedule? No it because many folks like me will not do one thing to put a nickle into the pocket of an anti-American like Cuban— thanks to his disgrace of a movie. Cuban can have any political opinion he wants, but once it is foisted publicly then all bets are off. Cuban has shown me that he has extreme leftist and Marxist values and I respect those values by NOT watching or atttending the product he puts out.

Glad he won’t be involved weith the Rangers.

anti-American? Really? “once it is foisted publicly”. Like your opinion in this blog?

  • Dusty Y

I’d like to see cuban as the owner, simply b/c we’d see an owner who was passionate about his product. But at the same time, i would hate for him to come in and become the next Steinbrenner and buy all the players. Baseball and basketball operations and player structures are completely different.

  • Mac the knife

JLS,yeah like my opinion on this blog. And you don’t really get it. I don’t care if Mark Cuban is a leftist or not (he is), but once he offers his nonsense to the public, I can chose not to support him or anything with which he is associated. Also, as for my opinion, I am not asking you to spend money with me so my comments are what they are. If the leftist Cuban was not in the public arena there would be no issue. So to sum up for you—Cuban is a leftist—he owns product—he distributes product—and I chose not to buy. So JSL, is that simple enough for you?

  • Greg

    Yeah, Cuban is a real anti-American: http://www.fallenpatriotfund.org/

The baseball good-old-boy club is one reason steroids and other p.e.d’s became such an out of control issue. And the fact they keep Bud Selig as commissioner further tells how badly they need new blood.

Cuban would be an outstanding owner to have for the Rangers.

Mac, this is a Baseball forum. You won’t get much empathy or tolerance when it comes to a highly political opinion.

Or, as the youngsters say in tech forums: “Obvious Troll is Obvious.”

  • Mac the knife

Greg, Please read the comments before you post. I called Cuban a leftist not anti-American—that’s what makes the country great—we can chose our own road to follow no matter the belief. He can still do kind things but be extremly left wing orientated. Whether or not Cuban would make a good owner in baseball is not even debatable because this self centered narcissist was not smart enough to play the game to receive the invitation to join the club. My what a cool dude he is—he is just so much the individual in his tee shirt and blue jeans! So if I have this right, he had the highest bid for the Cubs and was still shot down— I wonder why. Therefore there is no debate because he is not in the club nor will he ever be. For the record, I think his forward thinking on certain issues would invigorate the ownership clique in baseball, but being as self absorbed as he is he couldn’t lower himself to play along to gain entrance. So to sum up, “Sorry about his damn luck!” And by the way keep drinking the Kool Aid. The Mavericks have won how many championships? And can you tell me, has the team regressed or progressed to elite status after the Miami debacle? Oh yeah and is Cuban a catalyst for the negative officating we see in almost every Mavs game or does his all arounf model behaviorbehavior have the refs blowing less whistles? He is a self absorbed show boat who cannot stay out of the spotlight and is an impediment to the team every time he shows his goofy mug and bad haircut sitting behind the bench. Give me a break on this guy. You need to de-tox off the Kool Aid.

Good gracious me! Evan’s ever-so-brief update surely pushed a wee little button inside Mr. Mac’s head! :D

  • James

So when you said, “Lastly, I hope everything Mark Cuban does fails. He is a classless anti-American leftist who dug his own hole.” You were only saying that he is a leftist?

  • Chad

That’s a shame. I was looking forward to Cuban running out on the field in a blind rage to argue with umpires, players and coaches, followed by him cursing out Bobby Jenks’ mother in the stands. If it’s one thing MLB needs, it’s more owners with the class of Cuban.

  • becca

but jeans get too hot in the summer time. he wouldn’t be able to make it to many games since all he wears is jeans and tshirts. maybe he can get classy and try shorts if he ever gains interest in buying the franchise.

  • Ghost of Jeff Kunkel

@Chad: I could totally see him doing a George Brett Pine Tar impersonation.

As a long time Mavs fan who endured some ugly butt-whippings in the early ’90s, I can say that 9 50+ win seasons in a row is pretty prefferable to how “competetive” the Mavs were pre-Cuban. Do Championships matter more? Yes. But sucking year after year is demoralizing. Ask a Clippers fan if they’d take the Mavs “lack” of success.

To put it in Baseball ters, imagine if the Rangers had 9 straight seasons of 98+ wins in the regular season, but no WS. Would you take that?

  • Ranger_Rick

Not interested in Cuban being the Rangers owner. He is classless, nothing but a big T-baby. Doesn’t even have the courage to apologize to someone’s mother and family in person but posts on his “blog” at 1:30 am while hiding in his house. How childish. This guy would bring nothing but grief to the Rangers. Current players are classy, respectful yet passionate about their game. They don’t admonish others when they don’t win they take it upon themselves to work harder to make themselves better and stand up like men and take the blam themselves for mistakes they make.

As for Mac…get a life and make your comments relevant to the topic, not simply a political rant.

  • Jericho

Hey Ranger Rick—where are you coming from? Cuban is a douche—personally, politically, and in business. Cuban is not a viable candidate to own another franchise. I think Mac was in line–the guy obviously has a hard on for Cuban. So what?

  • JustSaying

I’d love to see Cuban with the Rangers…….he might not be your classic baseball owner but I would trade Hicks for him in a heart beat…..

  • samags

Mr. Hicks has always been a passionate Ranger owner and fan. He wanted nothing more than for our Rangers to be competitive. He bought in at the end of a good run (late 90s) and has suffered through lean years. He tried to “buy” quality players early on, but that failed. He then had to take the long road of rebuilding. It has been a long and painful journey for him and all of us. Unfortunately, it appears he will not be able to enjoy what he and his front office are about to harvest, a long run of very good teams. I actually will regret not having Tom Hicks at the helm of our Rangers in the coming years. Best wishes to him and his family.

  • Ryan s

Yep, I would hate to have an owner who trully cared about his teams success more than anything. I would hate to have an owner who has deeps pockets and is willing to go get the big names. Yep, that would suck to start having a winning culture here that expects championships and gets upset when their team only reaches the playoffs 9 straight years.

No, I will stick with our current owner and hopefully we can see if Matt Kata is available as a free agent because he is cheap and I love to watch cheap journeyman ball players and a 90 loss baseball team year after year!

  • JLS

“a nickle into the pocket of an anti-American like Cuban”

So you’re saying if Cuban buys the team you won’t come to any games right? Hmmmmm….

  • TD

    @Mac the UNABOMBER: SHUTTTT UP!

  • TD

I don’t think that we need a new owner or the old owner or whatever, it’s almost like the president…what exactly has changed/will change? We need to grow our own talent and pick and choose wisely in free agency to supplement said homegrown talent and that’s what we are doing now. Is it because Hick’s became some kind of baseball jesus overnight or because all of his other options and choices were terrible? Don’t know, don’t care. I am just glad we are doing it right NOW. Good luck to Mr. Hicks in buying the Mona Lisa and the remains of St. Francis. CIAO – TD

  • Bobby in Bryan

Hey MactheKnife–please don’t demean us on the political left by saying that Cuban is one of us! And by the way, I hope you are not saying that all those on the left are ‘un-American’.

  • Connor

    @mac

Nobody is interested in you rambling incoherently about things you can’t even begin to comprehend. Not only are your “political” views about this wrong, they are not wanted. Please leave us alone. Okay, back to baseball.

  • Fai Mao

I don’t think Mark Cuban has actually done much for the Mavericks.

They get into the NBA playoff every year but that isn’t that tough to do and get bumped in the first or second round.

Baseball is a different animal with the minors and developing a baseball team takes a different mentality.

Gee, I wonder if I should talk to my wife. If Tom Hicks is ready to sell we’ve got some cash. Maybe he’d sell to us.
