Road To Arlington: Rangers Minor League Report (6/5)

There was one rainout, but the pitching staffs of the other three minor league clubs combined to surrender just one run all night and that was in the 10th inning. Twenty-seven shutout innings.

Triple-A: @ Oklahoma City 6, Memphis 0

Starter RHP Luis Mendoza (2.43 ERA) worked an extremely efficient four innings, blanking the Redbirds on two hits and a walk with 32 of his 49 offerings going for strikes but RHP Bryan Corey (2-2; 5.87) earned the decision with three shutout innings of relief.

3B Emerson Frostad (263 / .364 / .404) went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk to drive in three and RF Greg Golson (.276 / .329 / .382) plated one in a 2-for-4 outing.

Double-A: Tulsa 1 @ Frisco 0 (10 Innings)

Frisco relievers Pedro Strop and Jumbo Diaz combined to walk four in the 10th and Strop added a wild pitch to give the Drillers an extra-innings victory.

The RoughRiders were overwhelmed by a Rockies pitching prospect for the second straight day as LHP Brandon Durden shut them down on two his over seven innings of work.

LHP Mike Ballard (4.88 ERA) enjoyed his best outing of the year, shutting the Drillers out on eight hits and no walks over eight innings, striking out six. LF-2B (and anything else you want him to do) Adam Fox (.247 / .294 / .387) went 2-for-3 with a walk and 2B-SS Marcus Lemon (.287 / .369 / .363) drew a pair of walks in four trips.

Advanced-A: Bakersfield 4 @ San Jose 0

Where did that come from?

The Blaze got a most welcome outstanding start from LHP Tim Murphy (3-5; 8.72) who had been torched in eight of his nine prior outings this year. The 2007 third rounder went six, shutting out the Cal League’s most dangerous lineup on three hits and no walks, fanning four in six innings.

1B Ian Gac (.231 / .289 / .440) belted two solo shots in four trips and LF Tim Murphy (.333 / .413 / .475) hit his fourth dinger of the year in a 2-for-4 outing to drive in two.

Mike,

Wasn’t Murphy drafted last year? Or do I have that mixed up. Also, based Beavan’s run here lately, what’s your best prediction on when we see him in Frisco? Mid-late July?Early August? 2010?
