Rangers 6th Rounder Ruben Sierra, Jr.
The Rangers appear to have made an outstanding selection in the sixth round. And don’t assume that just because he’s the son of a former Rangers great, he’s a gimmick pick rather than a legitimate prospect. Ruben Sierra, Jr. is blessed with phenomenal tools — tremendous speed, a plus-plus arm and exceptional bat speed with power to all fields.
He evidently has a tendency to pull off the ball at times which has given rise to speculation about his courage, but in terms of pure physical ability, this kid is clearly not your garden-variety sixth rounder.
please tell me julio franco jr is also in this year’s draft!
Man does he looks just like he dad or what. I loved Ruben Sierra growing up…I’m excited about the pick.
becca: no, but I think Julio’s grandson will be in next year’s draft
how old is Sierra?
I eagerly look forward to his career as a Salsa/Merenge singer just like his proud papa…
Good news, he looks very legit. And Dear Old Dad can tell him what not to do, or vice-versa.
what the hell does that have to do with courage? Getting pull happy has nothing to do with what’s inside this kid.
“He evidently has a tendency to pull off the ball at times…”
Sounds like a chip off the old block.
From Perfect Game:
Ruben Sierra Jr. is a 2009 OF/P with a 6’2”, 174 lb. frame from Isla Verde, PR who attends. Sierra is a super athletic baseball player with a lean athletic body. He is very good in the outfield and uses his blazing 6.38 speed to cover a lot of ground. He has a big arm in the outfield and easily reaches 93 mph from the outfield. At the plate he has good bat speed and has pop to all fields. He has easy power when centered and projects well with the bat. His game approach at the plate needs a few adjustments but he shows potential with all five tools. Definite draft follow for 2009. Good bloodlines.
looking forward to watching The Golden One, Jr.
Bean10 – apparently he steps out too far towards 1st base on his swings, from what I recall reading…so I assume they’re trying to say he bails out on the swing, is afraid of the inside pitch, and is thus subject to miss on anything outside
no it means he’s overly conscious of the inside pitch. He’s a young kid and wants to clear out his lower half and waffle anything middle in. Bad scouting report. Probably by a scout who couldn’t hit himself. He’s a kid, and needs to learn.
@becca: Julio Franco, Jr. would be about 30!
stock up on the steroids…he’ll be as big as his old man after a few bouts with the juice!
he is one of the best and people will se that in some years now he have to be in training more but texas add somebody who have some of the greatest potentials
