This just in from Rangers world PR headquarters, where John Blake sits behind his computer all day and spins things:
Arlington, Texas—Texas Rangers fans can register to win a pair of great prizes simply by helping to send second baseman Ian Kinsler to the 2009 Major League All-Star Game, which takes place a week from tonight in St. Louis.
Kinsler is one of the five players in contention for the 33rd and final spot on the American League team. That All-Star is being selected in on-line fan balloting in the 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote on texasrangers.com/allstar that continues until Thursday, July 9 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
To encourage fans to vote for Kinsler on-line, the Rangers are offering a pair of All-Star sweepstakes prizes:
–A suite for 20 at the Rangers game with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, July 21 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
–An All-Star package featuring autographed bats from Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, and Michael Young.
Fans will be automatically registered for both sweepstakes each of the first 25 times they vote for Kinsler in the All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote on the special page on the Rangers website. The suite sweepstakes has been active since Monday and the All-Star package sweepstakes will go on line at 3:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday afternoon.
THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT FANS MAY VOTE IN THE ALL-STAR GAME SPRINT FINAL VOTE. However, fans will be registered to win for the sweepstakes just the first 25 times they vote for Kinsler.
All rules for the two sweepstakes can be found here.
Fans can also vote for Kinsler on their mobile phones. Mobile voting is exclusive to Sprint, Nextel, and Boost subscribers. From these mobile phones, fans can text A3 to 1122 to cast votes for Kinsler. Standard rate messaging fees apply, and fans are asked to check with their carriers.
Kinsler joins 3B Chone Figgins of the Angels, 3B Brandon Inge of the Tigers, OF Adam Lind of the Blue Jays, and 1B Carlos Pena of the Rays as the candidates for the A.L.’s final roster spot. This marks the first time that the Rangers have ever had a player in the final All-Star roster spot on-line voting.
Kinsler hit his 20th homer of the season in Monday’s 9-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He is tied with Toronto’s Aaron Hill for the major league lead in homers by a second baseman. Kinsler, who also hit 20 homers in 2007, becomes just the 12th second baseman in American League history, with multiple seasons with 20+ homers.
I’m torn. I’d like to see Kins in the game but I would much rather him get some REST so that the fatigue that he is experiencing right now is not an issue in the beginning of the second half.
Let’s gert out the vote for Ian! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
I meant to say GET OUT THE VOTE!
puhleeeeeeeeeeeze let me win something. I can cram like a mf’er. When I was a kid they called me “Crammy.” Now that I’m a grandmother, my grandkids call me CramMaw. Seriously. I am a professional crammer. SO puhleeeeeeeeeeeze let me win.
I love the Rangers, and I love Ian. But there is no way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks that he should be on the all star team in 2009. He hasn’t hit the ball in 2 months. Vote for Figgins or Inge.
@Pigskinnie: I largely agree that the voting should be based on statistics *in an ideal world*. However, fans of the Usual Suspects (NYY, Boston, LAD, etc.) have proven time and again that they are equally as capable of voting the team rather than the deserving.
So, why should we give up a chance to get another Ranger in the All-Star game (thus raising our profile), when we’re already mostly behind the 8 ball anyway against fans of those other teams? If I could be guaranteed that EVERYONE would vote according to stats, then I would do so as well. However, that ain’t gonna happen.
Don’t care about stats – vote for Kinsler
Unfortunately, the sweepstakes’ fine print says, “open only to legal residents of the state of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas…”. Great for most of the folks here, but those of us who live in other parts need not apply, apparently.
