No, obviously nobody on the Rangers staff or front office knows a thing about pitching. Jeez. Most of the people who post on this site wanted CJ Wilson released two months ago, so clearly they know a LOT more.

I doubt if Holland would have been moved around so much, and perhaps not called up at all, if we had the rotation/staff that we began the season with. I think Nippert was the 9th or 10th guy to start a game this year. If Nippert had been healthy at the time, perhaps Holland is never called up. Ever consider that?

The move to the bullpen is, at least per above, for the next week until the all-star break. They will re-evaluate when they get to this point. They didn’t come out and say this was permanent. At least give them a chance to be flexible, even if most of you guys aren’t.

Hard for me to believe that Holland is going to the pen….to be replaced by Dustin Nippert! That doesn’t seem the best thing for Holland’s development, not does it give the team the best chance to win. 2 out of 3 of Holland’s last starts have been really good, and his 2 inning stint last night showed that he might be putting it together. I would leave him in the rotation. No time to get impatient now. He’s only had 7 or 8 big league starts.

I have posted this ad nauseam on the DMN blog and don’t understand why the media doesn’t question management about this. If this supposed “promising star” basically has a fastball an NO reliable secondary pitch, WHAT THE %*$# IS HE DOING IN THE MAJORS??!! WHY ISN’T HE AT AAA??!! I feel like Will Ferrell in Zoolander asking if he’s the only one that sees this, or if he’s taking crazy pills! Don’t you develop these pitches in the minors, then go to the majors ONLY when you can effectively pitch these pitches?

Holland came in and threw Strikes and for a 20 pitch investment went home with his 2nd win in a week. That’s good stuff…in a lot of ways.

nippert has one pitch, a FB. He I’d in no way a starter, Holland was rhrowing a good mix of pitches tonight and showed he was the person who would best give the rangers a chance to win.

Putting young arms in the bullpen has been going on for years. Steve Carlton had 13 appeareances as a rookie, Ron Guidry had 22 before grabbing a full-time slot, Andy Hawkins was back and forth his first three seasons, and of course Big Tex did his time in the pen his first two years as a met. Success is what they’re looking for. They’re getting it so far tonight.

The way this staff has treated Holland is a fcking crime. If he is a starter, let him be a starter. If he’s not, leave him in the pen all year. And if he needs more work, send him to AAA.

And why in the world we would not let Holland get more experience in the rotation when he wouldn’t do any worse than what Nippert did tonight. Holland can go out there and only give up 3 or 4 runs in 4 or 5 innings of work, and he actually means something to this club long term. Put Nippert in the long relief role, and keep Holland in the rotation.
