7:23: Chlorinated the pool this morning, so it’s fresh and clean and waiting for your arrival. Here is who the Rangers are sending out against Angels RHP John Lackey: 2B Ian Kinsler, 3B Michael Young (29-for-76, 2 HRs vs. Lackey), CF Josh Hamilton, DH Andruw Jones, 1B Hank Blalock (20-for-61, 2 HRs vs. Lackey), RF Marlon Byrd (6-for-19, 2 HRs vs. Lackey), LF David Murphy, C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, SS Elvis Andrus and pitching for the Rangers, making his 2009 debut … RHP Dustin Nippert.
7:37: Don’t forget about our statistical look at the first half of the season this year compared to 2008. I think the numbers are significant. Sweeping improvement in both pitching and defensive categorites. I spent a lot of time on all these charts today. I’m expecting heavy readership!
7:42: Also, today’s question is about Roy Halladay and trying to figure out what the Rangers might give up for him – if they had any financial flexibility, that is.
9:31: Some notes for your perusal. We lead with Derek Holland’s transfer back to the bullpen.
9:40: Been trading emails with Jon Daniels for the last few minutes. He doesn’t flat out say the Rangers won’t pursue a deal for Roy Halladay. In fact, I’m assuming they are doing their due diligence on the matter. But he’s also publicly said that he’s operating under the assumption that the Rangers won’t be adding payroll at the trade deadline and I see no way to take on Halladay without taking on payroll. And that’s not even factoring in the Rangers lack of motivation to weaken a very strong farm system.
One thought: What if you gave the Blue Jays your best three-man package (a 1B, a C and a pitcher not named Feliz/Holland/Perez, plus Hank Blalock and Vicente Padilla. Blue Jays could then flip Padilla and Blalock for lesser prospects in another deal in July and effectively recoup six or seven players for Halladay. Rangers would only have the 2010 financial burden to consider and the Blue Jays would effectively still be losing Halladay’s salary by the end of July.
From Rangers standpoint, if you add Halladay, but trade away one of the veteran pitchers, you diminish the effect Halladay has on the overall staff this year. And for all his inconsistent moments at the plate, I think the Rangers feel like they need Blalock’s presence in the lineup right now.
10:25: Chris Davis was averaging a strikeout every 2.26 at-bats before being sent down (BTW, commentors have reported Davis was 3-for-4 today with no strikeouts). Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who has struck out twice tonight, is averaging a K every 2.64 at-bats.
10:27: Juan Rivera vs. Rangers this year: .393 (11-for-28), 3 HRs, 10 RBIs. Since joining the Angels in 2005, he’s now a .313 hitter against the Rangers with 12 homers in 201 at-bats.
10:30: One time, just one time, I’d like to see a pitching coach respond this way when an umpire comes out to the mound to break up a meeting: “Do you mind, we’re trying to have a conversation!”
10:33: Even though it doesn’t involved the Rangers, here’s some more Roy Halladay chatter from around the web.
10:36: This is confusing and a little bit diconcerting. Derek Holland is entering the game. First, we were told Holland wouldn’t be available to pitch until Wednesday because he threw 92 pitches in a start Saturday. Well, here it is the fourth inning and Holland is in the game on two days of rest. This would typically be his throwing day and guys who pitch on Saturday this week would also be available to pitch an inning in the All-Star Game. But is this what the Rangers want to do with Holland. Just seems like an unneccessary risk to me.
10:48: And that, my friends, is why Andruw Jones remains a vital part of the team’s plans. A two-out, three-run homer to the game. He’s not going to hit for average and he’s not going to hit 50 homers like he once did, but he is still a legitimate home run threat.
10:54: Jason Jennings has gotten up now that score is tied. This makes me wonder: Were Rangers only going to Holland for one out (which is perfectly OK) or do they not have confidence in him to keep the score tied (which might be a different story)?
10:58: Hank Blalock scores on a wild pitch that doesn’t get behind catcher Mike Napoli? Very aggressive.
10:59: Jarrod Saltalamacchia lines single to right to score two runs after striking out in each of first two at-bats. Got to give Salty some credit. He really does study and try to make the most of his at-bats. Credit the important single to learning something from the first two at-bats.
11:03: I ask you this: Was the top of the 5th, the best inning of the year for the Rangers? They erased a 3-0 deficit, chased John Lackey, took a lead and here’s the part I like best: They had seven consecutive batters reach base with two outs.
11:05: I officially give up. I figured the Rangers were going to go to Jennings to start the fifth. He didn’t. Then I figured Holland was still in only to face the left-handed Bobby Abreu. He wasn’t. Then I thought Holland facing the right-handed Torii Hunter with a man on base was a disaster waiting to happen. It wasn’t; he got a ground ball double play.
11:14: Let me say this: There are a lot worse places to which to take a baseball trip than Angel Stadium. They do things really well here. Great sound system. Great in-game entertainment. Great weather. Now, you may not care for the Angels very much, but if you make a trip here when the Rangers are in town, how bad could that be. And I hear there is some kind of amusement park or something like that nearby.
11:15: And Holland is still out there. Only 11 pitches coming into inning, but still out there nonetheless.
11:29: Look, I think leaving Holland in there was just being greedy, but this inning has fallen apart over a dropped pop up, not due to any mismanagement of Holland.
11:33: Well, Jason Jennings picked a fine time to finally get a ball down in the zone. Got him the strikeout he needed to prevent the sixth inning from becoming complete disaster.
11:50: Can 343 fall tonight? Got two innings to go and we are closing in on another 300-comment game. Is it in you?
11:54: If the Rangers win this game, they will be very foruntate. Bad outing by the starter. Critical error. Loading the bases in both the Angels sixth and seventh. You can’t make mistakes like that against a contending team.
11:56: Angels have left six men stranded over the last two innings.
12:01: How about that job of hitting by Elvis Andrus? Now, can the guy who leads the Rangers in fly ball outs drive a fly ball to the outfield?
12:08: Go figure. You need Kinsler to hit the ball in the air, something he’s done to the extreme this season and what does he do? He hits it on the ground. For a double. Confounding.
12:18: Vlad Guerrero left with a strained muscle behind left knee. Me thinks he won’t be playing tomorrow and probably not for a while.
12:22: They are playing Men at Work: “Land Down Under.” I like it. Sorry, I graduated H.S. in 1983. Brings back memories of all the vegemite sandwiches we used to eat.
12:35: It will make me nervous if Frank Francisco faces Juan Rivera in a key situation in the pennant race. Rivera now has two ninth-inning homers off Francisco in the last 10 days. … Now, on to the post-game show.
Little bit of a gut check, having your stopper blown out last night and a spot starter tonight.
@evan: if possible, this thing is loading even more slowly tonight.
Lets go Rangers. Davis is 3 of 4 with a double and triple in AAA.
Holland to the pen officially. I’m disappointed and losing faith in management fast.
@Scooper and others: Yes, aware that we are loading slowly. I’m told it has something to do with the weather feed that is on the main D page. Our folks are aware of it and have been trying to work it out.
My apologies. Hope you will bear with us.
GO RANGERS!
The Holland move seems more of an endorsement, at least temporarily, of Hunter than an indictment of Holland.
Well, cut the weather feed out. It is hot and we know it. Rains every few weeks in the summer time. Basically,
Hang a rock on a string.
1. If it is wet,,,it is raining.
2. If it is dry and hot… the sun is shining, and it is summer
3. If it is white and cold…it is snowing, and it is winter
4. if it is moving on the end of the string…the wind is blowing and
it could be stormy.
Way too slow…. not expecting many comments tonight.
IMO Holland would be better off pitching in AAA every 5th day. Bring up Murray or Hinkley for the loogy.
@Rangers Fan: They may also be looking for a better left hand option than eddie out of the pen. If Hunter is reliable starter than it gives them that option.
Line for Chris Davis tonight at OKC:
3/4, 2R, 1 2B, 1 3B
@Rangers Fan: Really? Ugh. He needs to be in the rotation.
@Evan- loved the stat analysis.
Holiday stuff, I thought , was a waste of time…and, perhaps, counter to the build for 2010 philosophy, depending on who they’d have to give up. My fear, all year long, has been that they’d be contending in July and do another dumb Eaton/May move.
@fox [cough, cough] that’s what I get for not reloading the page before finally posting…
I don’t really care if he pitches every day here or in OKC but he needs to be pitching every 5th day…
On Davis…I’ve been following gamecast and he’s a HR away from the cycle..Smoak is struggling it seems. No hits last night or tonight.
Have no fear, NIPPERT is here.
I would also like to see him pitching every 5 days to learn to become the stud that he will be one day but it seems that the Rangers are preferring to put their superstuds (Hollan and Feliz) in a relief roll early in their big league career. I wonder how much say Nolan has in this and if this is a method that he supports. Maybe they feel that it forces them to learn to pitch in pressure situations and how to get out of them.
@Fred,
Think Evan is just trying to stir up a conversation… it was mentioned early today that Halladay could go to the Rangers and I think the quote was “rich prospects, no money”.
The irony of all this is if Hicks had the money many teams are “sellers” and would want to get out of salaries and would not demand much in prospects. The irony, or as Col. Kurtz would said “The Horror… the horror”.
CD comeplete line: 3/4 and a walk (which came after getting down 0-2).
Smoak went 0/5 and is hitting .077
The part where they seem to screw up is they say he needs to work on his secondary pitches. Then say he will be better in the pen cause he won’t need secondary pitches as much. SO WHENS HE SUPPOSED TO LEARN?????????
@Rangers Fan: I was hoping for a home run to complete the cycle but then after coming back to walk from an 0 – 2 count I changed my mind. For CD that was a way better result.
I think the Rangers have the best farm in all of baseball. It’s stacked. But the question is if this org. knows how to develop them. That is something I have very little confidence in.
@DC: Good question
@Fox- I completely agree. We know he has power. He doesn’t need to show us that.
Nippert looks pretty good.
The Rangers are at an interesting point where the talent is almost but not quite MLB ready and the veteran talent is lacking. They dont have the luxury of being the Red Sox where because of the talent at the ML you can almost wait until a prospect is “more than ready”. So the question is do they bring these guys up before they are a finished product or keep sending out the vets like Eddie.
Another fly ball for Kins. How many in a row is that?
This is why i was dreading the rangers playing so well this year.. Now we are stuck with HB, AJ and Byrd playing everyday.Screw the development of the young guys yet they don’t plan on having any of the 3 next year. Stupidity.
I’m happy to hear that about Davis. I hope it is a good sign of things to come.
The most important part of Davis’ night was 0 strikeouts.
We might as well trade the kids, they are going to be abused because the manager does not want to play them.
We have an owner that wants to build from within.
we have a president that wants to build from within.
we have a gm that wants to build from within.
we have a manager that doesnt want to play the kids,
what part doesnt fit?
Nice ab there AJ….
In other OKC news…Feliz pitched the 9th with 14 pitches (11 strikes and 3 balls) 2 strikeouts and gave up a double.
Hopefully AJ is on a short leash now that he is playing everyday. He can show Waskington that he does not need to be in there. Looks like Josh is back and we need someone to knock him in. He needs to be sent to the far edges of the bench.
Feliz pitches the 9th and strikes out the side.
Also, Feliz came on to strike out the side in the top of the 9th @ OKC throwing 14 pitches, 11 for strikes.
Well I for one am against child abuse.
Nevermind, I see its already been covered!
Hopefully Kins was watching. Thats how a leadoff hitter hits the ball.
Fox & DC have raised the exact question I was trying to address last night. I say you don’t make a simple statement of “sit the vets and play the youth”. You have to analyze each situation individually.
For example: Andruw Jones is a veteran who is giving you NOTHING, so you sit him and let Cruz DH tonight. So here is an example of sitting the vet to get the youngster more playing time.
On the other side you have Chris Davis and Hank Blalock. Davis was obviously struggling and needed to work things out. Therefore, you send him down to work on things (which look good tonight) and let Blalock take his place. Obviously, Blalock doesn’t fit into long term plans, but for now he is the best option (Smoak not ready).
I hope I’ve made myself a little more clear tonight.
@All: Let’s be clear that trading for Roy Halladay would in no way be a dumb trade. True ace-caliber pitchers are rare in baseball. You have the chance to grab a guy like that, who would also sit at the front of your rotation in 2010 and its not something you can easily walk away from. Yes, the Rangers may have an ace somewhere in their system, but chances are they don’t. With the playoffs on the line, there is a real difference-maker now available.
The problem is not that Halladay isn’t worth the package. The problem is the Rangers simply don’t appear to have the finances to afford Halladay.
In years past, they’ve talked of payroll flexibility, but either lacked the results or minor league talent to acquire a difference maker. This year, they have both the results and the inventory of talent; they simply can’t afford to pay the difference-maker.
Here is baseball americas list of top 10 MLB call ups in the second half. I copied only the rangers:
1. Neftali Feliz, RHP, Rangers
The hard-throwing Feliz entered the year as the Rangers’ top prospect and best arm. He got off to a tough start in the Triple-A Oklahoma City rotation, with 25 walks in his first 38 1/3 innings. But the Dominican, acquired from the Braves in the blockbuster Mark Teixeira trade in 2007, has adjusted since a move to the bullpen. He has just three walks in his last 29 innings and still hits 98 mph regularly, with easy velocity that should be able to help Texas’ bullpen down the stretch.
7. Justin Smoak, 1B, Rangers
Texas just sent down Chris Davis due to his .202 average and 114 strikeouts in 258 at-bats. As polished a hitter as Smoak — the 11th overall pick in 2008 — is, he can’t match Davis’ explosive power. But Wieters’ former high school teammate does have plenty of power of his own, from both sides of the plate, and is a better hitter, with a more patient approach and better defensive skills at first. Smoak is coming off an oblique strain and has just joined Feliz at Oklahoma City. He’ll need to prove he can handle Triple-A pitching, but if he does he could force his way into the Rangers’ lineup.
@PTRF- haha we were saying the same thing last night and didn’t know it.
I would much rather see cruz in there instead of jones.
Jones would have to ge on a huge tear to raise his trade value and he has shown no signs of that.
Guys – I’ll repeat what I said last night re/Wash playing kids. And remember, I am the biggest Holland fan in this city and I venture the only one wearing a Holland Jersey right now, so yes, I’m bummed. BUT, the pitcher taking Holland’s spot in the rotation is a rookie (tommy hunter), unless you figure he’s taking harrison’s spot. In which case its Nippert (who is also young). so, I don’t think its a refusal to play the young kids. We have a rookie and a second year guy in the rotation (2 once Harry gets back). We have a rookie starting at ss. Murphy and Salty are in the 2nd full seasons (really, the first one that salty started in the bigs). The backup cather is in his 1st full year. the RF has less than 2 yrs experience.
So let’s be a litte fair here. They want to develop pitchers but they are trying to balance the fact that they are IN FIRST PLACE. They can’t ignore that. If they think Hunter/Nippert gives them a better chance to win WHILE THEY ARE TIED FOR FIRST, they should go that route.
I hate seeing Blalock and Jones getting ABs (particularly Jones), but Davis had to go down.
But again, I’m bummed Holland won’t be starting and I would suggest sending him to OKC to go every 5th day.
@Rangers Fan: I thought that might have been the case, I just couldn’t get it out coherently.
Jones should not be in there. I have a bad feeling though that it is going to take a really bad streak on his part to get Washington to agree.
As disappointing as it is that Ian is pooping up all the time. Yeah, I typed that right. I wonder how many of those poopups have been to the left side of the field? Kins not using the whole field=no playoffs.
@JackDaddy: I think Wash has shown he will play young players. IE: CD all year I would be totally fine if they said we want Holland to go down and work on his pitches and pitch every 5th day. But what they are doing isn’t very productive in my opinion.
Jack,Why do you take holland who is a starter and move him to the pen and replace him in the rotation with a guy that is viewed as a long reliever?
aflac trivia Q? Nolan Ryan?
I don’t know the answer but I will guess Chili Davis.
@Ryans Dad: I couldn’t agree more. He wants to pull everything, which exacerbates (sp?) the problem. He even does his little hip twitch when he’s getting set in the box like he’s practicing opening up to pull. Drives me nuts.
He even admitted, when someone asked him about a ball he hit to right field, that it was a mistake. Said he tries to pull everything.
@obagain – I wouldn’t. I would leave Holland in the pen. I think they are making a mistake. Was just pointing out that you can’t say they refuse to play the kids out of stubborness.
They clearly think Holland only has command of his FB and is getting killed. I disagree. I don’t see him getting killed, but rather competing and learning and improving. I don’t see him costing games. But that’s why I get paid jack squat to watch the games on from my study and talk to you dudes on teh internet, rather than get paid by the team!!
@rangers fan. agree.
Jack Daddy thats what i was saying send Holland to OKC and let him work on the secondary pitches if thats all he needs to be what everyone thinks he will be.
Does anyone else agree that Byrd’s swing lacks lower body? I contend that his power #’s could be higher………..
60% of called 3rd strikes end it outs EVERY time.
the one thing andruw jones adds is power, which this offense doesn’t need. i sound like a broken record. there is a fascination there that I don’t quite get. My sense is that if we were cut, you wouldn’t see 5 teams try to sign him.
Darn, we’d be such great front office people!
@B-A-S: yes, have always wondered how he gets production. But it seems to work for him.
sorry – had a typo above meant I would leave holland in rotation, not pen. I assume the rest of my piece made that clear, but just in case.
We will see how he is used in the pen, my bet would be they put him in a bad situation, bases loaded with no out, that seems to be the mo when he was in the pen earlier.
If the rangers announce he can only command the fastball he is in trouble, what do you think the hitters will be sitting on?
How will he learn those seconday pitches when they will ask him to throw mostly FB from the pen?
@Rangers Fan: we couldn’t do any worse than john hart did.
Jack Daddy i bet unless someone got injured no one would sign AJ.
salty’s swing from the left side looks just like Hank’s. I swear his swing wasn’t that hard when we got him.
I have never seen a collection of hitters swing the bat as hard, in all counts, like these guys do. to end with that follow through with 2 strikes — should never happen
@Evan: Wouldn’t you agree that that 1b would have to be Smoak? I don’t think Davis would get that done.
Another observation. Does Kinsler look like he’s putting on weight?
What are the odds that if Juan Rivera gets on he will make a baserunning mistake?
Never mind.
Not to mention that if we were to trade Davis and Blalock we would be forced to bring Smoak up and he doesn’t appear to be ready.
Man, Rivera is fast becoming my mortal enemy
@part time ranger fan – i was the biggest Hart hater in the world while he was here. The moves he made set this franchise back 5 years (and you might argue cost Hicks ownership). Its all very puzzling, because he made great moves in Cle and when you listen to him on ESPN, he really knows his stuff. Its almost as if he bet somebody that he could build still build a playoff time, even while doing crazy #### and spending his entire time on the golf course. It doesn’t add up. Listen to him sometime – you’ll come away impressed and really liking the guy.
I love the fact that 30 people lost their careers with the Rangers last month and they collectively make less than what Hicks is still paying Hart! He’s a genius.
RF, smoak needs to hit AAA pitching before we decide he is the answer up here.
Davis is building confidence and if he hit like he did in the first 2 games for a couple of weeks you could see davis, feliz and moscoso all come up about the same time.
@Jack Daddy: I agree about Salty’s swing. He has been the one Ranger that I tried to not be critical about his hitting. He has made major strides on the def side of his game and I know most of his effort is going in that direction. Now next year I may start being more critical.
Evan i do that deal as long as the catcher is not Teagarden.
Ob, if they get those three up after the break, who goes down/away?
@Jack Daddy: “Its almost as if he bet somebody…” That’s funny, and maybe the only explanation. It was crazy what he did here after what he had built in Cleveland.
@evan,
meant to ask you this yesterday – is JD on this road trip? When he doesn’t travel, where does he watch the game? At home? At the office? At Chilis?
ryan’s dad.
guardado is released.
Mathis is sent down.
Jones or hank get traded.
I like that and agree with that assertation.
good luck trading jones. you couldn’t get a bag of balls for him.
PTRF, I doubt it would be jones but we traded eddie last year so anything is possible.
hi everyone. sorry i’m late and wasn’t here last night. not that i’m sure you all cared, but my softball team had our playoffs and won both! so the standings for next week are teams placed 1,3,4 and us which = 8th! hooray! we’re still celebrating
and all i have to add right now is that west coast starts mess up my sleeping time. but i fight through it. and nippert looks good. but the angels are still ranger killers.
and i don’t like the move of holland, the dutch oven, to the bull pen.
Hmm, the guy that forced holland out of the pen cant get to the 5th inning, this is working out great.
oh, and i still think with moving murf to 1st means they’re ready to get rid of hank. which = ok with me.
Adios MOFO.
If you can bring in Doc Halladay for beavan, davis and teagarden/salty (while shedding padilla and blalock’s salary), you absolutely do it.
You just drafted Davis (the 3B mendonca), beavan is tommy hunter and you have catching depth (and neither is an all star caliber player).
@obagain- I agree. Smoak looks nowhere near ready to come up. I was referring to what Evan said at the top about possibly including a 1b. c, blalock, other in a trade. And I was against trading Davis and Blalock bc that forces you into playing Smoak which is not good.
Becca, where do you play ball?
Holland started saturday ? Isn’t today a little early to be pitching again?
glencoe park. off greenville and mockingbird. we aren’t good. which is why it’s fun we won. i made a few base running errors and now my team calls me ian.
Nice to Davis get off to a good start at OKc–ad make consistent contact.
lackey’s not burning this 3-0 lead. ball game
I don’t think Nippert pitched poorly, really. He showed some good things.
I am so confused….
Holland comes in after 3 and 2/3….to relieve Dustin NiPPERT! <——who??
Jones is starting at DH, while CRUZ is on the bench.
And we can’t score again!
@dc: i guess if he’s now a pen guy, they’re going to make him get used to it. which i would think might mess up his arm. but as i am not a pitcher or pitching coach, what do i know.
@DC: it’s probably his day to throw anyway. he can come in for a few pitches.
I have played there a couple of times.
If you want to test a new bat LMK, I am makeing a composite bat and need some ladies to try it out.
btw, its somewhat a relief to understand why Max hasn’t been hitting. Now let’s get the wrist healthy.
@rangers fan: i don’t think it was a horrible start either. how long has it been since he’s started? i mean, to be fair, he did better than millwood did facing the same line up
I’ve been wondering when folks would catch on that Saly looks a lot like Davis when he flails. He’s a liability against LHP, but fans a lot from the other side, too. Uncharacteristic (this year) brain lapse in the 2nd, when looking at the runner.
@Rangers Fan: I think the parts in any deal are all exchangeable, depending on who the other parts are. If you don’t want to include Smoak, maybe you up the quality of another prospect and so forth.
@Jack Daddy: Jon Daniels is on the trip and at The Ballpark. When he doesn’t travel, he watches from home, in between answering stupid emails from me.
PTRF, throwing a BP session is way different than pitching in a game.
Dont understand the pitching situation here.
horrible bunt. elvis should be practicing every day and dropping 2-3 down a week.
@obgain: i am also terrible at batting. might not be the girl to try out a fancy bat. i use the same one i used in high school. wasn’t great then either.
but being down 3 in the 5th isn’t horrible. i have faith! they can beat these stinking angels.
Hmmm, could Kinsler be checking out this blog in between innings?
@obagain: it is not unusual for teams to do this, though I don’t think he’ll go very long.
Nope
Evan, that is the confusing part of Wash’s treatment of the pen. It is all over the place and it does not follow any pattern. Mathis should of been used earlier last night so Grilli can be in the game right now.
the nice thing about Kinsler batting .250 is that he only needs to go 1-4 to maintain his avg.
btw, he is a great example of why you can’t solely look at stats and not watch the games. People will point to his very low BABiP and say he’s been unlucky and his avg will climb. Really? His hit balls coudn’t be weaker or easier. And no, I don’t want to know what his line drive rate his. Jeez, don’t ever mention those words to me again. Makes my brain hurt and wish for football season.
every game there’s at least once i say ‘thank god michael young is on this team’. his consistancy just rocks my balls.
Ian said he was tired, a strange admission from a player.
Why is he still at the top of the order if he is tired enough to admit it to the media?
I predict Jones k’s.
tie game!!!!
oh my…Andruw Jones…
Still want AJ gone.
And now there’s nobody to drive these two guys home in the middle of the lineup.
baseball is fun.
still don’t like him
I WILL OFFICIALLY SHUT UP NOW!
@Fred: Salty does not look good hitting but he will get a longer leash because he is a catcher as opposed to a 1B. Great things hitting is not expected.
I guess thats why AJ is in there.
Man, where was this Hammy in April? Really makes me think that April was ruined by the silly notion to abandon the “bounce” (thanks hitting coach) and May he was just hurt (he did have a nice week between DL stints).
I told you Jones didn’t serve any purpose here (though I did say that all he does is hit HRs). Also told you that Lackey wouldn’t blow the 3-0 lead. I suck.
@dc: me too
I absolutely love being wrong.
As I realize I have been watching the game :40 behind everyone else.
@becca – quote of year.
ha and lols @ ryans dad. i believe i was calling for hanks head in may. so yeah, it’s ok to be wrong. makes the baseball even more fun
@ryan’s dad – have done that numerous times this year. but i’m not a smart person
Looks like lackey has run out of gas.
I still don’t want us relying on Jones and I want Davis back up here as soon as he works his hitting out. Regardless of what Blalock does.
Hey, if my misplaced sarcasm creates moments like that, I’ll gladly play along.
murphy would definitely have gotten a hit here if he hadn’t sat last night and ruined his rhythem
for real though, if MY hadn’t be able to some how stay alive, next inning i truly belive would have been jones and hank starting out with two strike outs. that guy has something in him that just just doesn’t translate to stats.
Lackey doesnt want to throw a pitch here,
everyone knows that the HR from AJ means more AJ, right?
nobody has tougher ABs than Murphy on this team.
PTRF, yea that bought him 2-3 more 0-4 nights.
Great AB Murph. Salt lay off the curve.
that was one ###%@@%!!! AB by murph.
Salty needs to slow down his swing.
@jack daddy; and i’m ok with that. he’s become a force at the plate. he seems like one of the smarter batters on the team. and i like it! even if he is from baylor
Jack, wish we had 3-4 more just like murphy.
I have no confidence in Salty right now.
So he lays off the hanger.
Question for the hockey Ranger fan: Would you agree MY is to the Rangers what Modano was/sorta is to the Stars. Put up all-star numbers every year, maybe not MVP numbers, but to his team what he plays with every night doesn’t show up in the box score but simply makes the team go and elevates everyone’s game around him so much better.
Nice read by hank to score there, that ball was not that far away.
salty has to feel a lot of pressure now that davis is gone. all the focus was on davis while he was here and not too many folks talked about salty’s batting. now we kinda have to face it. i think now would be a good time to give teagarden some more starts.
but of course i’m not asked.
and then BAM he hits a double!
I think I’m on to something here.
wow. my baseball pants are getting tight.
HELL YEAH!
Wow, 3 down to 3 up in 1 inning, you think the angel fans are screaming for the manager to yank lackey 3 batters ago?
Salty I always had the faith
WOW!!!!!!!!!
ryans dad: please say something not encouraging about every rangers batter as they come up.
thank you.
@obagain: You’re right. That was outstanding baserunning by Hank. Too many guys don’t get a big enough secondary lead and don’t read that play quick enough. Great job.
And big hit from Salty. Rangers showing some moxy.
Agreed on Murph. The critism he gets on some boards confuses me. the guys is a ballplayer.
@rangers fan – hockey sucks balls.
I should get a radio talk show NOW. Only the best radio hosts could be so wrong about so many things in such a short amount of time.
criticism
Now we are into the Angels bullpen. I like our chances of bullpen vs bullpen.
That was an incredible 2 out rally.
really great at bat by Salty
Murphy = Rusty batting wise not defense.
11:03: I ask you this: Was the top of the 5th, the best inning of the year for the Rangers? They erased a 3-0 deficit, chased John Lackey, took a lead and here’s the part I like best: They had seven consecutive batters reach base with two outs.
@Jack Daddy- I don’t know how anyone could say that. Hockey is a great sport. It has passion you rarely see in any other sport, skill that is inconceivable, and the toughest athletes, in my opinion. Hockey and baseball are 1a and…1a in my book.
I love the way Tag says every 3B has a gun. He’s right. Because every 3B does have a gun. But I like pooh pooh though. He’s awesome. But he did make a good point, Figgins can toss it. Too bad Beltre is hurt. Guaranteed we would have gotten at least 3 “Beltre’s got a gun”. And he does.
I’m not even drinking tonight.
Don’t care. This isn’t hockey season and I don’t speak French.
Evan, I would have to think but so far with what is on the line I would say that was the best inning.
Evan i can’t think of a better one.
@evan – tied for the best inning with the 9th against the Ms in the King Felix start (the Davis walkoff). Still get goosebumps (of course, I was on the 8th row behind the dugout).
Holland’s yakker to start off Vlad teh Impaler was filty.
@EVAN: YES!
Nice shut down inning there, maybe this kid can pitch.;)
@Ryan’s Dad: my intention was not to talk stick and puck but to call Young the Modano of the Rangers. Which I think he is. He’s grown up a Ranger, been an all-star and the heart and soul of the team. I only hope he will be rewarded the way Modano was in ’99.
@Evan: Best inning of the year? During the pitching change, I told my wife that that was the best inning of the year. Then I took the dog outside. Then I came into my office and took the laptop off standby. Then I saw your question.
So I just think that… yeah.
well, we were behind and came back. but the 6th inning(?) last wednesday was pretty fun too. rangers are playing fun baseball in july. screw june. who even needs that month anyways?
I don’t know if it was the best inning of the year, but it sure felt like the longest.
Nice balance Ian
I’ll say it again the best thing for Kinsler is to not make the allstar team.
@rangers fan: i like the analogy. modano is and was the face of the stars. michael young is surely the face of the organization now. he’s the lead it seems in so much more than what he does on the field.
@Rangers Dad: I think are right about MY. I hear some negativity towards him and I dont always understand it. He is a stand up guy, a professional hitter and is willing to do what the Rangers need him to do to help the team. I hope he is rewarded like Modano, that will be great for everyone.
@Josh Lewin: because he probably did not get pitches to hit in AAA.
becca i kinda do since i was born in june.
The way this team is treating Holland is making me sick. Stop jerking this kid around. He deserves to be in the rotation more than freakin’ Dustin Nippert does. They’re already planning on brining Feliz up to the ‘pen sometime soon, you don’t need both of them sitting out there not getting the work they need.
@rangers fan – just busting your balls. I enjoy playoff hockey (i suppose). but don’t care for either basketball or hockey regular seasons. complete waste of time.
I love football, but I lust after baseball.
My second favorite qoute of all time was by tracy ringolsby (and i’m paraphrasing) when he said that he would rather watch a spring training baseball game between 2 bad teams than the super bowl.
My favorite quote of all time, by the ways, is this:
“Gambling’s not illegal, it’s frowned upon, like… masturbating on an airplane.”
“I’m pretty sure that’s illegal too.”
“Yeah, maybe after 9/11, where everybody got so sensitive. Thanks a lot, Bin Laden!”
@dc: fine. i guess june serves some purpose. july, being my birthday month, has been more fun for the rangers though. maybe before next season we can rock/paper/scissors it to see who gets the better month for the 2010 season. deal?
@Jack Daddy: The Hangover is great.
Ok, I now have a problem with Holland still being in the game. 1.1 innings on a “throw day” is one thing. Pushing him another inning is another.
Also it looks like Holland is using all his pitches
Think holland is trying to make a statement here?
Holland is a beast. You all need a 45 jersey. He’ll be a top 10 pitcher in bb in 4 years.
wonderkid is looking great. again, though, can’t figure out why he’s still out there.
Salty has to turn around on that play.
you have to be kidding me?
@DC: Couldn’t agree more about Kinsler. He was other-world in spring training, and maybe started thinking about how he could have won the MVP last year. He just totally lost track of what brought him to the dance.
Now I will get on Salty for bad D. Need to pick up your pitcher.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Please Welcome Salty to a lifetime of seeing himself on Baseball’s Most Embarrassing Moments.
Fire Washington now. That’s it. I’ve had it. I’ve defended him all year to this week but I’m done. Take out Holland who is absolutely rolling and bring in Jennings who is not good with runners on. Here comes trouble.
becca deal
He only threw 20 pitches. I guess that’s not that bad.
A Ranger pitcher just threw 19 pitches and only two were “called” Balls. I have entered a parallel universe somehow and don’t want to go home.
@fox – loved it. seen it twice and going again Thursday.
Yes, Jennings stinks
See, he can’t even throw a strike.
@Rangers Fan: I’m sure the only reason he took Holland out is because he was on a very strict pitch count.
i think it was cj that said jennings was the glue of the bullpen. yeah, when he inherits the runs, bad new bears. but i can’t say i mind him and/or his hips at all.
oh. and then we have a HB. LONG LIVE PADILLA!
I think pulling Holland was more of just plain ole Washington lunacy. This could get real ugly.
I’d have rather brought O’Day in if anyone. But I think it was a bad move and it’s showing.
That wash is a genious.
@evan – this is shaping up to be one of the WORST innings of the year.
I think Wash is one of, if not the dumbest manager in baseball, but you had to get Holland out of there. He’s on two days rest.
I’m sure Wash just wanted him to get out of the 4th, but he did it so quick he left him for the 5th. He got through that so quick he left him for the 6th, but he wasn’t going to let him go more than 20 pitches.
Having said all of that, it’s obvious that Jennings wasn’t the right choice.
Hope Salty is enjoying this extra time squatting behind the plate.
Salty salty salty……. if only he caught that.
Holland was dominating, although I realize he was on short rest, but let him finish the inning.
This is looking more like a Rangers game all the time.
NEWS FLASH. GET HIM OUT OF THERE!
What a stupid move by Washington…
holy mccrap. they HAVE to get out of this inning. and i mean before the angels score 4 runs.
This is plain sickening. Jennings does this nearly every time and still he gets brought in.
my baseball pants just go real sad.
Really?
I can’t believe that Wash took Holland out. Not with the way he was pitching. Go with the hot hand.
Please shoot me.
got, not go
Argghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
f!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This might be the season.
Wash can’t be blamed for taking out Holland, but absolutely can be blamed for putting in Jennings. He’s an idiot.
You had a pitcher throwing strikes and wind up with a guy who can’t. Way to go Wash.
Come on, how do you hit a batter and walk the next two and still pitch to the next guy?
please kill me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please
Get abreu out
Why is JJ still even in the game?
Because Washington has no idea what he’s doing.
You just couldn’t leave Holland in any longer. What if the next guy battles with a 10+ pitch at bat. Then you’re risking injury to his arm. You had to get Holland out of there.
I usually do not comment, just enjoy the comments of all of you, however why the heck did WAAAASH remove DH, who was pitching great and replace with Jennings, who just walked in a run. I am also sick and tired of TAG and others making excuses for SAAALTY. Another very bad move by the manager.
so anyone put in their call in the homerun pull for how many batters would get walked in by rangers pitchers? sheesh. i hate to see that. only thing that would make it worse would be a balk call. then i’d have to rip up and burn my baseball pants.
ha. best part about this, is that the rangers are still winning and i’m STILL very distraught!
Bringing in Jennings is a judgment call. Leaving him in after he hits a batter is questionable, staying with him for the single biggest Ranger killer after a walk is negligent. Maybe he does need to go.
Why is the run that is charged to Holland an earned run?
I guess when you are Julio Borbon and you get sent down, it actually means you sit in Scott Boras’ luxury box with matching pink shirt and sunglasses (pink ones, no less). For all those who didn’t know, that is him behind home plate.
and i meant walked in runs. i forget to type words that are in my head sometimes. hey, i’m not perfect.
this is a very simple game you throw the ball you catch the ball and you hit the ball someimes I think this team needs to reminede how simple it is
@Doug: it shouldn’t be.
Don’t care, pathetic performance. Pathetic. But it could’ve been worse. The fact that the they DIDN’T blow it is a sign this team isn’t your garden-variety Rangers.
It is earned? He reached on an error for what should have been the 3rd out.
For those who say that Holland couldn’t go past 20 pitches therefore Wash had to take him out….today would be his normal side session and he would be throwing 45 pitches in the bullpen. Finishing the inning would be nothing.
@Evan: What happened to posting comments in the comment section? I always forget to look up there! And I would have liked to see Holland in there but even if you take him out. Why bring in Jennings who is not good with runners on? That’s where he should take the blame.
@obagain – it is showing as earned in the box score
good point, golden one.
i hope this means more starts for teagarden. salty shouldn’t just assume that he has the spot. not with flubs like he made. luckily it didn’t end in a blood bath.
Yeah, that’s an unearned run.
@All: Everybody recovered from that little bit of turbulence?
@Doug: Remember, he threw 28 warmup pitches (14 when he came in, 7 before the 5th inning, and 7 before the 6th inning) plus the warmup pitches he threw in the bullpen before he came in. That adds up to more than the 45 he would have thrown.
@even: belly kinda hurts. could have been the tacos from earlier though.
They just changed it to unearned
@Rangers Fan: I try to put some comments in the comments section. I make things too hard, I know. I’ll try to do better.
I’m not. Is Jennings really a better option than Feliz???
wow the venom. guys, all I’ll say is this: the name of the back of the jersey with the #28 says “Jennings”, not “Washington”. Hear what I’m saying? #21 says “Saltalamacchia”. not “Washington”.
It’s unearned on GameDay.
is the angels pitcher named palmer? makes me think of dean palmer. he was definately one of my favorite rangers.
I think if the Rangers lead holds, Holland gets the W because “He was effective.” And they took the lead while he was the Pitcher of record.
@Doug: I just checked MLB.com and it shows as unearned.
Sometimes scorers throw up stats in the heat of the moment and then come back and update them later.
It will not be an earned run, it might show it but box scores lie all the time.
I showed one last night that went
foul, ball, foul swinging strike, swinging strike, foul ball, ground out.
@All: My biggest problem with the handling of the pitching was that the Rangers tried to get greedy and squeeze an extra inning out of Holland because of his low pitch count.
That said, that’s not what caused the problem. The problem was caused by Salty dropping a pop-up, something he’s very good at doing.
And, though I think Jennings shouldn’t enter with runners on base, Washington has brought him in several times lately with men on base and he’s worked through without allowing an inherited runner.
Bottom line: Rangers never make anything easier.
What? Rangers without turbulence is the same as saying the only thing separating the north pole and Oklahoma is a bare wire fence. It is a given.
@Evan- well could they at least pay for all of our blood pressure medicine then? oh wait..they don’t have any money.
“For those who say that Holland couldn’t go past 20 pitches therefore Wash had to take him out….today would be his normal side session and he would be throwing 45 pitches in the bullpen. Finishing the inning would be nothing.”
That’s exactly right –claiming that he will “ruin his arm” throwing-4-8 more pitches is absolutely ridiculous…good grief
@Kyle: What if the batter had a 10-15 pitch at bat. And what if he gets a hit. Then what.
Also, as I mentioned above don’t forget about all of the warmup pitches in the bullpen and between innings. It all adds up.
Not sure which I liked less: Salty’s inattentive error or Wash’s move, with a bunch of lefties coming up after the RH batter.
Kyle, throwing 45 pitches on the side and throwing 20 pitches in a game are very different, plus how many did he throw to warm up?
Was he able to stretch properly before getting into the game?
Evan, did you mean that Salty was good at dropping pop ups, or good at catching pop ups?
stinking angels. why does their entire line up have to be good at the batting? punks.
So cj will be expected to get 4 outs tonight.
Oh dear…I’m nervous.
@Ryans Dad: Meant he’s good at catching them. Let me make that clear. I think that drop was an aberration.
Evan, why doesn’t the pitching coach decide on pitching changes?
bad luck there (seamheads). 77.6% of time that’s dp grounder to MY. Gonna ask CJ to get 5 outs tonight?
All of this started because your starter could give you 5 (much less 6). And why is he starting sunday over Derek?
Ok, but for a major leaguer, saying he’s good at catching pop ups is like saying he’s good at tying his shoes. Alas, pop ups do fall from time to time.
11:50: Can 343 fall tonight? Got two innings to go and we are closing in on another 300-comment game. Is it in you?
@Evan – I can’t handle terrible decisions like that by Wash all season…my blood pressure is going to go crazy. Who in their right mind pulls Holland there? Did Maddux say something? I’m trying to think of some reason why you replace him….
and to the flubbed pop-up, i bet teagarden would have caught is.
not that we’d know, since, you know, he does get a ton of playing time.
ha. i’m just being snarky. but i would like to see more evened out playing time between those two guys.
That was a nice play by young, he made it look easy.
@Old Tom: The pitching coach makes suggestions and recommendations, but ultimately it’s Washington’s responsibility. And it would be the height of hypocrisy for him to take credit for good moves and to blame Mike Maddux when moves didn’t work out. I’m sure Washington was acting on Mike Maddux’s advice there and most of the time.
Fun times. This game is going deep into the night. Work not going to be fun tomorrow.
If CJ walks Izturis I’m calling a Grand Snapoli.
cj is making me nervous. but cj always makes me nervous.
I just have to say that I hate Anaheim Angels Stadium of Anaheim or whatever it’s called….
ALWAYS just waiting for something terrible to happen…
And yes to more Teagarden….
I can’t watch this.
It was nice to hear that Chris Davis went 4 for 4 tonight for Oklahoma City.
Bases loaded, get out your drink of choice, Ranger fans….
okay which loss would be more devistaing last night or tonight if we find some way to blow it
Lets see some strikes.
Man I was late on the draw there….guess I took too much time being stunned.
I really want to see us not blow this game.
Napoli is a total CHEESEBALL with that jersey and necklace…
@Irish- Davis actually went 3/4 with a walk…Josh was incorrect!
Thats ok ryans dad, we will tell you what happens.
THANK YOU BASEBALL JESUS!!!!!!! And CJ.
Never a doubt.
left ‘em loaded again…
i think my baseball pants just exploded. happy and/or shocked the 7th ended.
That weren’t pretty, but rretty is for the Ladies’ Cotillion.
@alan Tonights, hands down. Millwood just got blasted last night, no doubt about it. But if this gets marked down as a loss, Ranger fans are gonna be pointing fingers at one Ron Washington for some questionable moves, not to mention an untimely Salty error. But hey, we’re 6 outs away from a win and a share of the lead!
Who is on a better roll right now than CeeJay?
Man….I was TOTALLY not worried there.
@ Rangers Fan – At least he got on base all 4 times and no K’s on his line. That’s what’s important.
We need some GEICO now baby!
We are running out of relievers one inning too soon. How does that work the rest of the way? We need a couple runs.
Got a runner. Let’s see some magic from our ROY candidate….
since I don’t tweet, i’ll just tell you here that I’m moving across the room for a bit to read the A. Gonzalez piece in espn the mag. nice job by blue glove.
@Irish- no doubt…I’ll take his walk over a homerun right now. It was after he got down 0-2.
cj will pitch the 8th.
A run or 2 would be nice.
@Fox: You’ve alway got Guardado
taking holland out after he was blazing to bring in jennings? that’s what i call “slap your leg stupid” that wash sometimes is prone to do when he has a sugar imbalance……seriously, what is his cholesterol? somewhere there’s a chemical imbalance sorta like a twitch…………
Evan, the site seems to be running much better now.
We are the worst bunting team in the history of ever. But I like the hit and run there…
Eddie’s my boy
Vlad is hurt, uh oh. You hate to see this.(Unless you’re a Rangers fan. tee hee hee.)
have to get this run in here
I never wish injury on somebody, but since he’s already hurt, here’s hoping the Impaler is out for the year, if not his career.
OK, let’s see Kinsler in a run producing situation.
Lets go Kins. Show us you are an All Star.
POP UP?
Vlad’s done, and now we get some GMJ, the most expensive 5th outfielder in baseball.
Hey, at least Kinsler can be productive with a fly ball here.
How about some props for Wash, nixing the bunt and going with the hit n run…nice move by the OSB! Give him his props!
I’m calling for an end to Kinsler’s slump…NOW
how many runs will we score with no outs and two on i say 2 can i be greedy?
You got the right guy up for a fly ball
So has Jules, sitting behind the plate, been cheering. I cant tell.
I am so tired about hearing IAN KINSLER and ALL-STAR GAME in the same sentence…if he deserved it and had done his part he would have already been on the dang team!
We could use a kinsler warning track fly ball here
Everything out of the strike zone, but Kins is swinging.
Yes Kins!!!!
You’re welcome.
Sun of a beach.
Kinsler with a double! Aw yeah!
That a boy Kinsler!!
Success!
WOW…finally.
I am just going to start ripping everyone, rip JONES (HR), call IAN a bum, (2B)..
MICHEAL YOUNG IS TERRIBLE!
MY homer right here!
puttin’ in the call.
Still shouldn’t be an all star, so please stop voting for him.
What’s funny is if you are looking at Kins box score the last two nights he has 3 RBI’s a HR and a double. Looks pretty decent from 35,000ft.
Kinsler should skip the All-Star game and work with Rudy anyways. Speaking of Mr. Jaramillo, does anyone other than me have the feeling that this hitting coach is a tad overrated?
All is forgiven. Where is that voting site again?
Im calling it for Josh right here
This comment is for the sole purpose of pushing this closer to 343.
@Ryans Dad: Your in a plane?
Nevermind.
Mathis now and save FF for tomorrow?
That is easy, we are shooting for 400.
Hammy making an impact on the game right there.
Who’s on the bench that bat’s righthanded?
Dang near another 3 run bomb
Nevermind, we don’t have another 1st baseman.
It doesn’t matter..who else is going to play 1st? I don’t like that idea.
How old is Darren Oliver now? It feels like he’s been in the league for 20 years now. Is he Oil Can Boyd old? Ha!
“Kyle: What if the batter had a 10-15 pitch at bat. And what if he gets a hit. Then what.
Also, as I mentioned above don’t forget about all of the warmup pitches in the bullpen and between innings. It all adds up.”
The guy has thrown something like 10/12 pitches for strikes–there’s no reason to think he will have a long ab and if the guy gets on you just pull him then..To think that there is a 10-15 pitch window there where you run into an injury concern is utter nonsense to me. If they thought he was that limited tonight you don’t even warm him up
@Part-Time Ranger Fan: Your comment actually tied the record.
@TD: You set it tonight.
@obagain: OK, you have called the new mark, so let’s get going.
How many more to 400? (see what I did here?)
woot woot! double steal.
I take back my earlier statment I think this would be one of the biggest wins in the last ten years hec maybe even going back to 96 or 98 I cant rember when it looked like it was slipping away and they had to go to Anahiem and win to keep from losing their lead they had and also that Michael young at bat may be one we look back on and say that is the one that propeled us in to a division championship who knows I think I may be right
Double Steal, gotta love it. It’s beautimous!
how long ago was darren oliver with the rangers? was it the 90s? because if it was, he has to be in his 50s by now.
I thought we got to 500 before.
Evan, I am doing my part, I have posted a fair amount tonight.
good work, team. (rangers and you guys)
@alan: kneejerk much?
@ alan – Not to foreshadow too harsh, but have you seen the last 7 games of the season for the Rangers? If this win was on one of those dates and for the division, then you’d be talking….
sorry for showing up WAY late, but I’ll be here until the end!
Ryans dad, that was in extra innings.
First of all I would like to thank GOD, who without him there would be no blogs and I also want to thank my agent and my family! Breaking the record has meant so much to me! YOU LOVE ME, YOU REALLY, REALLY LOVE ME!!
@Kyle: Again, I say he had thrown 19 or 20 pitches in the game. He had thrown 28 warmup pitches (14 when coming into the 4th, 7 before the 5th and 7 before the 6th) and another who knows how many (20?) in the bullpen. That’s 67 pitches on a day that he would normally throw 45.
You can’t assume that he would have a quick at bat. You have to have a plan when he comes into the game and the plan had to be “no more than 20 pitches”.
good catch by Hank
Oh that’s right. They are all starting to run together.
Nice quick 1-2-3 inning here.
Please.
Darren Oliver is 157 years old. Frank Sinatra told me one day at the barber shop.
Why bring CJ back perfect time for Mathis and save CJ for tomorrow…
@Ryans Dad: We got to 588 during the Rangers-D’Backs 12-inning game, but that was the extra inning record. We are shooting for the nine-inning record tonight….
@becca: He left after the 2001 season, traded to Boston for Carl Everett.
elvis makes our defense look fantastic.
man, Andrus is soooo smooth
Nah, save Mathis and Grille AND Eddie for tomorrow. 3 beats out 2.
Reason #10 to love Ian Kinsler – because if you have him on your fantasy head-to-head team, he can go 0-4 and still can up in the 8th inning and get you 5 points (double, rbi and SB).
Darren Oliver is 39 and I love the double steal
With CJ pitching we are sure to have a lot of time to post.
Wow- what a great Rome immitation by Lewin!
CJ hittin 97, you know he wants this. Here comes some junk.
great 1-2-3 inning. more runs offense!
Oh, I meant 139
it really does make things so much easier when cj is doing well at the pitching.
now i like that infield play
D-FENSE!
D-FENSE!
sry, slipped into football mode
That was a nice inning for cj.
Now lets get another run or 2 so we dont have a heart attack if a couple angels get on in the 9th.
AP- Toronto-The San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays have agreed on a 7 player deal. The San Francisco Giants will be sending outfielder Fred Lewis, infielder Kevin Frandsen, pitcher Bobby Howry, closer Brian Wilson and Minor League pitcher Kevin Kusetas who is 9-2 in AAA in exchange for Pitcher Roy Halladay and Infielder Adam Lind. The deal is pending league approval and Roy Halladay must waive his no-trade clause to the deal.
So much for that….
@Evan – you always like to point to Will Clark’s IF hit in 98 as one of his biggest contributions as a Ranger. If this win propels us to the playoffs, might you say the same thing about MY beating out that grounder tonight? Pretty big.
Alzheimer’s has set in on Mr. Oliver. He doesn’t even know where he’s supposed to be.
Not good when you pull the pitcher but forget to tell him.
it’s probably a good thing halladay didn’t come here. my baseball pants, that already exploded, would not have been able to handle his extreme awesomeness.
WHAT? Dear gosh what a staff they will have!
Or maybe the old man just couldn’t hear him. Ehh?
Looked a bit milfy behind the dugout
solid hit for murphy…too bad it was right at the first-baseman
who thought we would win tonight a spare pitcher going for us and a pithcer who always dominates us at there ballpark and and we gave them every chance( error)in the world to beat us tonight and we pull it out i would say this qualifies has a big win one of the bigger ones ia long time
Halladay and Lind? Kusetas must be a bad-a$$.
Evan, what would the equivalent of that be for us?
Murphy, Vallejo, Feldan, CJ and Feliz?
@jk – well it IS L.A.
What were you expecting, women in shawls? Ha!
Glad halladay is off the board so we dont have to worry about that.
Evan, is there any chance they are considering adding Esteban German to the team to take a load off the infielders along with Omar. I know it would take a corresponding move to do it, but carrying three position players on the bench doesn’t seem like the best idea for the Texas heat.
well we broke 400.. woo!
Halladay, Lincecum and Cain, and pray for rain and then rain again.
irish where did you see that story about holliday
I’m glad he’s not going anywhere in the AL.
@Ip1
Just pointing out the atmospheric conditions, sir
@alan: i cant read your sentences you have no punctuation or capitalization and it makes things confusing is your shift key broke maybe you are on mobile device it is tough to read nevertheless the end
Alright, Frankie, let’s do this 1-2-3. No horsin around…
A win here and tomorrow the rubber meets the road.
@Rangers Fan me too
alan – it’s on the ap wire up in Toronto. Got the feed from a friend.
@irishP1 – not seeing anything on that trade anywhere and can’t imagine that package would nab both Halladay AND Lind.
Nice start for FF.
frankie’s high heat is so tough to handle, especially when the low heat follows it. he made toriiiii look stupid
I’ll see if i can get the link for ya buddy.
I like the chances of those boys goin all the way now.
Night, Torii
@Jack Daddy: Yes, if they got both of those guys it’s a tremendous deal for SF.
And it gets better.
Suck it, GMj
see ya GM Jr.
Frankie is bringing HEAT
AP hasn’t updated since 7:45 pm, so you might not see it yet. Juan Rivera is a Francisco killer. Geebus.
That is why you want those extra runs.
that rivera guy needs to be the next guy hit with a pitch. but we’re positive padilla’s not pitching this series.
Man, Juan can hit
Wow, Rivera really sucks, huh?
OK- are we sure that the pink shirt guy is Borbon? He was applauding the homerun and if that is him…that ticks me off.
hello win column
Good game, woo!
tied for first!
Back to a tie for first.
Hey, hey, hey! The Rangers are BACK IN THE HUNT
i need to be feelin the love……..look at the streak my guy has………gotta be happy to up the ante, right?
BALLGAME! TIED FOR FIRST YET AGAIN!
(I fear Padilla’s start tomorrow, BTW.)
Great win for the good guys, hello first place again, we missed you.
@Ryans Dad hahahaha. im glad you’re channeling the ESPN crew tonight
If the Giants pulled off Lind AND Halladay for that package, then I’m really bummed. Pucetas sounds like a blake beavan comp.
Feldman, Beavan, Vallejo, CJ and Byrd for Halladay and Adam freaking Lind? very interesting. CJ is the only part of that gives me pause.
If Nippert looks like this again, I’d sure reconsider Hollad as a starter. Of course, we also have to see how the whole Hunter/harrison thing sorts out and if McCarthy ever comes back–and who goes at the trade deadline.
The bats are back! Gritty job by the pitchers, given the lapses by Jennings and O’Day. Nippert was about what I expected. Once more, why is Holland going to the bullpen?
Standing O for you guys setting a very high bar for us to beat in the near future.
McWho?
Old Tom, I’m guessing they need left handers in there.
Ryan’s Dad, Agree. Guess they are roster constrained from bringing up Pirate or Henckley (sp).
I was just watching the SF Giants version of Fox Sports SW and they have not mentioned anything about the trade.
Post game celebration looked a little calmed down to me. I like that… 5 games to the break and we need at least 3
It all makes sense somehow. Right now I’m going to go make sense of a dream or two. Later ya’ll.
FSN just told me that Evan reports that Nip gets the start Sunday. And I’m in a chat run by Evan.
My head hurts.
