Three Up and Three Down from Angel Stadium of Anaheim where the Rally Monkey was nowhere to be seen. As always, you are invited to toss in your own version, make suggestions about mine or whatever makes you feel most fulfilled.
Three Up
• Can you say “first place,” again?
• The Rangers put together their best inning of the season after 3B Michael Young singled with two outs in the fifth. Six more baters reached base in succession, accounting for six runs that erased a 3-0 Angels lead. Young’s hit started it, but DH Andruw Jones tied the game with a three-run homer and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a two-run single. Jones and Saltalamacchia each struck out in both of their first two at-bats before the fifth.
• With the bullpen running a little thin, LHP C.J. Wilson provided the extra planks in the bridge to the ninth. He got the last two outs of the seventh and pitched a perfect eighth.
Three Down
• RHP Dustin Nippert didn’t do anything promising in his first start. The Rangers were hoping they could get six innings out of him on 90 pitches. He didn’t finish the fourth.
• RHP Jason Jennings entered with a three-run lead, two outs and one in the sixth. He proceeded to walk two batters and hit one, forcing in a run.
•I don’t want Frank Francisco facing Juan Rivera in a key situation in the pennant race. He’s now hit two ninth inning homers off Francisco in the last 10 days.
Do we really need to see Nippert again Sunday? Seems like a bad way to end the 1st half.
This was a win to build on except for Wash and we may have to check his head for brain waves. He may be comatose and just running on adrenaline. WASH: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?
1 up andruw jones has to be the guy in that fourth spot if we’re going anywhere
2 up josh in lineup with his timing right on…..really missed him
3 up cj has to move back to ninth until frankie stops giving up the homer…..
1 down why is nippert pitching when tommy hunter is ready?
2 down wash pulling derek holland when he did…….just plain “slap your leg stupid”…..you’re killing it wash……..
3 down re-read plan on jennings. reread instruction not to put jennings in with runners on…..they automatically score…..
just fyi this is a terrible format for a post game analysis, which fits snugly with the fact that you’re a terrible post game analyst.
I think this happens to be a good format. It’s a start and lets others see a quick snapshot of what one sees as important Points to Ponder, Good or Bad, in the game.
Evan just happens to be better than the next best attempt, in the game, in the metroplex.
EG: What do the Rangers see in Dustin Nippert? Hasn’t he proven to be a lousy ML pitcher?
I love the 3 up & 3 down. Its a great stop gap between the end of the game, and the longer analysis.
Keep it up!
oh, and off topic, where are the basketball stories?
I’m not the type to spend a lot of time conducting in-game analysis, so rarely do I have the “what is he doing?” type of reaction until I hear others complaining. I nearly fell out of bed when Wash took Holland out though.
Three up and Three down is the first thing I look for on this web page – keep her coming and give that Grant guy a bonus for making me want to come back for more.
@ Poltergeist: If you dislike this site and Mr. Grant so much then you are a fool for coming here in the first place. Now that we know you are a fool we can take your comments with a grain of salt.
I like the 3U3D format, keep it up. It’s very succinct and is an easy way for fans to reply interactively with their own ups and downs.
I find these sorts of anonymous internet criticisms really worthless, especially when they aren’t detailed or constructive. What is it specifically about the format you don’t like? Why don’t you like those things? Could you offer some friendly suggestions as to improvements?
Probably not because that kind of person is either someone with an axe to grind (and immune to rationality and politeness) or they’re just a pathetic loser living in mom’s basement taking out their angst on internet forums instead of spending time with friends or (imagine!) a girlfriend/wife.
Clearly, the only thing that kind of person intends to do is to try to get under the skin of the target and make them feel bad. It’s sad, really.
