Hi Bob,
I absolutely love the Mavs and like their moves so far this summer but I cannot for the life of me understand the flippant, relaxed attitude they seem to have regarding possibly losing Ryan Hollins. Long, uber-athletic, enthusiastic, energetic....aren't these traits that every team in the NBA salivate over? At the very least, I
would think he could turn into a more athletic version of Varejo/Noah!!
Lastly, please blog more about the Mavs/NBA!

The fact that Marion is an above-the-rim player makes it a bigger negative, not less of a negative, that he's over 30. Those guys tend to get real old, real quick...

OK, first of all Bob, you are a ridiculous multi-tasker responding to comments here while you're on the air (and probably messing with your super phone at the same time). Your ADD helps keep all of us infotained (entertained + informed = infotained?).

Now to sports. If (a big if) Josh can stay healthy for 75+ games and continues to work on his game, this trade could be brilliant. He's shown flashes of being able to defend 2's and 3's, create his own shot, get inside, and hit mid/longrange jumpers. The key here is flashes. If he plays consistently at 80% of his potential, we actually have a shot at competing with LA. However, the most likely result is that Josh misses about 15 games and alternates between scoring 25 and pulling down 12 and getting in foul trouble and finishing with 10 and 4. Even if we get our consistently inconsistent Josh, we're still a better team than we were yesterday. Hopefully Josh gets his head straight, and Marion isn't the a-hole that wasn't satisfied with 34 million and playing 3rd fiddle to Amare and Nash.

@Jared - I just don't believe Josh can guard a scoring guard when it matters. He has proven in several playoffs in a row that when he tries to guard guys (and not just stand next to them) he fouls them. And when he misses a shot, he fouls out of anger 2 seconds later. And when he does that he jacks a bad three. Oh, wait. I am telling you all of my beefs with Josh. Sorry.

Way to bring some facts to the table utb.

How, exactly, does a swingman attack the hoop if he can't dribble?

Again, Josh's big weakness is that he can't PASS, not that he can't dribble.

"Josh also does not have the terrible handles so many people claim. He gets to the rim (when he’s trying to) because he has pretty decent handles..."

Maybe one of the most inaccurate comments ever posted on a sports blog.

I am just excited to see the Mavs trying to do something (even if part of that was resigning an over-the-hill PG that should never have been on the team anyway but with whom we are stuck, unless you thought Bibby would have been an upgrade).

Sorry to lose Wright, who I think had a lot more room to improve, but will trust the Mavs that Ross makes sense. Am still upset that the Mavs passed up Blair and the Spurs got him as I don't think our French PG will be of much use, but we'll see.

Bye Devean George -- I was glad when the Mavs originally got you, but you did nothing. Although those of us who did not want JKidd owe him a thank you for at least trying to screw that deal up!

Finally, Josh did not have "major" ankle surgery -- a scope only.

Weird tidbit about Humphries, from Wiki:

"His first success in sport came in competitive swimming, where he was the top 10 year old in the nation in 6 events, second only to a young Michael Phelps in the remaining events."
