Three Up
• The All-Star break is only 24 hours away and the Rangers could really use it. As manager Ron Washington said: “I don’t think the break has ever hit and I’ve said ‘Dang, why now’?”
• SS Elvis Andrus took a pair of walks, including making something from nothing when he botched a bunt attempt with C Jarrod Saltalamacchia at second base. Still, the Rangers would probably have preferred he had gotten the bunt down.
• Did I mention that I really enjoyed breakfast?
Three Down
• The Rangers now trail Los Angeles by a half game in the AL West and do not have complete control over where they will be in the standings at the All-Star break.
• LF Marlon Byrd was twice put out on the bases, once trying to stretch a double and once misreading a fly ball that dropped in. Against the guy with the sixth best ERA in the AL (Jarrod Washburn, who entered the game at 3.08), outs on the bases were costly.
• DH Andruw Jones went 0-for-4 and is now hitless in his last 14 at-bats since starting Wednesday’s game at Los Angeles with three consecutive home runs.
I have no original thoughts to add.
more murphy, less jones
105 pitches!
I totally misread the weekend. Really thought Rangers would take 3 games in Seattle and Angels would stagger through their series with the Yankees. Whoops.
Byrd went brain dead on the blooper to center. It was a hit and run, but he had a good look at the ball before he turned back to first. Bad base running decision.
Second game this series we wasted a good start.
I’m thinking Wash is one knee jerk from winning it all.
jb: Agree with you. However, Murphy shouldn’t start vs LHP. Now tomorrow Wash will probably start him vs Bedard. This team needs a RHB whose name is not Jones.
When he does start Murphy against a lefty it is always one of the best. Jones should just go away. So he gets a homerun now and again. He is not even working the count any more. He thinks he is Babe Ruth.
Too bad MaxRam hurt his wrist.
No. More. Jones. Please!
