The masses – all five of you have spoken – so there will be no official Depot tonight. I will be eating pizza and drinking beer, er, Dr Pepper with some friends. I may stop by occasionally to offer a pithy comment I thought of or stole from one of the others in the room.
But if you want to discuss the All-Star Shennaningans, feel free.
So a horse walks into a bar……
Hanley Ramirez
1st inning

All Star games are the ultimate waste of time–and I’ve been to a few. At least it’ll give tired bodies a break.
Why can’t everybody sing the Star Spangled Banner like Sheryl Crow? She just sang the thing. No stylistics. And it sounded great.
Josh Hamilton
2nd Inning
0-1 Count
0 on 2 outs
408 ft
Albert Pujols needs a restraining order against this FOX broadcast team that’s stalking him. Did you see the way McCarver was bouncing in his shoes when Buck just mentioned that he was gonna mention him?
Wonder what the reaction would have been to a Cubs jacket?
Nice version, agreed Evan.
Michael Young
4th Inning
2-1 count
0 on 1 out
439 feet
They are going to turn America against Albert.
What was up with the camera angle on Obama’s pitch? What was the call?
Geee….didn’t see enough of ICHIRO this past week.
double play ball right here
i am constantly getting bartelo colon and time lincecum mixed up.
i meant tim.
HAHA….I like Lincecum already!
And becca, me too!
they have the same build
ohhh! i wouldn’t have thought to call HB in the all star game. i guess the giants hate the yankees too. watch out texeria! this doesn’t look like it bodes well for your at bats.
It’s only the top of the first and I’m already tired of McCarver.
he can has cheezburger
I don’t think that is what the expected from Albert tonight
The Rangers are one step closer to home field advantage in the World Series!
national league looks like crap, no wonder they always lose
Mccarver sucks,…what’s wrong with lincecum???
glad it wasn’t a DP josh hit.
Rangers still not great with RISP.
did Josh just dive head first into the bag at first in an all star game? I love that guy
Good thing Lincecum didn’t cover first, otherwise not an auspicious first for the Ranger hitters…
i guess young getting the 3rd out isn’t any better.
I am going out on a limb here and say the rangers swing at the first pitch. Call me crazy.
I guess I should mention that the two Rangers in the lineup both swung at the first pitch.
My All-Star for tonight – the blonde at the end of the third row with the black top on when they use the tight camera on left-handed hitters
every time they say ‘evan longoria’ i get so excited cause i think joe buck is about to mention evan grant! but it’s always that longoria punk instead. stupid fox and mlb.
Pujols will probably K in his at bat, it seems like he has was trying too hard last night, i think the pressure is getting to him
@Little O: I’ve already spotted her, too. I likey.
I can’t decide if FOX thinks only Pujols fans are watching the game or if they fear no one knows who he is so they have to hit him hard. Great play by MY either way!
yeah, young’s d still isn’t so great at 3rd.
‘atta boy Young
I’m done with the projections, already 0-2 in the first inning.
does anyone else think that the transformers transform too fast, they need to slow it down a bit
ok so did Josh really dive head first into 1st? They didnt mention it but..it looked like it…
@Evan- too bad she’s with a Red Sox douche, not that I would ever have a chance but still…
Every time I see Tim Lincecum he reminds me of a grown up version of Mitch Kramer from Dazed and Confused, I think Kramer was even a pitcher in the movie.
For those of you who aren’t sure if you want the Rangers to go for it this year or wait until next year, McCarver should make that decision easier.
If the Rangers make the playoffs you can either go to the game or listen to radio broadcast, and not have to listen to this moron.
valid point, part timer.
Cut old Tim some slack, it’s not like he’s Joe Morgan or anything
i wonder if they cut halliday’s mic cause he was dropping f-bombs.
and the correct spelling is halladay.
Maybe it was when he said “…and check out Franklin’s beard. What a weirdo!” that they cut him off.
Too bad that didn’t use that mic for Artie Lange on Joe Buck’s abortion of a talk show
david wright shilling for a move about crime fighting gerbils? yes. that’s what the all star game is all about.
There’s a Ranger hit!
Are they going to talk to or about any player that’s not a pitcher?
I’ll never forget a couple years ago when Joe Buck spoke the words “And that brings up Jim Thome as the tying run. Now, here’s Kevin Kennedy with David Wright.” FOX isn’t exactly “watching” the game…
Do we think Cruz will get any time?
I thought we might see him pinch hit for the pitcher at some point.
@Lamar: I agree. I think he’ll pinch hit for pitcher later.
@Becca: I thought they were gophers. Gerbils.
i can’t say i’ve really am that up to speed with my pet rodents/cia agents. i will defer to google.
it was guinea pigs
“i really” not i’ve. i need to quit typing. brain hurts today.
I am sorry. Have been pondering off season travel. Thinking of The Netherlands and Switzerland. Any other European suggestions?
Thanks for the clarification.
@Evan: Don’t go to The Netherlands, go to Holland.
Does McCarver think Tampa Bay is in the National League? What is this, “In Edwin Jackson’s first year back in the American League ….”
@Evan: Florence is an incredible city!
@Evan Switzerland is gorgeous.
Ummm the Yankees played the Rangers May 26…where do these people get their information??
@Don: McCarver also just said “I remember a game we did on May 26 with the Phillies and the Yankees…”
That’s another interesting quote since the Yankees were playing in Texas that day.
this commercial does not make me want to eat tacos.
and Jason Bartlett might be interested to find out that he is now Ben Zobrist.
@becca: it took forever for me to figure out it was a Taco Bell commercial.
Evening all, what have I missed? Are Hammy and MY still in the game?
josh batted last inning. but i didn’t see if he was in the field.
and by last inning, i meant the top of that inning.
What a great Coors Light commercial
Wait, Pujols was playing in this game? Why didn’t they mention that earlier?
I know its cool to rail against all-star games and all that, but I love to watch the All Star game and I always have. Something magical about having all those great players on the same field. Ahhhh, look at the sky Freido!
Did I hear right last night that Pujols has 32HR’s and 35 K’s this year? Is that even possible? My guess is he’s never taken instruction from Rudy! Ok, ok, I’ll leave him alone tonight.
@Ryans Dad: I also love it. I just get tired of McCarver.
I know, he mentioned that the pitcher with the slow leg kick was slide stepping to keep the speedy Michael Young close to the bag????
@Ryans Dad: Not only is that correct for this year, but a few years ago (2006 maybe) he hit 49 HR and struck out 50 times.
That man is a bad-ace.
My goodness, Crawford…
And don’t get me started about Pujols, y’all, my internal “Beavis & Butthead” can’t handle it. I notice Buck’s always real careful to say “pujolsss”…
A little different experience this year for Papelbum. He was booed off the mound last year, and the crowd chanted “Mariano” almost the entire time he was on the mound.
What?! Surely I mis-heard that… He didn’t just say Texas is a game and a half up, did he?
No, he said the Angels lead Texas by a game and a half.
@ALL: If I heard correctly, McCarver was dead-set that had Carl Crawford not caught the ball, it would have been off the top of the wall. … right until the replay clearly showed he stole a homer away.
I have always liked watching All-Star Game intros, but the game, with the last men elected to the team making the difference seems anti-climactic.
Now discussing Argentina.
@PT: Whew!
@Evan: Don’t go to Argentina, go to Buenos Aires.
I’ve always liked Granderson as a player. The more I find out about him personally, the more I like him.
I’m calling an Adam Jones double.
I’ve always thought that Buenos Aires was in Argentina….
Argentina is a great choice if you are traveling in the winter because that is their summer.
@Don: I was just trying to see if anyone would call me out. No one said anything earlier when I said “Don’t go to The Netherlands, go to Holland”. I was just curious to see if anyone was paying attention.
@Evan: Switzerland in summer = excellent. Switzerland in February = lovely but cold. And whenever you go, look out for the overly aggressive swans.
@PartTime: I must have missed the earlier one. Sorry?
Oh, good point Don, and here’s the deal sealer. The toilet water flushes backwards. Worth the price of airfare just to see that.
And it really IS Ben Zobrist this time!
How does salary have anything to do with whether or not you are an MVP candidate?
If they actually called the game rather than used it as an excuse to talk about each player in turn, they wouldn’t need nonsense like that salary business to kill time.
@ALL: Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls and Patagonia have caught my interest.
First thing McCarver has said that I’ve agreed with in a long, long time: That Youkilis might be the most valuable player in the AL. Of course, that’s how I saw it on my MVP ballot last year, but that’s another story.
@ryansdad: I really, really hope you are speaking of a bidet. If not, I’m not sure that I want to see it!
Speaking of Maddon, it did make me wanna puke when they introduced 5 Rays. I know, I know, it’s expected for the managers to do that…. but it’s still just wrawng.
@PTRF: That was the part of McCarver’s statement that I DIDN’T agree with. It has nothing to do with the $$$
@Juboon: you won’t think it’s wrong when Wash does it!
@evan: maybe it shows who has the overall best league…because of depth? idk..and why was he dead set on naming Wakefield bc of his career achievements but he’s not even playing?
@Don: No, ryansdad is correct. Water swirls in the opposite direction below the equator.
if you’re talking south america, peru is great. watch out for the cholera, though.
@Don: That’s what my husband said! From y’all’s lips to God’s ears!
No,no,no you have misunderstood. In our country when you flush a toilet the water spins counterclockwise as it goes down the drain. Below the Equator the water spins clockwise. My question is what do toilets on the equator do? Maybe they can’t have toilets there. That must suck.
@ PartTime I caught it when you said Holland and laughed.
Thanks, Me.
Joe Buck: Adrian Gonzalez one of best power hitters unknown to most of the county. You know why? Because FOX and ESPN insist on talking only about Boston and the Yankees.
@Evan: Preach it, brother…
Evan, quick question. It has now been 1/2 of a season since the blog has been up. How is it progressing? Has this been considered successful? Is it making D $$$? Are there any new ideas, people, or changes of any kind being considered?
Sorry! I wasn’t thinking clockwise or counter-clockwise. When my toilet flushes, the water goes down!
Did that video of Bud Selig make him look a little too much like Mr. Burns wringing his hands?
Elvis would have had that.
Kinsler would’ve had that…
@Evan: You know what’s funny? As someone who grew up in NY I never understood the “east coast bias” theories until I moved down here. Now, even as a Yankee fan, I will admit that they get too much attention (along with Boston).
i just thought selig’s jowls looking a little more pronounced tonight. could have just just been the ‘up-angle’ of the camera, though.
Elvis or Kins would have had that…new pitcher needed
It doesn’t help Gonzalez that he plays on the West Coast (San Diego, even!).
good thing all those tampa bay guys are out there…i kid. i mean kinda. they DID get to the world series last year. but other guys on other teams are good too…
Can you imagine how much we would have heard about Barry Bonds if he had played for Boston or New York?
@don – you mean they even HAVE baseball out there? wild.
@becca: i heard a rumor about it ….
At least the metroplex enjoys some media overexposure with the Cowboys and our “hollywood” QB.
I hope Nelly gets in there…
If you haven’t checked your e-mail, Jamey has Feliz’s answers to our questions.
Do they give the Yanks so much coverage because there are so many Yankee fans all over the country, or are there so many Yankee fans all over the country because they get so much coverage?
What came first…
Has anybody heard an ETA for Feliz?
The only think that I have heard is from Jamey Newberg. He suggested within 10 days.
Darn! I think that is where I heard it, but please don’t hold me to that.
@PT: Honestly? I suspect it’s neither. I think it got to be a habit, because a) the media and the team are in the same town so it’s convenient, b) the Yankees were so good for so long, c) the Yankees have always been controversial (and they don’t care why we watch, as long as we do), and d) they’ve got the advertising dollars, and these days, that’s where the news goes as well.
Who goes down…Nippert?
Thanks, Don!
or maybe Mathis.
Since they’ve only got the three man bench now, I assume both Nippert and Mathis will be gone by the time Feliz gets here because they’ve got to get away from the 13-man pitching staff.
No, its just that people love winners and nobody has won more than the Yankees. Its that simple.
I heard JD on The Ticket last week say something to the effect of Feliz would pitch back to back last weekend to see how did, then pitch in the futures game, have a four day rest and then in very vague terms suggested Arlington was a possibility. When is/was the “Futures” game?
@DP, I see your point but I beg to differ. And to illustrate my point, I offer…. the Dallas Cowboys. I’ve been haunted ever since someone (was it Sturm? or someone on the Ticket?) pointed out that the Cowboys haven’t done squat since before their KIDS were born.
Futures game was Sunday.
Just saw the hot blonde in the black tank. Nice.
Evan – you’re funny tonight.
Favorite non ranger – chase utley
least favorite – teixeira
future announcer – Curtis granderson. He was great last night.
Most distinct common skill these guys have? Hoses for arms.
It was Sunday, but he hasn’t pitched back-to-back days yet.
@ Jack Daddy
Agree

Not bad.
He didn’t this weekend? JD said specifically that he would.
Why does everyone hate Teixeira so much?
Rivera – top 10 pitcher all time? Maybe higher, IMO
No. They didn’t have him do it because he was supposed to pitch 2 innings in the Futures game.
yeah, that rivera guy is pretty ok.
Did Cruz ever play?
Because he personifies everything wrong with Major League Baseball.
Well said, RyansDad…
I agree..Teixeira is my least liked player in all of baseball.
Gotta love Rivera. Not only is he one of the best ever, but he’s a heckuva guy. Very humble, great teammate, and never been in an ounce of off-the-field trouble.
Ptrf – don’t really hate him. Just a weaselly mercenary. Great player though. Though his aprils buried us as much as anything.
No Cruz…:(
Oh well, goodnight boys and girl.
I’m not trying to play devil’s advocate about Teixeira. I wasn’t here when he played here, but I know he put up great numbers. He was traded, and then signed with the team that gave him the most money. That’s not unusual in this game. What makes him so much worse than every other player?
He never connected with fans here. He was snobby, had an infamous problem with the Ticket, the list continues…
Did Crawford just say he was able to get an autograph by Osama? Wow.
@PTRF: It’s hard to explain. He was just a cancer. Kinda a Bonds type (to bring up someone else who was mentioned earlier). I even met Tex once and he was perfectly normal as a person. But when it came to his work… notsomuch. And maybe that’s it. Dude, you get to play a freakin’ GAME for a living, and you get paid an insane, ungodly amount of money to do it; be more positive about it, not so whiny.
@Rangers Fan: Is the Ticket that powerful that a problem with them will make the fan base hate a player? What was the problem?
never underestimate the power of the ticket..haha no but seriously, it embodies him…he’s uptight, never looked like he liked what he was doing, complained, etc. A-Rod had much the same problems. I met him once. Talk about total jerk.
@PTRF: Also keep in mind that MY, Hank and Ian signed extensions. It was pretty clear all along that Tex wanted to be a Free Agent. That doesn’t endear him to the fans, either.
@ranger’s fan: were you a hooters waitress that he tipped poorly?
@Juboon: Ok. Again, I’m not trying to be a cotrarian. Just curious.
Again, I’m coming at it from a different perspective. As a Yankee fan I watch all the Yankees broadcasts, read the Yankee blogs, read the NY papers, and he is loved there for the hard-nosed way he plays the game.
In NY it isn’t about “connecting” with the fans. Jeter is very quiet. No one knows what he’s like off the field, but it doesn’t matter. He is a hero because he does his job well and wins. That’s all that matters there. Play the game right, hard, and win and you’re a hero. Scott Brosius is more beloved than A-Rod because he won a WS.
Was that the worste sports broadcast ever? They only interesting thing about this game was the Obama pitch and apparently the Fox camera man couldn’t keep up with the heat Obama fired. Oh, lets not forget the 2 minute taco bell ad and the post game MVP interview that the sound was in 6 second delay!
@becca- haha no.
@PTRF: he didn’t want to be here and he was going to get out of town as soon as he could. Would that make you like him? and it’s not like we didn’t try to sign him for REALLY good money. He didn’t want to be here and it wasn’t a big secret.
@Don: Fair enough.
@PTRF- You have to remember that Yankees fans and Rangers fans are very different in one way…a winning team. We have had very few of them and no playoff success. So, it’s important to connect with the fans and develop an “all hands on deck” mentality to give you a reason to come to the park. The current Rangers team has connected with fans. That makes it all the more fun to go watch them play, along with the winning thing!
Also, Jeter has played his entire career in NY and lead them to the promise land. Young is our Jeter…just waiting for that success!
@Don: I’ve just heard a couple of times that he “didn’t connect with the fans”, and I didn’t know what that meant or why it mattered.
Not wanting to play for a team, and making it obvious, is a good reason to dislike him. That I understand.
@PTRF: also, Texas fans aren’t exactly partial to “preppie” ball players! We kinda like “good ‘ol boys!”
@Don: lol. What is a “preppie” ballplayer?
@PTRF: One you wouldn’t want to have come to your BBQ because they’d bring wine instead of beer and turn up their noses at your brisket?
@Juboon: I bet if those “preppie, wine drinking” players won a WS they’d be more than welcome.
Well, yeah.
I think you and RangersFan are right — win, and nothing else matters. But as long as we have no winners, it’s really important that we be able to relate to the players as people. You want to feel like you would want to hang out w/ them. (And I’m not knocking wine, BTW!
)
@PTRF: only if they REALLY wanted to play for us! And Tex is the epitomy of “preppie.”
@Juboon: that was a WONDERFUL description!
Good stuff.
@Don: glad to be able to jump in.
Wow, this years game took 2:31, or 2:20 shorter than last years game.
Good night, All! I had a great time!
Me, too! Peace out y’all
