Post-Game Show: Rangers 4, Red Sox 2

Box score

Three up

• Raise your hand if you knew Tommy Hunter, an Oklahoma RedHawk with a 3.83 ERA a month ago, would defeat Josh Beckett. Hunter has a 2.17 ERA this season as a Ranger counting that emergency start in May, only 1.52 in the four starts since filling in for Matt Harrison. Last year at Boston, he got five hitters out and surrendered nine earned runs. Tuesday night, four hits and one walk in six innings.

• Maybe it’s “everyday” O’Day and C.J. With Frank Francisco on the disabled list, the Rangers converted another save situation without their closer as the aforementioned duo each worked their third consecutive night.

• Whether Ian Kinsler gets hits or not, he keeps trying to win in other ways. On Tuesday, he called and led that double steal with Andruw Jones in the first. He caught two foul outs, one in serious traffic (meaning he crashed into the short brick wall). And he advanced a runner to third in the bottom of the eighth to help engineer the final run.

Three down

• Francisco already ailing and on the DL, Omar Vizquel was pulled from the lineup with flu-like symptoms and Eddie Guardado wasn’t available in a short bullpen because he was sick.

• Just who will be available in the Texas bullpen on Wednesday night?

• Barring a miraculous comeback by the Royals in Game 2 on Tuesday night in Kansas City, the victorious Rangers will lose ground to the Angels.

O’Day and C.J. should be unavailable tomorrow (both have pitched 3 consecutive days)
Jennings should be unavailable (he hasn’t pitched 2 consecutive days all year).
    Eddie has the flu.
    Grilli has a bum ankle.

    That leaves: Eyre, Mathis, Nippert

    Who closes tomorrow?

  • scooper

I would be real tempted to put Omar and Eddie on the DL.

  • scooper

…we already have a short bench and a short ‘pen. Get 2 healthy bodies in here.

  • Dan

It was fun sitting in everyone’s general vicinity tonight!

  • rob m

scooper: Jennings has pitched on back-to-back days twice this year.

  • Rangers Fan

Apparently CJ is pitching hurt…a minor ab strain he says. Still, it makes tonight all the more clutch and RELIABLE. I don’t know how you can take the closer job away from him and hand it back to Frankie who hasn’t earned it.

I do think you have GOT to bring someone up. We have no bench players and 3 pitchers…unless you put Holland back in the pen..but I don’t know if you can do that with 2 days rest. They’re in a serious bind.

    call Feliz up now
    CJ strongest man in pen
    prevent injuries

  • becca

although i was surrounded by red sox fans in section 246, it was great knowing cornerians were around. great win for the good guys!

I would just like to say that I think it is crap that the “free” Rangers tickets for voting for the All-Star game are not “free” at all….there is a 2 dollar convenience fee, and you have to bill it to your credit card.

This combined with the fact that you have to pay for onions on dollar hot dog night, just makes me sick of the penny pinching Rangers.

Fine, you want a convenience fee? Well, then you lost out on my 2 dollars and the 40 or 50 dollars I am sure I would have spent had I actually gotten “FREE” tickets!

Ok, rant against management over…..great game by the players! Go RANGERS!

    bitching bout onions
how much did they really cost?
    a humorous rant

  • Tom B

It was good to meet EG tonight. Everybody else was cheering Sox. You gotta love Hunter and O’Day and CJ. Jennings can take a ride on the Reading, Do Not Pass GO, and DO NOT Collect $200. I’m liking Elvis even more. This might be serious, Folks. I’m still wondering about what Andruw brings consistently that lights Wash’s fire. I am now officially Dr. Pepper Friendly. Actually, I have identified my 23 different personalities and each has a different flavor.

@evan be careful in the dining room……use lots of purell…….don’t touch your finger to your eye…….or you’ll be singing the same flu song……….geez nolan how did this happen? poor hygiene habits?

  • TD

    @haiku man:

    I didn’t buy the onions
    Can’t tell you the cost
    Penny pinching sucks

  • obagain

I would call up moscoso, feliz would have to be added to the 40 and someone would have to be released.
Call up borbon or german to fill in on the bench.
If we dont make a move cj’s arm is going to fall off.

  • JT

Great meeting Evan tonight, good weather, great game, little girl had blast and didn’t get restless till 8th, awesome food! What more can you ask for???

The way the BoSox have handled their post game comments the past two nights is exactly the reason why I can’t stand them.
For each of the first two games of this series the Rangers have clearly been the better team. From clutch hitting to defense to superior pitching performances they have just been the better team.
And yet when we read the Sox post game comments they only talk about how they are slumping at the plate and making bad pitches.
Baseball is a game steeped in tradition, and one of the traditions is that when a team outplays you, you tip your cap to them.
I hope the Rangers take exception to this the next two days and play with a chip on their shoulder.

I couldn’t get over how obnoxious the bosox fans were. Other than that, great game and great cornites. i was upset i didn’t get to meet more of us. Did get to see becca, dylan, dan and JT.

  • RangerFan

I’m going tonight…already preparing myself for what a huge beting the Sox fans will be.

  • Longhorn Matt

I saw Tommy Hunter pitch for the Redhawks when they came to Round Rock last year, and he looked dominant. When he got called up last year, that was not the same Tommy Hunter that I saw that night in Round Rock. This year he is showing why he moved up the system so fast last year. Keep up the great work, Tommy.
