BTW, Peavy also has a no-trade clause, and I am 99% confident that he would NOT have come to Texas. TR Sullivan reporting that in fact Halladay vetoed coming here too.

Seems to me like the Rangers were too focued on one guy and missed on opportunities on pitchers that might not be future hall of famers but could help this year and next and would not cost more than one top prospect. Peavy? Lee? Zach Duke??

@Brian, We’ll get back to you with a rasberry come October but, of course, by then you will have changed your name to perrenial winner ‘Ranger Homer.’ There is still a lot that can go wrong but it could also with Halladay. The well is deep with fresh talent that is just looking to develop and be given a chance with the Rangers. Some will fall short but some will surprise us, pleasantly. Cinch it up tight boys, This may be more than a 8 second ride.

How many years in a row do you play for next year before you are the Pittsburgh Pirates? Why would the only team in baseball history who has never won a playoff series pass up on a chance to get the Ace everyone in Dallas/Ft Worth has been crying about for 9 years? So we can play for next year and hope these guys are good? Help is better than hope every day of the season. The Rangers gave up. Plain and simple. If you are really that confident that when Smoak and Feliz make the bigs the Rangers will be contenders then you are kidding yourself, and I have 30 years of Ranger hisory to back that up. The window was open, the chance was there. They balked. So go the Rangers; just like every other miserable year.

Halladay would be a difference-maker. There aren’t many of those out there. Why make a trade just to make a trade? If we get another starting pitcher, Holland would move to the ‘pen. Do you want to do that now? Our offense is starting to come around. If our guys hit at their average level for the rest of the year, the offense is fine. Why give up prospects if it isn’t going to make a significant difference?
