5:50: Yes, you can still get in the home run pool.
7:17: Tommy Hunter allows a one-out walk and then a double to Adam Lind – who else? – to score a run. Hunter has allowed runs in six of his last eight starts.
7:23: Ron Washington said he was uncertain who would start on Monday, at Cleveland, the next time the fifth starter’s spot comes up. Both RHP Dustin Nippert (6 IP, 2 R) and RHP Brandon McCarthy (6.1 IP, 1 R) qualified for quality starts in Tuesday’s doubleheader. Both alos have relief experience, though McCarthy has been exclusively a starter since coming to Texas.
7:25: Though he can’t throw because of numbess in his right shoulder due to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, C Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been activated from the DL. With Michael Young out and the Rangers lacking in right-handed bats on the bench, Saltalamacchia can be used as a pinch-hitter. He has also put on hold his plan to get a second opinion on the shoulder.
7:30: And now for some linkage to our earlier coverage, which was extensive. Though he’s going to miss at least two weeks, Michael Young hopes to return for the LA Angels series that begins on Sept. 18. In the meantime, the Rangers could consider adding a third baseman, such as Melvin Mora. Also, it wouldn’t hurt if the guy who showed up in Game 2 of Tuesday’s doubleheader is the real Josh Hamilton. Oh, and this update from the AL playoff race: Tampa Bay is leading Boston, 5-2 in the fourth.
8:09: This story from the Sports Business Journal says the brokers for Hicks Sports Group received inquiry letters from six prospective groups interested in taking control of the Rangers. )H/T to the DMN’s Richard Durrett, who first linked to this from his sick bed. And warmest wishes for a speedy recovery from the strep.)
8:15: The Angels have lost to King Felix Hernandez, as the great one, Jeff Miller, pointed out.
8:17: Josh Hamilton has left the game. Marlon Byrd is in center. We’re checking.
8:31: Lower back pain for Hamilton; will be re-evaluated on Thursday.
Hey guys, hope the Rangers win today. Could use another 2 HR game by HammBone
I’m so glad being first on the blog I’ll just post again. GO RANGERS
I’m going to Boston this weekend for my cousin’s wedding party. I’m going to wear my Rangers hat. Wish me luck.
Hey, Rangers Fan! I’m ready for a Rangers’ victory! How ’bout you?
ready and hopeful
Greetings from Amsterdam again. Hazelle and Kittin Klonhammer both here. We’re going to watch the first part of the game with you folks again. Like this talk here very much. Very encouraged by last night’s double header. (Like the early starts!) Is there any way you can send me some Ranger cap? Bedankt!
Let’s make up some more ground on LAAA and Boston tonight.
Greetings everyone from beautiful, scenic section 215 where both teams are again wearing their softball uniforms. Don’t want to get off on this subject again tonight, but is a Mench Rangers jersey appropriate at the game? I’m not wearing it but I saw one in the parking lot.
Wow, Cito Gaston has a pair on him. How do you not start Vernon Wells in the last game of the season for him at home?
Today’s an excellent day to imagine life in an alternate universe where the Red Sox had never broken through and won the World Series. They’d be much more likely to fold and lose the Wild Card to the Rangers and I would not be reading headlines that combined the words “Schilling” and “Senate”.
What…someone has the same name as me! Should I change mine?
Go tampa!
OK. Which one of you is OUR Rangers Fan?
That would be me scooper…haha..the one that has been posting for a while! Any new name ideas?
I just gotta ask because the curiosity is killing me – is Hazelle and Kittin a guy and a girl? If so, which one is which? And no offense, it sounds like two girl names to this uneducated Neanderthal.
I thought you were awesome just the way you were! “Real Rangers Fan” works for me.
Ok, I’ll stick with it…
Looks like we might be getting invaded by the DMN crowd.
@john: I was scared to ask (and I was still trying to figure out if it was a legit post).
@obagain: I was wondering if that might be the case.
@John & Scooper: No way they’re real. Funny though.
Dont feed them and they will go away.
Hank better play like his pants are on fire…this is his last shot at a decent contract…
Good start for hunter.
Hank will want to pick things up for MY, too.
@Lamar: I would like to live in that alternate universe where the Red Sox never broke through.
They sell a great t-shirt outside Yankee Stadium that says, “There never was a curse. The Red Sox just sucked for 86 years. Reverse that!”
@scooper: Forgive me but my hopes are not high for the Hank Blalock hot streak…
Hey, PTRF! How are you doing this evening?
scooper, that is what gets hank in trouble, he needs to be who he is and stop trying to do too much.
Rooting double-hard tonight because I’ll be at all three games in Baltimore this weekend and I want those games to matter as much as possible!
@PTRF: That sounds like a great T-shirt!
@PTRF: Lol, BTW, apologies to anyone who thought that was a political comment, it was just a “I hate Curt Schilling” comment.
beckett is really struggling lately.
He has already given up 4 in 3 innings tonight.
That was a pretty terrible pitch…
@Lamar: I have trouble picturing Schilling in ANY position of authority (political or otherwise)!
@scooper: Doing good. How about you? I’m not watching Rangers yet (Yanks are in the 4th inning), but will be flipping back and forth a little and will tune in at end of NY vs BAL game.
I guess I spoke too soon, hunter is struggling now.
That was not smart baserunning.
repeating a post from elsewhere today:
20-10 puts us at 94 wins. We play LAA in a 4 game set starting Sept. 28th. We have 22 games to make up 2.5 games in the standings so that we enter that series 2 back. Take 3 of 4 and we’re tied with 3 games to go (us vs. Sea, them vs. Oak).
Take 2 of 3 against Sea and it sets it up for a 1 game playoff — to be held in Arlington. That’s right, rule change this winter and home field goes to the team with the best Head to Head record.
So, the next 22 games are important. That’s 3 1/2 weeks of baseball. 2.5 games in 3.5 weeks.
Can we do it? Why not?
Great…here comes Hunter with his unfortunate 1st inning…will the offense be able to make up for it?
I HATE Schilling. Why can’t he just shut up and go away?
I think Beckett has given up something like 10 HR’s in his last three starts. Crazy. Hope he keeps it up.
@PTRF: I’m doing good. I’m all settled in at my new place, so things are getting back to normal.
I was hoping that would reverse it.
@RRF: Yeah, the offense can do it. Kins and Josh are getting back to hot, CD is doing good, etc.
@Jack Daddy: Wow. That is an impressive breakdown.
@Jack Daddy: Did you listen to Diamond Talk last night?
It will be interesting to see how elvis does at the top of the order.
Hunter wouldn’t know how to pitch even or with an early lead. Just hope he survives until he settles down.
The Rangers won’t do anything in September if pitchers give up runs in the first inning.
That didnt work.
@obagain: I’m thinking that Elvis will be fine. Just like Borbon came thru the minors leading off, Elvis batted second. He’s used to the role and to following Borbon.
@Joel: if they only give up 2 in the first, the Rangers will be fine. Very few times will 2 runs win a game against the Rangers.
joel, I dont like 2 runs but we should be able to overcome a 2 run deficit.
@obagain: My thought is not good. Not to be overly negative…but II don’t think he’ll flourish there. He has a comfort level so high.
Dang, Richmond has a nice slide step.
Jays have thrown out about everbody stealing.
We’ll see if they are stealing signs or picked up something in the runner.
doesn’t have*
Okay can we keep up the trend la and bos lose and we lose and WE will get shut down by a spare tonight if the trend continues answer to all the above will be yes
scooper, I wish they would have let borbon try the steal instead of the hit and run.
I do like being agressive though, I never have a problem with an agressive out.
@obagain: Elvis made good contact, it just went right to the 2nd baseman. But he did what he needed to do.
@obagain: I’m with you, can’t shut down the runners just because running doesn’t always work.
Raise your hand if you’d prefer Jones stay in the minors for the duration? ~shooting hand up~
Way to settle in, Tommy!
I hope hunter does his normal struggle in the 1st and then shut them down til the 7th.
My hand is raised!
@RRF: I’m pretty sure Ron Washington’s is the only hand that’s not raised. OK, maybe Jones’ Mom too, at least unless she’s a Rangers fan…
a hit and run isn’t exactly shutting down the runners. It just didn’t work out.
RRF, he is there for insurance, if anything happens he can be called up, otherwise he finishes the season in the minors.
Is Tommy Hunter the new Jaba??? Terrible first, great after that?
Has Washington ever given rational for being loyal to Jones? Seriously…he’s stunk it up since April!
Wash likes vets.
@RRF: Apparently you haven’t watched Joba lately. He is terrible in the first…and then terrible for the next 4.
Why the heck is Davis at 3rd and not 1st? (vice versa for Hank)
Dumb.
@PTRF – no. ONly listen to TKT in car.
…he wanted a RH power bat for the middle of the order. Andruw is who they gave him.
@RRF: Washington is loyal to people he likes
RW is a big believer in “He used to be awesome!” I think if Mike Schmidt showed up in spring training, he’d give him ABs.
Ok seriously…a troll is taking me over!
what hurts worse, by the way?
losing MY in and of itself, or the vacancy creating a spot to allow blalock to play?
@Cop: I could be wrong, but I think Hank has an injured arm. Can’t throw.
OK. Are you both posting as “Real Rangers Fan” or are you talking to yourself?
@scooper: Look like I’ll watch the game minus the corner tonight. Don’t want to fight through an imposter.
@PTRF: the throwing arm is why he moved to first, but he did play a game or 2 at 3rd earlier this year. I think they just think that CD played 3rd pretty well when he was at OKC earlier.
Someone else is posting as me. Glad to see Pudge get that ovation
@OUR Real Rangers Fan: I don’t blame you. I’m not real fond of idiots myself.
@PTRF. He also has an injured bat. Can’t hit.
RRF, just use another name and dont tell us, we will probably figure it out by your posts, dont let the troll win.
@obagain: good idea!
@scooper: Gotcha. I was only going by what Evan wrote last night. He said something to the effect of the Rangers possibly playing Hank at third and risk further injury to his arm since he’s only a Ranger for another month.
@RRF (the real one): Hang with it. We’ll work through this identity crisis.
@Jack Daddy: Lol.
It’s really immature for people to take over your name
Way to go, Hank!
hank with a nice hit.
Game 1 of 14 without without MY is a push, right?
Figure you would take a 1 hit, 1 rbi performance by Mike. So 1 down, no harm.
@Evan: Since everyone is required to put in an email address it should be pretty easy to figure out the imposter. Then you could block them, no?
rays 5-3 top 4th
mariners 1-0 bot 7th
I’m guessing that the obagain post at 7:37 was an imposter.
if he throws that pitch on 3-1, its gone
@obagain: unfortunately, there are a lot of really immature people out there. We’ve been lucky here at the Corner, at least most of the time.
I love the old davis right there swing and a miss
@obagain, scopper: Dang, I can’t even think of a name! I liked Ranger Fan…very universal!
PTRF, yes it was.
@Evan: So Josh Lewin just gave credit to Rudy for CDs stroke while @ AAA. Is that true or is he protecting Rudy
@PTRF: Don’t want to block/edit someone for anything else than being rude. It’s like we’ve got a couple of John Smiths out there. I’d suggest that the original Rangers Fan go with Ranger Fan 1 and No. 2 go with Ranger Fan 2. This way, if we get 1 million “Ranger Fan” monikers we can always set them apart.
I don’t think the second Ranger Fan has posted anything offensive.
RRF, make it your dogs name or something like that.
@evan: the problem is, our original Rangers Fan switched to Real Rangers Fan, then the imposter switched, too. And, apparently, also posted as obagain, also.
if any intelligent comments come from Jack Daddy tonight, you can be assured it’s an imposter.
going upstairs to give my little ones a bath (2 nights in a row Jack Mamma is out? I need to get control of this scene!).
still think kins should be a LF instead of 2nd.
He gets a great break on the ball.
@Evan: Whoever it is is doing it intentionaly. He first used “Ranger Fan”. Then when the original Ranger Fan changed his name to “Real Ranger Fan” the guy started using that name. A few minutes ago he started using “obagain”. He’s trying to screw with everyone. That’s why I suggested blocking him/her.
@Texas_Rocks: This whole who does the credit thing go to can get a little ugly. It should go mostly to Chris Davis since he did the work, but it should also be pointed out that minor league instructors Scott Coolbaugh and Mike Boulanger did significant work with him. And both of them take marching orders from Rudy Jaramillo. So, I think it was a mistake for Josh Lewin to single out Jaramillo, but that could have just been a slip of the tongue. It’s a team effort.
@Jack Daddy: Lol. You’re on fire tonight. Is it really you?
7:44 is obviously an imposter comment as well.
@evan: my take on it was that Josh has heard complaints about Rudy not being able to fix CD’s swing, and he was trying to point out that Rudy did take part in the “fix”.
Really impressed with the way Big Game Tommy Hunter seems to get back in there after he gets into trouble. It may not always seem pretty, but I do like the way he “Eats Innings” up
@ALL: Understood. I’m making a gentle request to the user who has copied others names to use a different moniker here since we are a friendly and familiar community.
@PTRF: yep.
Evan, thanks for trying to stop this before it gets out of control.
@PTRF: that sounds like the real Jack Daddy.
@PTRF – I’m a crowd pleaser.
Prediction – Scott Coolbaugh is the Rangers Hitting Instructor next year. Isn’t Rudy nothing more than a “swing coach”? I’m not sure doesn’t know they actually play a game out there – I think he might think this is home run derby.
And there’s another one.
From the original Ranger Fan, formerly Real Ranger Fan, the one who champions the CJ Wilson, Chris Davis and Ian Kinsler cause and strongly dislikes the Blalock and Jones show:
Well, I’m keeping my original name. If the other person wants to post at Rangers Fan, I’ll add #1 but if they’re just going to copy every name I’m sticking to the original!
@Ranger Fan: Nice! Don’t let the terrorists win.
@RangerFan: Glad you’re still here. This whole thing is absurd.
that really was Jack Daddy. Now, I’m going upstairs.
i’m here and enjoying big thunder hunter. but blogging while live drafting my fantasy football league is too much for my tiny brain. go rangers!
oh well…you’ll probably be able to tell what is me and what is not! Maybe over the off-season they can implement a registration type thing…
With the Mariners taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, I’ll keep a close eye on the top of the ninth. Kazmir in line to lose giving up three hits and a walk.
Good evening everyone, I see we have a controversy. I was wondering how long it would take before this happened.
@ryansdad: just idiots invading the site.
Dear John in Clearwater, I am Hazelle, a man and Kittin is my wife. We are big Ranger fan. Whoops, don’t want to confuse with other Ranger fan. Well, goodnight. Very late here.
Should have known.
Tommy is having a problem with location within the strike zone today. Cant be mad at him or Holland when they do that because you can’t expect anything else from rookies.
Great. Was the amsterdam couple for real?
Brian Fuentes, brought on in the eighth, has walked in a run with two out. M’s, 3-0.
Sea 3 – LAA 0: We really need to win this one
No. And that was probably the imposter.
That was close
Hunter is struggling…not good. He needs to go deep with the bullpen being stretched.
Andrus amazes me more every day. That’s not a rookie play, that’s a veteran play
Loving the M’s playing the Angels hard! Of course, they’re probably still fantasizing about a miracle comeback, which helps us!
weird inning. i really thought that foul ball down line was gone. I don’t feel like we can afford to fall behind by more than 2 in this one.
Ok – inning over. NOW going to give boys their baths. Hopefully nobody impersonates me while i’m gone.
Does josh hamilton lead the league in thrown bats?
Geez, I’ve never seen a bat go that far
Up for the Angels in the ninth, 4-5-6, Vlad, Morales and Izturis, down 3-0.
Loved Josh and Tom’s interview with Michael Young.
Josh hurt? He was running funny.
gosh i’d love to know who made the decision at 3b today……..i really, really want to know so i can spray paint a bull’s eye on their head……….
geez i had just gotten used to having that $6mil of waste on the end of the bench and some rocket scientist thinks he needs to move davis to MAKE ROOM FOR blalock………what a completely dumber than dirt move……….
FYI: Josh does not look good…looked like he was hurting throughout the at bat and running…
Josh did look funny running. Oh well, wish I could run that well hurt
Guess not, he was running ok there.
MURPH. YARD. NOW.
I think Josh is fine. Did you see that dive (I won’t even call it a slide) into second, though? He probably knocked the wind out of himself.
other than tiger and jordan is there anymore dominate ahtlete at his sports than Roger Federer dont really care for tennis but love to watch him play
Almost!
Dang, I almost commanded that.
ryans dad, that was close.
Close Ryan’s Dad…
Pudge may be 37, but he still hustles!
Angels get shut out. Let’s go Rangers!
with everyone losing is it just me or tonight as must a win game as any
David Aardsma retired the Angels in order.
Gotta love the Young-Holland deal going on…Face of the franchise grooming is predecessor?
@Just Saying: The decision on first and third was a one-day deal. Manager Ron Washington said that he will move Chris Davis back to first tomorrow and that Esteban German and Omar Vizquel would share time at third. But, I’ll say this: You can’t just put Blalock at the end of the bench and forget about him. You’ve got to keep him involved in some respect and if that means an occasional start, it’s going to come at 1B or DH these days.
angels lose so we really need to pull this out.
Evan, I dont mind hank getting 2-3 starts the rest of the year, I just hope it doesnt become a regular thing.
@JustSaying: we are facing a RHP, Wash was getting his lefties in the lineup.
OH NO
8:17: Josh Hamilton has left the game. Marlon Byrd is in center. We’re checking.
Oh dear….this is not good. Praying…
Well I guess josh was hurt.
Is this bad? Is this bad?
wow giants announcers just bustin balls on nolan ryan……..talking about how he was a hothead on the mound and you never knew if he was going to go off on you because he didn’t like your pants…….
Ok, I know this is off topic, but did anyone hear about the practical joke that Ken Griffey played on Adrian Beltre? When Beltre came back from surgery on his testicles (after getting hit with a grounder while not wearing a cup) Griffey had his at-bat music switched to the theme from the Nutcracker. Great stuff.
@RangerFan: Young has been a Holland proponent all season. He’s the one that said back in June (?) that we should run Holland out there every fifth day and go with it.
Oh, I know scooper..just sayin I love it!
Josh was still running well. I wonder if he hurt his ribs going into second?
that’s where we’ll have to disagree on blalock………i don’t think he has ANY value left…..he’s a distraction……a waste of $6mil……..a tease with nothing left………..
@scooper: he looked like he hurt it during the a bat…
@RangerFan: I missed that. Was it on a swing?
that’s funny part time….i need humor after seeing this lineup
Since the Angels laid ten on the Mariners Monday, they’ve scored one single run in the following two games. I like that trend. They just may go cold, and couldn’t be at a better time.
@scooper: yeah…early in the at bat…can’t remember which pitch. Maybe 2-3.
at least with omar i can hope…….with hank i have no illusions and no hope……
I mentioned the other night about josh not having full range of motion from the surgery.
I wonder if he may have stretched some scar tissue and if anyone has gone thru that it can be painful and scary.
Hope it is something simple like that and he is right back.
sometimes I wonder what have we done to make the baseball gods mad at us is it because hicks still owns us if so we apologize and are trying to get help with that
Elvis has left the field!
Yes Elvis! No need for speed!
Way to go, Elvis! HR!
That was HUGE people. ROY! ROY! ROY!
AWESOME!!!
Is this guy really just 21?
Alan, the apology worked, thanks.
Yes, thanks Alan
Anyone on for Elvis’ HR? Sorry, not watching right now.
@obagain: I hope it is something as simple as that. If that is it, it won’t be a big deal. We would be in really bad shape with both MY and Josh out.
I know it’s not his normal game but if they want Elvis to do that to make up for MY and Josh being out I’m good with that.
yw welecome obagain i thik maybe they just read the story that he is about to be gone hopefully????
@PTRF: Borbon had just walked. 2-run HR.
and ryans dad
Does anyone really think that Josh would go out if it wasn’t really bad though?
@scooper: Thanks. Tack on a few more.
Has Josh ever left the lineup with something small? It seems like every time he comes out of the game it’s serious. I’m gonna brace for the worst and pray for the best.
Lower back pain for Hamilton; will be evaluated on Thursday. Listed as day-to-day, but the correct, cynical journalist response to that is: “Aren’t we all?”
@Ranger Fan: He may go out for precautionary reasons. Don’t want to make it worse if it really is something.
@RangerFan: obagain is right – if he just busted up some scar tissue, it would really hurt but it isn’t a major injury. If he hasn’t been through something like that before (remember my post last night about MY and the hammy?) he wouldn’t necessarily know what it was, so he wouldn’t know if he was really injured.
Off day tommorow will do this team a world of good
RF,if you have been thru that it feels like you ripped a muscle, it burns and feels like you cant move for awhile.
If that is it that is a good thing, as the scar tissue breaks down you get full range back.
evan I would like to think we are all minute to minute sometimes agree??
@ Leiutenant Stephon Grandbury, that is a ridiculous plan.
@obagain: I may have pulled scar tissue in my…nevermind.
Looks like a pretty good crowd tonight?
Thanks for the info scooper, obagain…hope y’all are right.
OK. Lower back pain. Could just be spasms. Could be a strain. If it was major, he wouldn’t have been able to finish the AB (and get the hit) or run the bases.
alan this is the kind of apology that builds a new wing on the school or a new parish hall or a library on campus…….this is no simple indulgence we’re dealing with………
It could be a tumor
Good point scooper…Really hope it’s not serious.
rays up 5-4 now.
let see a couple of days ago everone me inculded had left us for dead 4 out of wild and 6 in div but after tonight it could be 3.5 for div and 2.5 for wild card what other game can this be caotic and yet exciting at the same time
Evan: Who is the closer tonight? Feliz and Francisco unavailable?
what do you mean just saying?
I have never left the team for dead…and I never will. This team is full of fighters.
Extend the lead.
Nice, Nellie! Solo HR.
My new ESPN saying, “It’s never Smelly when it’s Nellie” ahh, it may need a little work
Have to think CJ’s closer tonight. I’m hoping for a deep outing from Hunter, if ever there was a night for a complete game after the DH, it’s tonight.
so the sports business journal says hicks got “5 letters” to show interest in the team…….so it cost them $0.41 for that? starting at 600 with analyst saying 500ish and i’ll bet the first number is a 4 (four)
I don’t know if Cito realizes it, but this pitcher is gassed. Let’s hope he leaves him out there a while.
@RyansDad: Let’s hope Cito stays in the dark.
Uh-oh, Sox added a run in the 7th, 5-4 Rays.
Pudge does have a crazy swing…
nice AB for pudge.
@alan a simple apology to the baseball gods is not quite enough for this franchise……in the confession booth the priest might suggest a new wing for the school, a new parish hall or if near a college a new library……..and even then i’m not sure that hicks sins don’t exceed all of the above………
brad penny 8 1/3 5 hit shutout…….wow, nice pick-up…….
Who picked up Penny again?
@JustSaying: That proves what I said last night about the NL. Look at what Smoltz and now Penny have done in the NL. They were horrendous in the AL this year, and are dominating the NL. How crazy is that?
Bob and Dan had a intresting discussion about Hicks and how we could go after Halliday and yet Kazimar and his salrary were off limits and that Hicks and company like to potray the Rangers as a small market team. The ironic thing is that we play next to Jerry world which took billions to build and we cant afford him and I hope and pray we get somebody in here that will be a smart baseball man my wish Nolan.
@Ryans Dad: SF Giants
WAY TO GO PUDGE!!!
Just looked at ESPN box. Only way I can follow the game. Surprised to see Davis at 3rd. Hunter only at 69 pitches through six. He might be able to make another two innings. I’ll cross my fingers.
Thanks you Just saying I think you put it quiet nicely
I can’t watch the game tonight so you guys are my eyes. I just heard that CD struck out again. Regardless, how does he look at the plate? Still a changed hitter? Look confident?
okay so 2 pitchers left the red sox and have do quiet nicely for the teams they have joined anyone think there might be something wrong with what they are preaching up there or is just the al and nl
it is crazy part time…….much less aggressive ABs in nl it seems to me…….i wonder if there is a huge difference in taking pitches…….nl batters always seem to be taking…….five 1-2-3 innings with only 2 KO……did hit 97 and hit the ball to the warning track……….
@Tom: He looks a thousand times better…
You have to love meaningful baseball in September. Great hope for the future. A team that loves to play.
kirkman in frisco tonight.
7 innings, 2 hits, no runs, 2 BB 6 K’s.
Game is tied at 0 so he will not get the win, that is a shame.
@dbs: It should be C.J. Wilson as the closer.
@Tom: CD looks like he did last year when he came up. Coming into today, he was hitting .355 since coming back up.
well i guess davis might be a little out of sync to look up and see his name at 3b……..stupid, stupid, stupid…………are forrest gump productions following wash this year……i luv you man but you are just killing me…..
@JustSaying: Haven’t looked at how many pitches per at bat. The obvious difference is the pitcher hitting. I’m also not a fan of bunting. I hate giving the other team a free out. NL teams give away a lot more outs. There have to be other reasons, but those are the first two that come to mind.
…he is always going to strike out some, but it is not nearly as bad as it was earlier in the year.
The throw back the homer is a huge rip off. At least wipe your rear with it before you throw it in.
Dang it Tommy…you need to get through here. I’m never for the obvious high pitch…that pudge called for. So obvious. Bad idea there.
Thanks, Guys ….
Rays are killing me. Sox have runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out in 8th.
We need to get some more on the board…bullpen is not likely to be its sharpest tonight.
Tampa is letting it slip away….
wash we’re trying to develop a rhythm…..a rhythm that would include davis at 1b……a peaceful in the zone zen rhythm……breathe deep…….deep breathing……….now very quietly move into the dugout and don’t disturb the qwan………….
@Mose21 agree great to have a pennant race but nerve wracking, Sox have runners on 1st and 2nd w/ 1 out
we’re all rooting for you tom.
Dr. Drus is squaring the ball nicely tonight.
@part time they have to “take” more pitches….some seem like they won’t swing until 2 strikes…….certainly not the rangers approach……i’m not a fan of either extreme…..to me elvis is the mold………
bases loaded
Rays have walked three in 8th. Bases loaded for Sox with 1 out.
Grant Balfour walked Casey Kotchman with the based loaded to tie that game 5-5 in the eighth, one out.
What’s going on here…CJ in the 8th?
Sorry, that Kotchman walked only loaded the bases.
If C.J. is warming up now, who will close?
I hear the wave…make it stop!!!!!!
@ Jeff Miller I think you were a little premature.
Great job Jeff scooping the Rangers booth.
Hamilton’s back pain.
If that is due to confiscatory taxes, perhaps he’ll feel better with two asprin and a call to his CPA.
Otherwise I hope he is better sooner.
Ooops, I take it back Jeff.
Wild flippin’ pitch on 0-2 count ties Sox game.
now it is tied in Tampa…Wild Pitch
J.P. Howell wild pitch has tied up that game.
Why is CJ up this early?
Guess franky’s good?
DC, pennant race, no way you hold back now.
Anybody else listening to the games on Gameday Audio think this Iceland commercial is just insanely random?
I’m not liking chances here…CJ can’t go 2 innings…and FF can’t go in the 9th. No idea what’s going on here. Not to mention bounces are definitely not going CJ’s way past 2 games…
Maybe with day off tomorrow Frankie will be allowed to pitch….It would be a surprise but the homeless man does some wierd things.
rays dont give up the lead, tied at 5 in bottom of 8th.
mose21, no way FF pitches, he pitched in both games yesterday.
Well, C.J. Wilson is in the game, Warner Madrigal is warming up and I’ve got no answers.
obagain I agree, my point was you never know with Wash…HOwever, CJ is mowing them down so maybe the 9th is possible
@tom – Davis struck out twice tonight. However, the first was on a 3-2 nasty, nasty yakker. The secon was looking on a pitch he thought was high (it was right on the border, but a good call). Didn’t chase any stupid pitches, in the ABs I saw.
What was Big Game at? 88 pitches or some such? I would have left him in until a man reached. I know the counter argument is left your reliever come in with nobody no base and a stress-free situation. It’s a tough call.
Warner Madrigal??????????
That’s all I got.
oh hell…please not madrigal…I’m sorry Evan but you need to go East Coast writer on Wash if he puts him out there in the 9th.
He better not come into this game
Who is this stranger pitching for the Rangers? I thought CJ was in town.
All in favor of Evan Grant being the Rangers manager next year say “Aye”.
great job CJ.
Tampa takes the lead back
The top 3 costumes in Arlington this Halloween?
1. Freddy Krueger
2. Jason
3. Adam Freakin Lind
Wilson threw nine pitches in the eighth inning. Best show of efficiency/timeliness by him all year. Makes me much more willing to send him out for the 9th, too.
Hunter was only at 85 pitches he could have gone the 8th.
If Evan Grant was the manager, Blalock and Andruw Jones would each start 150 games…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hello Ranger Fans… well CJ had a good 8th there.
Thanks, Jack Daddy.
I’d stick with CJ in the 9th, but I don’t think Wash has made one pitching move I would have in the last 3 games, so that doesn’t mean much.
@Tom: It’s the same CJ fans have refused to see in previous appearances. You know the one with a .220 opponent batting avg, 68 k’s in 61 innings…best releiver we’ve had throughout the year. Yeah, that’s him.
If Warner closes the game I will sell my remaining tickets.
Ok if not CJ then who?
Alan in SA, I thought you were going away? What happened?
We need some more runs here so we can have a stress-free 9th.
I’ll bet NONE of the 6 bids contained a “4″ as the first #. Or 5 or 6.
I’m not sure if Hicks and his bankers have checked, but uh, we’re in a pretty severe recession, buddy.
The slowest non-catcher in baseball, Pat Burrell, just singled in Carlos Pena to put the Rays back on top! Woo-hoo!
Tampa up 6-5; no outs
Longoria HR for Tampa…now 8-5
2-3 runs here would be nice.
8-5 rays.
Tampa 8-5; no outs in the 8th.
boston pitcher?
my hunch is Wash will say he wanted CJ facing Lind, no ifs and or buts and therefore he decided to put him at the start of the inning. Nobody on. No stress. See if he can get through it clean and run back out for the 9th.
That’s what I would have done.
Go RAYS!!!
2 1/2 and 3 1/2 here we come
I bet Tom reads the corner to see what we are saying throughout the game…
Delcarmen
Manny Delcarmen
RF, delcarman.
Blalock will go yard….
RF, I have been saying that for a while now, strange they repeat what we are saying so often.
Blalock will be 2nd out.
i’m with rangers fan……..he’s really really grown this year i think……he seems smarter and more in control of what he wants to do……..doesn’t mean he doesn’t make us wack sometimes but geez he gets $1.75 and hank gets $6 and andruw gets $20……it just ain’t right………
Mose, you must command him to go yard.
ok well i will take single….eh Ranger_Rick
wow… 2 hits!!! Amaaaaazzzzzinnngg.
Thanks guys….and Hank. Let’s go Davis!
DAVIS. YARD. NOW!
Am I fashionably late? Hey fellas. Looks like the stars are aligning for us tonight, eh?
That was a heck of a play.
Well dang…let’s go CJ! Make me proud….
tough luck Davis
Well hope CJ can save this one for us.
Nice job by the Devil Eggs to retake the lead.
Could be a nice day in Ranger land.
Again, my math showed we needed to go 20-10 and LAA 16-15.
Well (knock on wood):
Now:
19-10
16-14
See how that works? Doesn’t look so daunting now, huh?
2 outs for Tampa; runners at 1st and 2nd. New Boston pitcher is Saito.
At least CJ got a nice little break.
Hey Irish P1
Per Newberg: Lower back spasms for Hamilton, day2day; didn’t happen on slide like some reporting — winced as he backed away fr/inside pitch just b4 2b
ok, after Sunday, doesn’t CD go to first and Omar 3B for the 9th?
Off topic: Anyone have any ideas how to beat the MLB.tv blackout restrictions? I’d love to subscribe and watch the games on my computer, but I’m in the blackout area for Rangers games. I’m not interested in any other games. Any suggestions on avoiding it?
In 3
Liking the way CJ is pitching tonight.
@jack so if the first number is not four i can understand that hicks is just going to wait for them to come get him so he can visit madoff every day……..
Frankie!?!?!?
Since I know all of you love him, I thought I’d let everyone know that A-Rod picked up his 2,500th hit tonight.
obagain…you were saying….here comes frankie
Wash is trying to put FF back on the DL.
That thud you just heard was FF’s arm hitting the dirt when it falls off in about 20 minutes. I don’t know about this one…
cj mowing them down and wash brings in ff after pitching in 2 games yesterday.
@cameron doesn’t your cable provider have a package?
Jack Daddy: As much as I’d like to say Omar could play 3B for two weeks, it ain’t gonna happen. I see Davis playing 3b every 3rd or 4th game until MY returns, and he’ll split time with Hank at 1st until then. Then there’s the trade possiblilty as written on this very website….
FF?
Still 8-5 Tampa as it goes to the 9th.
You’re on a roll Jack Daddy…
@JustSaying, not a cable subscriber
I should hate the FF move, but strangely I kinda like it.
You never know what homeless Wash will do
FF trying to show the Ranger faithful his cojones tonight. Balls to the wall, eh?
Well, FF did have a low count yesterday..I think around 20 combined.
#2, #3, and #4 hitters to bat for Boston
one more pop up please
does elvis ever not have a smile on his face?
@justsayin – I think this is going to be a great book someday, when the whole story is finally told.
Its possible there are just 2 possible outcomes now:
1. this team goes to WS and the 9 extra “gates” get Tom enough money to carry this thing for another year; or
2. this goes into b/k receivorship.
I just don’t see this thing fetching 400+ in this market. Anything less won’t take care of the debt.
The lenders aren’t willing to negotiate b/c they have good collateral. Hicks is pretty much SOL on this one.
Shut up Josh…let them get the win first! GOSH!
Well… one more out.
someone give Ruiz the green light on 3 and 0
This is not good…I hated this move from the get go…
THROW A STRIKE
Was that an unintentional intentional walk? Anyone?
so much drama in this season up and down from the front office to the dugout…….how are we here? geez…….some amazing poise from our rookies………..i really think this year has to be a “jamey newberg season”…….for those that have followed him over the years this year seems like fulfillment for all the patience and a sense that the “plan” is working despite all the distractions……..
irish p1, I don’t disagree. I meant a defensive sub. for THIS 9th inning.
Whewwwwwww
@Irish: No way with a 2 run lead. You don’t want to bring up the tying run.
wow, that was close
THANK YOU! That was close!
Ballgame. And Frankie yells “NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINY CHIN CHIN!!!!”
popped him up
CJ and FF – best closing tandem in baseball
Whew!!! close one. Gain one on LAAA and maybe even Sox.
take care boys and girls, peace out
Great win, we just need to stay close to the angels and then take care of business.
hold on, hold on, hold on…
ok, now my balls aren’t in my stomach anymore.
That wasn’t fun.
We don’t die, we multiply….
Hilarious side note: Steve Busby and Conway Twitty – seperated at birth? POW POW!!!!
Alright Franky
Post-Game show coming up shortly. Be back soon.
switchingt to the Sox / Rays to see how that is goning if not over yet.
I think it’s time to put away the wild card talk. This division is up for grabs and the Rangers hold the cards!
Baltimore, here I come! I’ll do my best to drown out whatever Orioles fans are in attendance and cheer the guys on to victory. BTW, Adam Jones might be done for the year and definately won’t play this weekend.
Sox down to their final out….make that game over! Rays win!
ok ballgame… Sox lose!!!!
@jack it’s sad to me that there is no “old money” in the metroplex to step and do the right thing for their fellow citizens……..that’s why i kep calling for the bass brothers……i’m sure there are other candidates but i’m not aware who they are……and this seems like a perfect low ball buy on the cheap for the bass boys……the buyers need to negotiate with the creditors and ignore hicks………he’s defaulted and has lost his right for input……after the season if that doesn’t happen then mlb will move to energize that process………i’m a little surprised there hasn’t been more of a frankenstein castle crowd looking for hicks!!!!!!!!!
Rays win!
Rays won 8-5
Michael Young (I mean Hank Blalock) 2 hits, rbi, run.
You would have taken that from Young.
We survived the first one.
21 games left to make up 1.5 games on the Halos (in order to be just 2 out when the last week starts – the max that we can be out, imo).
Texas Rangers, Built for Fun.
Ryans: Tap on dem brakes there, buddy. This IS the LA Angels of Anaheim we’re talkin about here. Just when you think your team has a good thing going, they spout off a 12 game winning streak just to put you back in your place….
In other words, they still hold the cards as long as they hold the lead….
Tampa wins.
i’m totally in agreement with ryan’s dad
@justsaying = there is a ton of money in the metroplex that could buy this team. However, its a stupid investment, a dog. The stadium sits in the middle of the dessert. It will never make money out there.
Listen, don’t take my work for it -i’m just a working grunt that can’t seem to avoid living paycheck to paycheck. But I work for some heavy hitters that have friends in high places. That opinion comes from the money elite in this city.
I can put our beloved Rangers in this situation real easily:
remember that scene in Star Wars when Han and Luke are mowing down tie fighters in the millenium falcon? Luke gets one and yells out, “I got one! I got one!”. And what does Han yell back to him? “Great kid, DON’T GET ****Y!”.
True words of wisdom for Ranger fans….
Purchasing baseball teams is more complicated beacause the other owners have to approve the sale so it is not an open market. The rumour is that MLB and the owners will not approve a sub 600 sale because it will effect the value of their teams. It is a mess and may result in MLB taking the team over until the economy rebounds and a buyer will pay the asking price (hopefully not).
I would like to congratulate the most honorable Mr Washington, Ronald not Harold, on a fine game managed tonight. May all of his road trips be short.
irish, the angels beat bad pitching and win a few against tough pitching, If we canstay close until we play them our pitching will prevail.
cj and frankie………just the results please……just the results………..
@fox – that is most probably exactly what will happen.
@jack but that’s not an old money attitude…..you have to make the argument for the good of your fellow citizens……..it has to be someone with silly money…..
I’ll repeat what the great Jamey Newberg said a couple of weeks ago:
If Elvis played for the Yankees he would be the runaway ROY candidate. They would alredy be engraving his name on the trophy.
Good to see Beckett really struggling recently for the BoSox’s.
@obagain: and did you ever think you would hear yourself say that?
wow, the chick with the last question to Knoxie was smokin.
Old money would no longer have money if they overpaid for a baseball team by 300 million.
@justsaying – ahh, I hear you. the problem is the bass family and the nasher family have given away so much money to the arts and other charities. perot has lost a ton and is only concerned with making more.
All the “new” money in town that might be willing to take a dog for the sake of stoking a passion were P/E gusy (many of them Hicks cronies) and they have been hammered in the markets.
These are the Angels that have been on quite the tear this season. I would say an almost monumental tear. Second only to that of the Rockies two years ago, does anyone remember what happened to them when they finally cooled off and ran into some fine pitching?
Good win tonight…good chatting. See y’all later!
scooper, no I didnt, but it feels good.
the angels hear our footsteps………thump, thump, thump………
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/BobaFett42/KingFelix.gif
@Ryans Dad: I don’t think you can compare this years Angels to the Rockies of ’07. The Rocks went on a one month run. The Angels have been a good, consistent team for three months. They aren’t on a “monumental tear”. Heck, they don’t even have the best record in the league since they started their “tear”.
You right, it isn’t quite as good as I might have said.
If The Rangers jettison Blalock and trade Millwood for prospects, all of a sudden you have a $40-$50 million payroll and that is Small Market numbers. Get 2,5 to 3.0 million fans in the seats which after this season is doable and you have a good program sans deferred money which should have been previously vested….but, who knows. The program of the future is in place. This is not a rebuild. This is rake the chips off of the table time. Just don’t do anything stupid.
tom b makes a lot of sense……it sure changes the dynamic in the clubhouse…..and i think for the better…….it just doesn’t make sense to pay $6mil for a pinch hitter…..
why should you not be happy to play mlb and make 400k?
I would look at trading millwood in the off season but only if we get a good return.
Hank and jones are gone, padilla will be off the books.
Byrd will probably get a huge offer so he will be off the books.
As a buyer the rangers would be very attractive.
They still draw well, they are set up to make an extended run in the playoffs.
They have a lot of young players so the payroll could actually drop even farther for a few years.
If you are going to sell this is the perfect time to do it for max profit.
@tom b does that change to small market blueprint open up ownership to a different breed of owner? are we stuck with only a openly unrepentitent greedy basterd like tom and jerry? it is sad to me that the rangers would only appeal to that profile……another thought from east texas: who would charlie wilson pick as owner if he could pick? i’d probably blindly accept his advice……..
my son just explained in graphic detail why he absolutely hates vicente padilla……called him a piece of excrement……said he might be tempted to spit on him………and now as a dodger double hate……and my kid is a nice boy but it sounded downright gangster…….ha ha…….
Rangers are drawimg over 27k at home and 28K+ on the road. They will draw 175 million or so this season. This nice finish and bright future raises that to 35k next season. Which will put the draw at over 2.5 million. Another year of contention raises that to 40k/game. That will get you to 3.2 million or so. Average ticket at $25 for cash flow of $80 million with Ancillary at $100/game total to cover non baseball salary expenses Positive cash flow of $25-$35 Million before taxes which should wash.
