This probably marks Diamond's start to domination in Wrigley Field and coming Cy Young award with a WS match-up against Danks.

A few years ago if you'd told me that DVD would end this way I'd have been inconsolable. Fortunately, I have a few words that I say over and over to ease my pain: "Feliz, Holland, Feldman, Hunter, O'Day"....

Evan,

I noticed that the Rangers added Craig Gentry, a supposedly stellar defensive outfielder, which, when combined with his incredible stolen base mark this season (49 in 55 attempts) screams "Toolsy," to spend the final month of the season apparently as Texas's fifth outfielder over "Toolsy" Greg Golson, also considered a stellar defender. The thing that really stood out about that decision was the fact that Golson was already on the 40-Man Roster, meaning he could have been added to the Major League Roster without requiring placing anyone on waivers. By adding Gentry, as this piece reports, the Rangers wound up losing Thomas Diaomond after designating him for assignment.

So can anything be inferred from these decisions regarding Golson's future and abilities? Is it more telling about the lack of faith in Diamond's potential to ever get back on track and carve out a productive career? Did Texas think Diamond was a good bet to get through waivers? Were there just too many pitchers already ahead of Diamond, and/or too many more who would have likely overtaken him? Or has Gentry really caught the eyes of many in the Rangers' brass?

I would have been surprised if nobody picked him up. Best of luck to him. His career is far from over.
