The First Republic of Texas Football Rankings

Back in April, our dear leader, Gov. Rick Perry, made some veiled secession remarks and it made us think about all the important issues of Texas returning to being a republic. Like, how would it impact the BCS?

Would Texas schools even be eligible? Or should we just thumb our noses at the Texas-less NCAA and have our own National Championship free of those fouled up computers? Hey, it’s one way to eliminate that silly tie-breaker that the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma. So in the interest of Texas Independence, we prepare for the future with the first RP Poll. I’ll give you three guesses what RP stands for. And it’s not Rensselaer Polytech.

Jump for the poll. If you want to be a pollster in future weeks, just email me. Oh, and be prepared to document your multi-generation Texas legacy. I may be kidding about that second part.

‘Texas A&M: Did not allow over-matched opponent to reach end zone. And it’s the Gov.’s alma mater.’

On a related note, A&M fans engaged in a most bizarre celebratory act that may impact the breeding patterns of College Station sheep for years to come…
    Back to you John, Gloria…

As an ACU grad, it’s nice to see the Wildcats get some love. Now, if they just didn’t have to play in a high school stadium . . .

  • Matt

Fake Dale Hansen is really clever with his insults.

  • Ralphie

It is only a “silly tie-breaker” because the Longhorns lost that one. No one called it “silly” prior to the season. And since it was voted to remain in place, the consensus still says it isn’t “silly”.

  • In memory of Paul Kix

No Southlake? What kind of bogus poll is this?

  • Silly Ralphie

Ralphie, let’s be honest, it’s a pretty silly tie-breaker. It makes more sense to drop the lowest ranked team from the three-way tie, then decide which of the remaining two teams goes based on the head-to-head results between them.

  • Brian

It was the 6th tie breaker, not the first. Someone was going to get screwed, and that was Tech. Get over it, Texas.

  • JB

    Stick to baseball Evan.

  • Ralphie

Why is the BCS somehow more qualified to select the worst of the three team, than they are to select the best of three teams?

Again, consensus (all the schools) agreed this was the best BEFORE the season, and again (11 out of the 12 schools) AFTER the season.

Everyone is wrong but Texas! Right? LOL!
