ARLINGTON – The Rangers don’t expect OF Josh Hamilton back in the lineup until the start of next weekend’s series against the Los Angeles Angels – if then.
Back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins of Los Angeles gave Hamilton a third epidural injection Friday to relieve pain associated with a pinched nerve. He also told Hamilton to rest the back for several more days. GM Jon Daniels said the Rangers intend to give Hamilton time to heal and called a return before the Angels series “unlikely.”
Asked if 3B Michael Young, who was doing some running on his strained left hamstring Friday afternoon, might beat Hamilton back to the lineup, Daniels said: “It wouldn’t surprise me.”
Young has said he hopes to be back in time to play the entire Angles series. Young suffered the hamstring strain on Sept. 1. Hamilton left a game early the following day and initially indicated he was confident he wouldn’t miss time with the injury. A first epidural injection provided little relief, so Hamilton had a second on Monday. He told Rangers officials he received more relief from the second. It’s uncertain if he can receive yet another injection this season.
In the meantime, the Rangers must simply wait. While Young is slowly getting back on the field, Hamilton has been unable to do any real physical work since the injury.
I’m guessing Hamilton is done for the year. If two cortisone shots haven’t helped, it seems unlikely a third one will.
They’re giving a bunch of drugs to a junkie??? Wow. Did they fly him out to L.A. for the shot or did the Doc fly here? Are two more flights of about three hours good for his back??? What the heck is going on here? He is done…after so much time without playing wouldn’t he normally need some AA or AAA time to get back into shape? They’re shut down.
I’m pretty sure if Josh was flying out to Cali that it was done on Tom Hicks private Jet. I doubt they made him sit in coach on an American Airlines flight!
No surprise. I told everyone that the intitial news was bad and not to expect him anytime soon. The additional injection was pure overkill. If the first two and rest didnt do the job, but Dr. Watkins wanted to be paid, so what the heck. I’m not writing off Josh for the season, but I’m not at all surprised he is still out and wont be surprised if he is indeed done for the year.
I he doesn’t make it back before Oct, I hope he will have the simple discectomy and then focus purely on strengthening his core during the off-season.
I would say he is effectively done.
