Week 2: Rick Perry Republic of Texas Football Poll

RepublicsealObviously, these rankings are going over like Kanye West at an awards ceremony. Exactly one person volunteered to be a pollster (and, thank you for the offer). I wasn’t kidding. If you want to vote and you’ve got way too much free time on your hands, like I do, contact me. Also, I could use more email.

We’re moving forward one way or another. It was a big week in the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry. Sure, Houston pulled the big upset, but why can’t Texas A&M (OK, A&M-Kingsville) and Angelo State get in on the act, too?

7 TCU NR 1-0 B. Virginia, 30-14 v Texas State One ACC school down for Frogs, one to go (Clemson, Sept. 26).
8 Abilene Christian 3 3-0 B. &M-Commerce,  20-14 (OT) v SE Oklahoma State Dropped from third, but still ranked second among Texas schools with “Christian” in name.
T9 A&M-Kingsville NR 1-0 B. Central-Okla., 46-17 v NE State A state school beats Oklahoma school, shouldn’t it earn a ranking?
T9 Angelo State NR 2-1 B.  SE Oklahoma, 55-10 @E. Central Hey, did you not the previous comment? Duh!

    My friend and I were racking our brains about Texas College. Couldn’t for the life of me figure out where that was. Which of course got us thinking about Texas State, which used to be Southwest Texas State, which got us thinking about Necessary Roughness. So it was a good moment.

    @Beesley: The SFA score against Texas College sent us in the press box at rain-soaked Rangers Ballpark scrambling for our google goggles. Nobody knew a thing about it. FYI: It’s in Tyler.

    Not too sure about Texas College either, but sure am proud of the alma mater for pulling back the reins and not putting 100 on the chaps!

    Greatest thing about that 92-0 beatdown? Look at the time of posession. It’s like the Lumberjacks scored on EVERY SINGLE PLAY….

    Where’s the love for Tarleton State? They’re 3-0 having beaten 2 Oklahoma teams and 1 Arkansas team. Of course, there is that A&M affiliation…

    I grew up in Tyler and while I kenw it was there, I never met anyone who went there.

    I’m not sure if it still is, but I think it used to be an African-American college.

    After a little research, Texas College is a traditionally black college that is in Tyler and has been around since 1895. Maybe they are still using some of the same players from that innagural season?

    I used to work for the Tyler newspaper. I covered Texas College a time or two. Interesting thing about TC: Hank Aaron’s wife attended school there. I actually met Hank at an even at TC. Very cool.
