flyingfish36:30: The home run pool is up and running. Also, we’ve got words from and video of Michael Young talking about his early return from a hamstring injury.

7:16: The Rangers are pushing RHP Kevin Millwood back to Monday, meaning the veteran won’t pitch against the Los Angeles Angels this weekend.

The Rangers will instead go with RHPs Tommy Hunter and Scott Feldman and rookie LHP Derek Holland. Even though Holland has struggled recently, too, the Rangers like the lefty matchup vs. the Angels. Holland pitched a three-hit shutout at Los Angeles in August, but is 0-4 with a 13.50 ERA in his last four outings. Pushing Millwood back gives the Rangers a chance to let him get in two extra bullpen throwing sessions in addition to the two he has already had.  Millwood said he’s “definitely” getting something out of the extra work, but also was disappointed about not pitching in what figures to be the biggest home series of the season.

7:24: Maybe I’m biased because I’ve covered the guy from Day 1, but I thought Michael Young should have received a standing ovation upon stepping into the batter’s box tonight. Young is taking some risk with his hamstring, but the Rangers need an injection of energy. There should never be any doubt that this guy is willing to sacrifice his body for a chance to win. Some in the relatively small crowd did stand, but I think it was worth a full-fledged Standing O.

7:29: Eight pitch at-bat for Young before he flies out. I think it’s pretty clear he’s not at 100 percent. Besides his own admission, there is some body language that suggests he might occasionally feel a twinge. But it’s a good, long professional at-bat.

7:40: Simply can’t walk in a run, which is what Brandon McCarthy just did in the second. He allowed three walks around a two-out single to force in a second run. Also, seems to be very deliberate on the mound. Wondering if he’s feeling some physical issues.

7:52: 61 pitches through two innings for McCarthy. Not going to make it through five at this pace.

8:00: There was a question in the comments about Tom Hicks. There was news involving Hicks yesterday. Out of England, where HSG-owned Liverpool has sold the shirts off its collective back for approximately $134 million. The British press wanted to know where that $134 million would go. They were assured it would go into the club’s operation and not back to “Dallas and Montreal.”

8:07: Young’s comeback lasts one at-bat. Nelson Cruz on deck.

8:09: No physical setback for Young is report from clubhouse. After one at-bat, he feels it best if he wait another day or two.

8:22: As it appears yet another game may be slipping from the Rangers’ grasps, you are left with these options: Turn off TV and spend time with family … or find stuff like this to kill time. I’ll give you a couple of minutes to use it on your own and then we’ll plug in some Ranger names. Me? I’m Graven Ant.

8:33: Rangers end scoreless streak at 22 innings on David Murphy’s leadoff homer in fourth.

8:57: Rangers are 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position tonight. Can’t make the playoffs playing non-playoff caliber baseball. They are 2-for-25 with RISP on this homestand. Big fail in the fifth was Nelson Cruz popping out to first baseman in foul territory with runners on second and third and one out.

9:05: You know you are having a bad day when Happy Hour doesn’t even make you feel better.

9:51: Two men on, no outs in seventh. Julio Borbon grounds out and Nelson Cruz strikes out. Rangers are 0-for-9 with RISP tonight and 2-for-27 in the homestand.

MY’s my main man–go Rangers! This team seems to have become emotionally down when either Young or Hamilton have go down injured. Let’s hope that Mike’s return gives everyone else a charge and that Mike stays healthy.

  • Ranger Fan

Evening All! Pumped Young is back! FSSW has Omar playing SS tonight. Here and DMN has Elvis…who’s right? Hope Elvis is in there!

  • Evan Grant

@Ranger Fan: Guess it’s pretty clear by now, but it is Andrus. You should always trust the Corner! Except when we are wrong.

  • obagain

Hey guys, my connection has been rained out so I havent been on in a while.

  • obagain

man, we cant keep giving them extra outs.

  • Callie

McCarthy already struggling – can he make a quick adjustment?

  • Callie

McCarthy already struggling – can he make a quick adjustment?

  • Callie

    weird..

  • obagain

1 run is not exactly struggling but he could be a little better here to start.

  • scooper

McCarthy isn’t doing particularly bad. We just need to stop giving them extra outs (thanks, obagain!).

  • obagain

now a 5 run inning here would be a good start.

  • Callie

The score doesn’t represent how lacking his command was in the first. He was really up quite a bit. Plus extra outs didn’t help the guy any. I think he’ll adjust now that he knows what will work for him tonight though.

  • Ranger Fan

    2 errors in an inning…that hasn’t been a common occurence thankfully…

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

I gotta say that it’s impressive as heck that MY is back so quickly. I just hope he doesn’t re-injure it and be done for the season.

  • scooper

You have to know that MY only came back because we are desperate. He knows he can help, even if he isn’t 100%. The problem with that is that a hamstring injury is nothing to mess around with. There is a huge risk of re-injury when you come back too early. However, he knows we need him, so he is back.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: I feel like it’s a desparate times call for desparate measures.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

    @scooper: I agree totally.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

The easy solution is for him to just hit HR’s every at-bat. Then he doesn’t need to run. It worked for Kirk Gibson.

  • scooper

    @PTRF: That’s a lovely idea!

  • Obagain

Well the Internet is down again so I only have my iPhone
I will not be posting much because it is a pain.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

    Thanks, Scoop. I’m always thinking.

  • alan

okay ? for evan what is our longest shutout streak in regards to innings in thier history at this rate we could put the a’s rotation in cooperstown anyone want disagree with me

  • Ranger Fan

If Andrus doesn’t win Rookie of the Year…it’ll be a joke. There’s just no one out there that’s been better or more important to his team than Elvis.

  • JT

Pretty disgusting site at ballpark….so quiet you can hear the chiming of the ticket scanners….maybe 5000 ppl here…..comeon ppl….rangers have been basically giving away tix for couple months…we’ve bought the “dinger ” special….the half price special, the inside corner special, etc….tonight we here for free from the all star game….great weather….no reason NOT to be here

  • Evan Grant

@alan: Through the first, the Rangers haven’t scored in 20 consecutive innings. The record streak is longer than that, I believe, but I don’t have anything at my fingertips with that info. Right now: Me=stumped.

  • alan

okay at the rate this offense is hitting giving up more than 2 runs and it is game set match

  • Ranger Fan

I’ve been at 20 games so far this season so I don’t feel bad for not being at the game tonight. I think there’s more than 5,000 there though judging my crowd shots.

  • Ranger Fan

McCarthy meltdown in progress…my worry is not the offense.

  • alan

Did anybody hear the discussion on the ticket today about the crowd last night their take on it was that the team gave up because their was no energy from the crowd and that after a couple of runs they were like whats the use of trying and that even though they may be thinking that they should not say it pubicly ie kinsler on friday and the team thinks that that the fans arent really behind them really good disscussion but the way we are playing tonight woh could blame them for not coming out

  • Evan Grant

7:40: Simply can’t walk in a run, which is what Brandon McCarthy just did in the second. He allowed three walks around a two-out single to force in a second run. Also, seems to be very deliberate on the mound. Wondering if he’s feeling some physical issues.

7:52: 61 pitches through two innings for McCarthy. Not going to make it through five at this pace.

  • scooper

@alan: if the players are using the fans as an excuse (which I don’t think they are), then this team doesn’t deserve to go to the playoffs.

  • Evan Grant

@I’d say there are about 13,000-15,000 folks in the stands tonight. Disappointing for a team that is in a playoff race.

  • Jeff Miller

Red Sox getting to Lackey in the sixth, ahead 2-0 with the bases loaded and one out.

  • Ranger Fan

When was the last time Tom Hicks attended a game and sat in his seats? I haven’t seen him there in forever…

  • JustSaying

giants offered $10 tickets for the 10th man versus the rockies so i’m taking my son to that one and see if zito can find his curveball………..

  • Evan Grant

@Ranger Fan: Was here Saturday during rainy night. He’s been kind of scarce since having hip replacement surgery.

  • Ranger Fan

I’ve been impressed with Zito recently. If the Giants can get in and have Lincecum, Cain and Zito going…look out.

  • Jeff Miller

Lackey struck out Lowell and Kotchman to get out of the sixth down only 2-0.

  • DC

Hicks was at the dh the other night saw him on tv.

  • scooper

@RangerFan: if you were Tom Hicks right now, would you go out to the ballpark? I’m not sure that I would. I would probably consider it more of a distraction than was necessary.

  • Callie

I think you pull Mac at the first sign of adversity. Cant afford to give up on this game so early in.

  • Win's Dad

EVAN: At Sunday’s game I noticed that Tom Hicks was walking with a cane. He also looked noticeably thinner. Is there a health issue there?

  • Ranger Fan

@Evan: oh, was at that game. Didn’t see him though. Did he stay out in the rain with Nolan? Speaking of fans…the team should have made at least some comments about fans sticking through it. Granted not a large number..but those that were there sat down by the field in the pouring rain in a 5-run game. And hasn’t attendance been up by a pretty good amount this season?

  • Obagain

Saying the fans are the problem is just the ticket being stupid.
If the players need 20k plus to play a game for real then we might as well give up.
What the fans have done this year is impressive.
The turn out was there early and if the team wants 20 k plus they need to go on a big win streak and the fans will be back.

  • Evan Grant

There was a question in the comments about Tom Hicks. There was news involving Hicks yesterday. Out of England, where HSG-owned Liverpool has sold the shirts off its collective back for approximately $134 million. The British press wanted to know where that $134 million would go. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/sep/14/liverpool-standard-chartered-bank-sponsorship

  • Ranger Fan

Nice inning. Top of the order coming up.

@scooper: No, but I would have sold the team long before now.

  • S. Arcasm

so what is the record for scoreless innings for the Rangers offense? How close are we? 20 innings at least so far….

  • Evan Grant

8:07: Young’s comeback lasts one at-bat. Nelson Cruz on deck.

  • scooper

@RangerFan: I think Hicks would have been happy to have been able to sell the team. 2 problems: who is going to buy it and MLB has to approve the sale (and they won’t sell low because they do not want to devalue other franchises).

  • scooper

    Not good for MY.

  • Evan Grant

8:09: No physical setback for Young is report from clubhouse. After one at-bat, he feels it best if he wait another day or two.

  • alan

my gosh please I beg the baseball gods to not lets us be shut out by the a’s again please please

  • obagain

So why did they move elvis back to 9?
Why not let him hit 3rd?
He has a 16 game hitting streak and is rewarded with going back to 9th while the team has not scored a run in 23 innings.
Another one of those head scratchers from wash.

  • Ranger Fan

Lewin just said close to a sell out for Saturday…if we can get some wins should be an awesome atmosphere this weekend.

My thughts on players calling out fans: Shut up. I’m the biggest Ian Kinsler supporter there is but it infuriated to hear his comments. There have been some awesome crowds this season, particularly in the Boston series and Angels series. Not much mention then. But you want to get on the fans for not coming? Yes, there should be more fan support. But realize, this has been a decade of mediocrity. Casual fans will not flock when you’re 4-games out just because it is a “race”.

    Young out. Not good.

  • albtead

MY is out, wind I think if officially out of sails. Guys no matter what happens from here on out it has been one hell of a ride this year. I hope they have the perseverance to maintain and reach the playoffs but I am extremely proud considering where everyone thought we would get to watch this year. I feel like we are a starter and a good strong right hand bat away. Lets hope that Hicks sales in enought time to allow JD to make the additions that we need to make.

  • JustSaying

Only Baltimore and Cincinnati drew less last night. Keep the faith, it will improve when hicks and crew have departed……..they’re busy sending out resumes so no time to do any more promoting……..

    Monday, September 14, 2009

    Arizona 4, at San Diego 2 20,265
    at LA Dodgers 6, Pittsburgh 2 42,045
    at San Francisco 9, Colorado 1 31,307

  • Ranger Fan

So actually, MLB is to blame?

  • Ranger Fan

Should have taken him out after last inning.

  • alan

if we get some wins wins hec we cant even score and the more this play continues the more you give people excuses not to come out whether that is right or wrong

  • Evan Grant

@Alan, @S. Arcasm: News on scoring futility streak. The longest in Rangers history is 28 innings from July 13-15, 1972. They are currently at 22.

  • scooper

on the sale, to some degree, yes MLB is to blame. They are not going to OK a fire-sale price, and who has the money to pay $500-$600 million to buy a team?

  • scooper

    …in this economy.

  • JustSaying

and when the padres are drawing 20k from the cellar and rangers draw 13k while contending makes me think rangers price tag won’t come near padres…….

but i do hope the new owner can stop the radio-tv contract….isn’t that the main conduit that hicks used to siphon off money from the franchise? who knows the details of that?

  • JT

Well, this is my 12th game of year and it feels completely dead in here

  • Ranger Fan

@just saying: I thought the Rangers had a good TV contract. What would change?

@scooper: The Rangers aren’t worth 600-mil in any economy. Weren’t they valued at around the 400 mark last year?

  • obagain

JT, if the rangers score a run the place will wake up.
As of now what have they had to cheer about?
    MY got a good reception.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

Not that it means anything, but I saw a financial “expert” the other day talking about money and sports. He said that he doesn’t expect the Rangers to get sold before next season starts. Said it is going to be very difficult to sell them right now.

  • scooper

@rangerfan: I honestly don’t know what they were valued at last year.

  • Ranger Fan

@scooper: I think I remember it being around 420 but I could be wrong about that. I do remember it was about middle of the pack.

  • alan

okay I hate admit it but I almost want us to go for the streak hec my thinking is if you are going to go down might as well do it in flames and waht better way to do it then est a record

  • DC

Forbes had them at 356 mil this year.

  • scooper

    @evan: I’m Chop or Reason

  • Doug

Why was Nelson Cruz – the Rangers best healthy hitter — not in the starting lineup? Doesn’t it seem like a critical game for a struggling lineup to have it’s best hitter out of the lineup? What’s up with that?

  • Ranger Fan

Well, there’s the season. This team won’t come back from a 4-run deficit. They are lacking 2 of their top players and can’t make up the difference without them.

  • DC

    Nm thats last years price.

  • Evan Grant

@All: It may be time to play with the anagram finder.

    http://www.deanjackson.dj/nameanagram/index.php?n

Try to figure out you these are:
    In Rank Lies
    Now OK Vile Mild
    Now Snaring Hot
    O Junior Blob
    I’m an Ugly Echo

  • JT

    Murph should have gotten that

  • The Beer Guy

@Doug: Not sure it matters really at this point. It’s just about all she wrote I’m afraid.

  • Jeff Miller

Red Sox will take at least a two-run lead into the ninth.

  • alan

note to Ranger fan I appreciate you trying to find a silver linning in a otherwise shinking ship but I dont think this team could score with them in it in fact they couldnt hit water if they fell out of a boat figuratively speaking but otherwsie keep up the positive material

  • alan

note to Ranger fan I appreciate you trying to find a silver linning in a otherwise shinking ship but I dont think this team could score with them in it in fact they couldnt hit water if they fell out of a boat figuratively speaking but otherwsie keep up the positive material

  • Ranger Fan

    The streak is no more…

  • Hambino

    Edgar “Cy Young” Gonzalez

  • The Beer Guy

And this is just indicative of much of the year, especially since the ASB. Getting 1-hit by some no-name average-at-best pitcher. Hard to maintain that it’s mostly the pitcher at this point, isn’t it?

  • obagain

See, the crowd can get into it if they have a reason.

  • alan

sorry didnt mean to double post

  • Ranger Fan

@alan: I still ask myself why you watch Rangers games every time I read one of your posts.

  • scooper

    @RangerFan: me, too.

  • Hambino

I’m tried of the Solo homers…..example Cruz has 31 with only 70 RBI’s

  • Callie

@RF – I ask myself why he doesn’t use punctuation. But right behind that question comes “why does he watch”

  • alan

come on guys I half to be honest sorry thats just my nature love the rangers but no offesnes I want them to win just as bad as I do every time I watch the horns play but my dna from this team is so use to bad results it is hard to overcome

  • obagain

hambino, that is better than 5 HR and 15 rbi, I will take runs any way they come.

  • The Beer Guy

Well there we go! Maybe the bats are coming around now (sorry Gonzalez, no Cy Young for you this year apparently).

But still, don’t you all think this incredibly streaky batting needs to be addressed? First, the question “why?” needs to be answered. Why do they get shut down too frequently by pitchers they should hit?

  • Hambino

    Meant tired

  • alan

okay look so now we half to be grammar perfect on here I half to be perfect at my job can I at leat let my guard down on here?

  • obagain

beer guy, the offense has to be addressed in the offseason and some guys we like are going to have to be moved to make that happen.
The question will be will the owner ok taking on payroll to bring in a couple of bats?

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@alan: You don’t have to be perfect. I’m not even going to mention the fact that you keep saying “half” instead of “have”. However, puncuation helps us understand what you’re trying to say. It is difficult to comprehend run-on sentences.

  • Jeff Miller

Boston has added another run in the eighth off Lackey, who was finally pulled after 120 pitches. That’s his second-most this season, behind that 131-pitch loss to the Rangers in early August.

  • Callie

@alan – nope, perfection not necessary. I didn’t mean to imply you needed to be grammar perfect.

  • obagain

alan, if we had to be perfect I would have been banned a long time ago.
It is a fun blog, dont worry about little missteps.

  • alan

Same difference Part time like I said this a blog not a grammar contest. what does it matter?????????????

  • JT

Who is “Fernando”??? Long sign on 3rd base line saying “where’s Fernando?”….tatis? Valenzuela?

  • Brian

I’m at the game and I’ve been to funerals that are more exciting and louder than tonight at the Ballpark.

  • Iharttherangers

Let’s put things in perspective. If in march I told everyone that the Rangers would be playing in September with:
    1. Hamilton hurt and having missed at least half the games;
    2. Young hurt and out of the lineup;
    3. Kevin Millwood pitching so bad that he has been skipped;
    4. Padilla (per some folks the 2nd most important ranger going into the season) released and pitching for the dodgers;
    5. Your rotation having feldman holland hunter mcarthy and nippert;
    6. Andruw jones having been benched since late august

everyone would have said that the rangers season went VERY wrong this year and wash was probably fired and jd was hanging by a thread. But… We have played some meaningfully games in sept and still have a sliver of hope!!!

  • alan

its cool like I said guys just relax this is where I come to vent and I want this team to be the best in the world but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be well what a duck sorry

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@alan: You’re right. I was just busting chops. Sorry. Now I’ll give the microphone back to you and let you keep on with your acceptance speech.

  • Callie

@alan – I’m sorry. I was only teasing you but shouldn’t have. You are right, it doesn’t matter. We are all fans here giving our thoughts in our own ways.

  • Ranger Fan

@alan: Horns fan…so much is explained by that. ;)

  • obagain

    Lets test your assertion brian.
After the first pitch of the next inning stand up and yell even rules and I will LYK if we hear you on TV.
If it is dead you should come in loud and clear.

  • scooper

@PTRF: at least you must be happy! Your (main) team is doing great!

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@scooper: I’m happy for the most part. A little worried about the pitching (mainly AJ Burnett), but it’s hard to be too nit-picky right now.

I have my plane tickets and hotels lined up for the ALDS and World Series. Hope I need to use the WS trip. Will sell the ALCS tickets to pay for the other two trips.

  • Hambino

Hopefully my cy young comment reversed the jinx…lol

  • obagain

Strange to pull him that fast.

  • scooper

@PTRF: Now that’s planning! Good for you!

  • alan

so we arent horns fans here huh well I am a diehard a nerd actually a big enough one to pay to watch a payperview game anyways go rangmers

  • The Beer Guy

@PTRF: Crazy that you can get so much for one set of tickets to pay for the other two! Now that’s the playoffs in a city that really cares about baseball.

On a similar note, I was watching the LA-Boston game (NESN Boston feed) on MLB.tv before the Rangers game came on, and an ad played encouraging fans to log on to MLB.com to buy tickets. Ha! To Fenway? Aren’t they sold out until 2037 or something??

  • The Beer Guy

@Alan: Dear Lord man no, I’m not a Longhorns fan (I’m an Arkansas fan…that’s like asking God if he likes Satan!) ;) I miss those games, though. Wish we still played.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@scooper: I’m excited. Should be a fun October. Taking a buddy with me to the ALDS who has never been to NY but always wanted to go. His dad was a big Yankee fan and never got to go to Yankee Stadium, and he passed away early this year. This is like his way of honoring his dad.

  • JT

Ok…not good move to bunt right there…2 on no outs….top of order coming up…and it got us NOTHING!!!!

  • Lamar in PA

I really don’t even know what to say about that. As a Ranger fan, it’s such an unfamiliar experience to have it be the offense that’s flushing the race that it’s kinda surreal.

  • alan

true beer guy werent we supposed to play sometime in the future

  • Jeff Miller

Red Sox won 4-1 for their sixth straight. Papelbon worked the ninth in a non-save situation and gave up a run.

  • alan

here some positive material we had two on an no out but didnt anything else happen I will let you guys say

  • scooper

@PTRF: I’m just waiting for the day when we can have that kind of fun October!

  • Evan Grant

8:57: Rangers are 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position tonight. Can’t make the playoffs playing non-playoff caliber baseball. They are 2-for-25 with RISP on this homestand. Big fail in the fifth was Nelson Cruz popping out to first baseman in foul territory with runners on second and third and one out.

  • The Beer Guy

@Alan: Yeah they did have some games planned, but I forget what happened…I think maybe one game was cancelled because of a hurricane down there, and then they couldn’t figure out how to make it up. Now Arkansas plays A&M instead.

  • Hambino

WTF who gave Murphy the green light 3-0

  • obagain

nice positioning by wash on that one.

  • Hambino

I never thought I’d say I’d rather have the A’s lineup over the Rangers

  • Callie

I’ve actually thought for a few games that our positioning was off, and thought the same thing in this one on a couple of plays.

  • Evan Grant

9:05: You know you are having a bad day when Happy Hour doesn’t even make you feel better.

  • Ryans Dad

    Evening all. Sigh.

  • Hambino

Thank you Rangers for passing the time until Mavs season got here, I never thought that would happen

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@Evan: Are the anagrams that you posted earlier all Rangers?

  • The Beer Guy

lol, there goes TAG giving all the credit to the A’s for being just too darned tough to beat. Come on! Sure, they’re hot, but it’s ALWAYS a two-way street. Our crappy play is enabling their good play. Be realistic.

  • Ranger Fan

Good thing Rangers players are harping for attendance just in time for them to tank.

  • obagain

Why is it the wash pulls mccarthy after giving up 2 runs but sees feliz doesnt have it tonight and yet he allows him to get lit up?

  • Ryans Dad

Right now, I think the Mariners have a better chance of catching the Rangers than the Rangers catching the A’s. I think we are witnessing Tampa Bay West.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@The Beer Guy: You have to give TAG a little bit of a break. He’s probably followed the organization longer than anyone on here. Didn’t he play for them when they were in Washington? Imagine the frustration he’s endured over 40+ years.

  • Ryans Dad

    oops, meant Angels

  • scooper

@PTRF: yep, Tom was with the Sentaors.

  • Lamar in PA

@Ryans Dad: bearing in mind that we haven’t even lost 3 in a row yet, can you imagine just how painful that race-chucking losing streak has been for Rays fans?

  • The Beer Guy

@PTRF: Oh I do give him a break. It’s not as though everything I say about him is negative. But a break doesn’t mean a permanent free pass. I’m sure he said that to be a good broadcaster and keep the morale up for viewers. Irritating to me at this point, though.

  • Rangerette

I’m going to mix a drink. I’m not the hottest woman on the planet but I’ve never gone 0-7 with players in scoring position. Bottoms up, boys.

  • obagain

RD, we are doing a good job of catching the a’s also.

  • The Beer Guy

Re: Tampa, agreed that must have hurt. Talk about monumental collapses. The only difference being, of course, that at least they have a very recent World Series memory to enjoy (even if it was a loss).

  • Ryans Dad

@Evan, what is Pudge’s catcher ERA since coming to the club? Did we get blinded by our love for this guy?

  • S. Arcasm

if Kinsler and the Rangers want the seats filled for a playoff run, then they should play like it. If you get shut out two games in a row by lower tier teams, and continue to struggle against weaker teams, then understand why the hordes aren’t too excited about you. thanks for giving us fans a season to enjoy more than any other in a long time, but right now it doesn’t feel like or look like a playoff run.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@The Beer Guy: I understand. Just pointing out that as frustrated as you are he must be even more so. Doesn’t make it any easier on you though.

  • Lamar in PA

The question I find myself asking right now is what’s the chance of rebooting the 2008 versions of Hamilton and Kinsler next year?

  • Ryans Dad

Not his most dominating effort, but probably Neftali’s best “pitching” performance since coming to the club.

  • Evan Grant

    @PTRF: Yes, all Rangers fans.

@Ryans Dad: Pudge’s catcher ERA was 4.21 (as a Ranger) coming into the game. No, not blinded by “love for him.” It’s simply been a very bad week for all the Rangers. Playoff teams end up showing you why they are playoff teams (I’m looking at you Boston Red Sox with your six straight wins). The Rangers are showing they are a good young team that still has growing to do.

  • Ryans Dad

Ok, I can live with that.

  • The Beer Guy

@PTRF: No worries! Hey the great thing about sports is that there’s always next year (well, unless one dies, in which case it doesn’t really matter I suppose…)

@Ryans Dad: You know I actually had the same thought earlier today…for all the offensive struggles of Teagarden, could something be said for not changing horses so late in the game? I dunno, just wondering.

As for the rain theory, I totally agree with Josh. I really think this past weekend (back to Thursday) totally took the wind out of the sails. Too many off days, delays and getting out of routines.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

Brawl between Yanks and Jays right now. Jays threw behind Posada in retaliation for one of their players being hit earlier. After Posada came around to score he said something to the pitcher (Carlson) and they started going at it.

  • Hambino

Kindler will just blame it on the fans

  • obagain

evan, but isnt it the vets that are letting us down, not the young guys for the most part?

  • Hambino

I would jump for joy the next time I see Kinsler hit a groundball even if it’s an out

  • Ryans Dad

I’m going to trust Evan and all his fancy stats. I just have seen a lot of balls flying into CF, dropped/missed tags at the plate, and several times bobbling the ball. Not to mention the double plays he’s grounded into. I guess it’s just the age of the man and it’s like watching Jordan playing for the Wizards.

  • obagain

posada threw a weak elbow at the pitcher after he crossed the plate, the ump threw him out and then the benches cleared.
posada should get a lengthy suspension for that.

  • JohnnyMel

Here at the game and it sure looks like the Rangers are about as apathetic as the fans tonight. At least Murph has been hustlin’.

  • Josey Wales

Not sure if anybody has noticed but Chris Davis is currently rocking an 8 for 42 (.190).

  • obagain

hambino, kinsler grounded out earlier this game.

  • Evan Grant

@obagain: Been a bit of everything. Feliz, for example, was not good at all tonight. That I blame on not pitching for seven days. Holland hasn’t been good in this stretch. The entire team has simply played poorly and these are things that show up in a pennant race. Somebody separates themselves.

  • Ryans Dad

@Josey, is he leading the team in hitting in that spell? I’m serious, I really don’t know.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: I’m sure Posada will get suspended, but if you watch the replay the pitcher was going to back up behind home plate and he purposely paused right in the path of Posada. Jorge then gave a little elbow to his glove as he went by.

  • Ranger Fan

And during those stats he’s saved at least 10 errors. I’ll take that. Hank’s probably worse than that…and brings nothing to the field.

  • scooper

Evan’s right. Playoff teams know how to win these games against teams like Seattle and Oakland, especially at home in September. All year, we’ve had too many losses to teams with worse records than ours. We can’t blame injuries because everyone has had them and the good teams win anyway. But this experience will be good for the team.

  • Callie

@Josey – what is everyone else hitting in those 42 ABs?

  • Evan Grant

@Ryan’s Dad: Pudge is 37. He’s not the same player he once was, but right now he offers the Rangers their best option behind the plate. Maybe if Salty was healthy, it would be a different story, but the Rangers went out and got Pudge because of the injury to Salty. And even when he was an MVP, Pudge hit into a lot of double plays.

  • obagain

posada made contact when there was no need and then after being ejected he came back onto the field and challanged the pitcher, that is a major no no.
He got hit by a pitch but the yanks had beaned a few of the other team also.
At this time of year those things get magnified.

  • Ranger Fan

I would be shocked if MLB came down with a stiff suspension on Posada. A veteran Yankee…it won’t happen.

  • Ryans Dad

Jordan was 38 when he came back to play for the Wizards, that was a better comparison than I originally thought.

  • Hambino

Damn can’t believe I missed the ground out… The world will now come to an end

  • obagain

RF, you are probably right but he should get at least 10 games.
Most because he came back out.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: I agree about him coming back after being ejected. That will not be looked upon kindly be the league.

As far as the Yankees hitting the Blue Jays batters, one guy got hit with a changeup and one guy with a fastball. Both pitchers that hit batters are call-ups that were in for mop-up duty. They both have big control problems. I don’t thing either one was intentional.

  • Ranger Fan

    Oh I completely agree…but I just don’t think he’ll get that.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

I predict 5 games for Posada.

  • obagain

Probably 5 and they do it tomorrow so he can start serving them against TB.

  • Ryans Dad

I guess the rub for having the 9th or 10th best team in the league is that the let down is the same as say the Nationals, it just happens a whole lot faster.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: It’s not always about intention. If batters are getting hit…their pitchers will retaliate.

  • Josey Wales

    Ryan’s Dad -

Don’t know about everybody else on the team but Tiny E has been a significantly better hitter than the older and more veteran corner IF Chris Davis.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: They don’t play TB. They have TOR tomorrow, then 3 with SEA and 3 with LAA. They need him back for the games against the Angels. Fighting them for home field.

  • obagain

RF, especially at this time of year with a division rival.

  • scooper

TAG should tell Josh that those that have it don’t have to dream about it.

  • Ryans Dad

He is a Daisy Ms. Wales

  • Ryans Dad

    oops, meant Mr.

  • obagain

PTRF, sorry got caught up and ment tor.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: You’re right. I’m obviously biased, but if I’m being honest then Jorge was completely out of line. He had every right to be mad, but you can’t lose your head like that. Especially at the risk of getting injured right before the playoffs. This wasn’t the usual baseball screaming match. There was a lot of physical contact. Girardi has a mouse over his eye and a cut on his ear. The pitcher has a welt on his head. A dangerous situation for a playoff team to be in.

  • Josey Wales

    Who is a daisy?

  • Ryans Dad

It’s been 23 minutes since someone posted about anything happening in tonights game. That should tell you how bad this is.

  • Ryans Dad

    Little E

  • Buck

    It’s rally time, guys!

  • JT

Is it really necessary to show the “give him the boot” graphics when we are down by 5????

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: Yep. Not smart. But really…I don’t think there’s any team that can compete with NY in a series. They’ve successfully purchased another ring, most likely.

  • DC

Elvis has had the best ab’s of the whole team most the year.

  • Evan Grant

9:51: Two men on, no outs in seventh. Julio Borbon grounds out and Nelson Cruz strikes out. Rangers are 0-for-9 with RISP tonight and 2-for-27 in the homestand.

  • Callie

I think the Cards can take the Yankees. Carpenter, Wainright, Pujols, Holliday. Yeah, I think they could at least make it interesting.

  • DC

    0-10

  • Ranger Fan

I think the Cards could give them the most challenge…but I don’t think enough of one to win. There’s no way their lineup 1-9 competes with the Yankees.

  • Buck

Is the team just worn out? I think they have enough talent, but in Sept they just seem to be going through the motions…

We get the first two guys on, no outs and we can’t score. What is up w/ that???

  • Buck

2-for-27 w/ RISP tells a lot. MY typically delivers in those situations. Maybe the lack of a veteran bet is a gap???

  • Callie

@RF – I hope they can take em – I hate the Yankess with a passion that I cannot begin to express. It’s like flames, on the side of my face, leaping heaving breathing flames. No offense PTRF.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: I love the “purchased another ring”. I read all the time on here that people are upset that the Rangers have to have such a tight budget. If the Rangers had the money to spend wouldn’t you want them to get the best players they could? It’s within the rules to spend as much as you want. The Yankees spend more than anyone, but they still turn a profit. As a fan what more could you want from your owner? Once you put together the best roster you can then the players still have to go out and perform. Not always as easy as it sounds.

  • Ryan

Now maybe everyone will stop talking about how “resilient” this team is. Starting with the Minnesota series the Rangers will now be 9-9. That is underachieving baseball for a team in a pennant hunt. Everyone is getting resilience mixed up with choking.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@Callie: No offense taken. Hate away.

  • scooper

When Hamilton and Young went down, Marlon stepped up. Some of the other guys hit OK, but Marlon was really the one. Now Marlon has cooled off and no one else has stepped up. And the pitching and D have not been as good.

    Nice tag by Elvis.

  • Ryans Dad

@Evan, what are your thoughts on the Rangers hiring Wash over Don Wakamatsu? I’ve never heard your take on that?

  • Ranger Fan

Well that’s a humerous way to put it Callie. haha. Clearly, no love lost between the Yanks and I. Actually not sure the level of respect I have for them…

  • Ryans Dad

PTRF, please refrain from injecting rational thoughts and truisms when discussing the Yankees. It really p##ses me off.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

    @Ryans Dad: I appologize.

  • obagain

PTRF, most fans agree with you but baseball let teams like atlanta, chicago and NY have huge TV deals but wouldnt let the rangers do the same.
That is a huge unfair advantage that needs to be corrected.
Also, the last time I looked you could take the bottom 5 teams in payroll, put them together and the yankees still have a higher salery.
That rubs people the wrong way.

  • Callie

@RF/PTRF – it’s a butchered quote from the movie Clue. Anyway, I respect Brian Cashman and his work putting a team together, but I have a problem when the average fan can no longer go watch a team play because of the cost – even in NY. And I personally think there should be some controls on salaries. We’ve gotten out of control with payroll, and for that I blame Hicks and the A-Rod debauchle.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: I firmly believe there should be cap restrictions in baseball. It won’t happen but I believe that’s what is best for the game. But honestly, let them but all the players they want. I’ll take 1 championship with a team you watched grow up together over 10 with players that ocme and go. Now if we could just get that 1…

  • Ryans Dad

Imposing price controls and spending limits is Tyranny people. It’s the kind of stuff our fore fathers fought to free us from.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: How did MLB prevent other teams from having better TV deals? I have not heard of that.

Again, if the rules allow you to spend as much as you want then why wouldn’t you? As long as you’re still making money. Sorry if it rubs people the wrong way, but I’ve also heard a lot of people bash the LA Clippers owner (Sterling) because he doesn’t spend money on his team. Same with the Bidwells and the AZ Cardinals. Which way do you want it? Owners don’t spend money and keep it to themselves, or put money back into the club and put the best team out there that you can?

  • obagain

There is another ground out for kins.

  • Chad

Nice to see Ian running hard to 1st base……Great effort, Ian……Good grief…..Has Ian already packed it in this season too?

  • scooper

I think that would make him the biggest UMPIRE (not just home plate) in the majors.

  • obagain
  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@Rangers Fan: The thing is that the Yankees don’t buy one or two year players. They usually sign guys to long term deals. So you get to see guys stick around for a while. Also, do you realize that Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, and Rivera are all products of the NY farm system? As well as Melky Cabrera, Brett Gardner, Robbinson Cano, Phil Hughes & Joba Chambelain?

  • Evan Grant

@Ryans Dad: I thought three of the candidates were very strong: Washington, Wakamatsu and John Russell (now managing the Pirates). If it had been up to me, I was still probably going with Washington because I thought the Rangers needed a change from the previous administration. Don Wakamatsu would have been a very good manager here, but I thought the club needed a fresh breath from somewhere else. I thought Wakamatsu would be perceived as just an extension of Buck Showalter. In retrospect, that is wrong. Wakamatsu has proven to be nothing like Showalter. He’s his own man and he’s becoming a very formidable major league manager.

  • scooper

You can’t blame a team/owner for doing everything possible within the rules to put a winning team on the field. Ideally, everyone would do that.

  • KevinJ

I was an Ian Kinsler fan until I started hearing him on the Ticket. The more I listen to him the more he comes across as someone that has a bunch of skins on the wall when he has done nothing. When questioned about his slump, people saying he’s trying to hit a home run every time up, he said that his job is to try and hit a home run every time up. If that’s his attitude then they need to fire Jaramillo. A batter’s job is to get on base. If they happen to hit a home run, fine. But Kinsler sure has been popping up a lot. Why not try going with the pitch every now and then. Now he’s being critical of the fans after it rained for 35 hours straight? Sad. He needs to look in the mirror. This team looks like it’s done. Dandy Don’s warming up the vocal chords.

  • Chad

Nice to see Wash giving up as well……Pulling Byrd for Gentry?????

  • scooper

By the sound of it, I’m glad I haven’t heard Ian on the TICKET.

  • Chad

    Evan,
Since the offense is gone, why not see if Blalock can provide a spark? He’s done it a couple of times this year…..

  • Callie

    @scooper – I can spew my irrational jealousy-based hatred any time I want. Don’t tell me I can’t..
    :)

  • Ranger Fan

Yes, I do realize. But do you honestly think they are where they are without CC and Tex? No.

  • Chad

I still think Bobby V may be managing this team next year…..

  • scooper

@Chad: it is the top of the 9th and Byrd batted last inning. I don’t think that is giving up.

@KevinJ: Did Ian actually say that it is his job to try to hit a home run every time? Did anyone else hear that?

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

Yeah, scooper. Lay off Callie. Oh, wait. You were backing me up. Sorry.

  • Ryans Dad

That article illustrates the narrow thinking and exclusivness of the MLB owners. It’s what made baseball a second and soon to be third tier sport. The NFL owners fought Jerry Jones tooth and nail over a similar subject. Turns out, what is good for the goose is in fact good for the gander.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: I think CC and Tex have had a huge impact. Do I care that they were free agents and not “home grown guys”? Not in the least.

  • scooper

I know, I know! Sorry Callie! I’m just being irrational!

  • obagain

PTRF, put your bias away for a minute, if jeeter were on the rangers does he get 1/5th the publicity he does as a yank?
He will probably be in the HOF but does he really belong there?

  • Ranger Fan

Ian’s sarcastic. And he never said it was his job to try and hit a homerun every time up. He said it’s a hitter job to look for a pitch they can put a good swing on (hit hard) and put it in play…I’m already on record for not being a fan of his comments regarding fans. But he didn’t say it’s his job to try and hit homeruns.

  • Ryans Dad

@ Scooper, it’s a running joke, said tongue in cheek about Ian confessing to trying to hit a homer every time he’s up.

  • scooper

@obagain: he doesn’t get the pub (or the rings), but he still gets the hits and he is still a winner. Maybe more like MY.

  • Callie

OT – let me just say that as much as I hate Florida, I can’t wait for them to stomp Tennessee into the ground this weekend. I am an Arkansas fan like someone else on here.

  • Ranger Fan

@scooper: Here’s the link there they discuss the subject.

    http://www.bobanddan.com/Ian%20Kinsler%20July%2024.mp3

  • Chad

It is giving up when you tell your team, “i don’t have any faith in you scoring 5 runs this inning, so I’ll put in a AA guy.”

  • scooper

@RangerFan and RyansDad: Thanks! I was getting worried there for a minute! Sarcasm I understand.

  • Ryans Dad

@OB, WOW, DID YOU REALLY SAY THAT? Of course he is good enough for the HOF.

  • Chad

    Great effort, guys……

  • obagain

    scooper, that is the point.
MY has no shot at the HOF but if you switched teams MY would be a first ballot selection.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: First, I just got the article to open. I agree with Ryans Dad. That article shows the stupidity and narrow-mindednes of the owners at the time. Also, that was the other AL owners that wouldn’t allow that, not MLB.

As far as Jeter belonging in the HOF, there is absolutely no doubt! Why do you love MY? Is it just the stats, or is it some of the intangibles? Jeter has so many leadership quailities and intangibles that it’s impossible to quantify. If MY had led the Rangers to 4 WS championships he would be a no doubt HOFer. Every manager and GM in MLB would say Jeter is a 1st ballot HOFer.

  • Ryans Dad

How many 3,000 hit players are currently not in the HOF? Jeter will be there by 2011.

  • obagain

PTRF, the article shows that the AL owners, especially NY(gee I wonder why?) would not let the gaylord group purchase the rangers because they were scared they would have an unfair advantage, how ironic that NY now has that same unfair advantage.
If baseball had a problem with the AL owners they would have stepped in, they didnt because they wanted the yanks to continue with their dynasty.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: that’s the point…if Young was in NY and did the things he’s done in Texas..people say the same thing about Young. HOF.

  • scooper

@obagain: but Jeter does have the rings!

  • DC

Baseball is going to snob themselves out of business with how they try and control ownership. Gaylord and Cuban are just 2 of many times they said no.

  • Ryans Dad

I’m sorry, but I don’t think Young is as good as Jeter flat out. I’m sorry, please don’t hate me.

  • DC

    RD he’s not.

  • obagain

RD, will MY make it in if he reaches 3000?
I dont think it would be first ballot, they would make him wait a few years.

  • Ranger Fan

He’s probably not. But he’s not far behind either.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: I’m sorry, but you’re being a little irrational tonight. Thinking that MLB wanted the Yanks to “continue with their dynasty” is rediculous.

  • scooper

MY made himself into the player he is today. If he had been in NY from the start, I think he would have risen to the challenge.

  • Ryans Dad

Dunno, ask yourself this though OB, if the Yanks offered a straight up trade Jeter for Young and would eat Jeters salary, would the Rangers take it? I believe they would.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

How good is Jeter? He is one of 6 players in MLB history to have at least 2700 hits, 1500 runs, 220 HR’s, 300 steals and 1000 RBI.

The other 5 are: Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Ricky Henderson, Willie Mays & Paul Molitor.

  • Ranger Fan

@Ryan’s Dad: Uh no I’m not taking that. Young has more left in the tank.

  • obagain

RD, is he a better SS? Yes, is he a better player? I say no.
MY has been an allstar at 3 positions, when he has had a chance in the AS game he has come thru.
He has been one of the most feared hitters with RISP thru his career.
He has the best pitching staff money can buy.
He has the best hitters money can buy.
Is he a great player? Yes, there are a bunch of guys in the hall I dont think should be there.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

Jeter is one of those guys that isn’t flashy, but is consistent as hell. Plays hard every day, plays injured and doesn’t use it as an excuse, leads by example, etc. MY actually is very similar. Do I believe MY deserves more national attention? Sure. Is it Jeter’s fault that MY doesn’t get attention? Nope. You can’t fault Jeter for playing in NY. He puts up the numbers and rings. You can’t say Jeter doesn’t deserve the accolades just becuase MY doesn’t get it.

  • Old Tom

Elvis said it best. Jeter is a winner. He has the make-up every team needs and his stats are clearly HOF. OK, I won’t be rooting for him, but he’s clearly at that level.

  • scooper

    @PTRF: Well said!

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: Coming through in the AS game is now the benchmark for success?

  • Ranger Fan

It’s not to say he doesn’t deserve it. It’s just the question of if he’s not in a NY, Boston, Chicago….he doesn’t get as much. If Young does he get tons more? Yes.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: Again, I think you’re letting your frustration for MY not getting more national attention cloud your judgment.

  • obagain

PTRF, stats can say anything you want.
He has the rings but the yanks should have the rings with anyone at short.
He is a leader but it is way easier to be a leader on a winning team than on a loseing team.
I would not trade young for jeter even if we didnt have elvis.
jeter has been playing 15 years and is closing in on the end.
Young could have another 6-7 years of prime hitting left.
Look at the stats and you see that they are almost identical in every catagory but steals.
Yet jeter is a lock first ballot and MY is not even in concideration.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@Ranger Fan: I agree. If MY plays in NY he gets a ton more attention. However, I repeat that you can’t use that as an argument that Jeter isn’t great.

  • scooper

    ‘Night, all!

  • Ranger Fan

Jeter is one of the best to play the game. e deserves the pub he gets. That doesn’t mean Young doesn’t deserve more. If the Rangers win…he gets it. That’s the bottom line. Like it or not…you have to win to get the pub.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: I didn’t suggest that you trade Young for Jeter.

Also, on one hand you’re telling me that Jeter doesn’t deserve to be in HOF, but Young does. Then you’re telling me that their stats are almost identical. Hmmm. Which is it?

You also can’t say that they “should have the rings with anyone at short”. That’s an assinine statement.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: I agree 100%. Young deserves more. It’s not his fault he doesnt get it, and it’s not Jeter’s fault MY doesn’t get it.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: Yep-That doesn’t change the fact that I take Young over Jeter any day. But I also won’t be blind to Jeter’s greatness. Heck, he and Rivera are probably the only players I can respect on that team.

  • obagain

PTRF, I hate the hypocracy of one player being put in the HOF because he gets more press while similar players are not even mentioned in the same league.
I also laugh at teh guys that say if you put ichiros numbers in japan he would have over 3000 hits and should be a lock first ballot guy.
Using that logic than warren moon is the greatest player to ever play QB, if you add hid numbers from the canadian league.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: Do you take Young over Jeter because of age? What if they were both in their prime?

  • obagain

PTRF, the reason I put MY in the hall is because you put jeter in.
I dont think either should be but if young continues like he is and matches jeter than how can you put 1 in but not the other.

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: Yes, age. Do I think defensively Andrus as the chance to be better than Jeter? Yes, I do, but I guess that doesn’t factor in this convo.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: The Ichiro discussion doesn’t come into this at all. The simple question was: does Jeter belong in the HOF? The answer is yes.

  • obagain

PTRF, if they are both in their prime I take young because he has proven he can play 3 IF positions at AS level, so he is much more versitile.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@RF: I’ll tell you right now that Andrus is a better DEFENSIVE shortstop then Jeter ever thought about being.

  • obagain

PTRF, then do you put in young?

  • Ranger Fan

@PTRF: Agree…I do think Andrus will be very solid offensively throughout is career. Maybe not Jeter…but dang good. He’s an all-star, gold glove shortstop. Can’t wait.

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

@obagain: Most SS in the league could also play 2nd and 3rd. SS is the hardest of the defensive positions. I thought MY was an outstanding SS. I’m not saying MY isn’t versatile because I think he’s great, but the Yanks have never needed Jeter to swich positions. If needed he probably could.

In the end I think they are very similar players. I couldn’t reallly make an argument for Jeter over Young except for the rings, which I understand isn’t Young’s fault.

@obagain: If Young keeps putting up numbers at the pace he is now for another 6-7 years then he deserves to be in HOF.

Here’s the difference. If Jeter retired right this minute he’s a HOFer because of the rings (and stats). Young needs to get to 3,000 hits to be in. Which I think he’ll get to if he stays healthy.

What if the young guys come thru and he wins 2 rings in the next 5 years?

If Young keeps up his pace for six more years he’ll have about 2,900 hits, 1400 runs, 1200 RBI, 240 HR and a .300 average. Get to 3,000 hits and I think he’s gotta be in.

So is anyone paying attention to Justin Smoak over in the World Cup? Yikes…5 RBI today. Tied for the tournament lead. Impressive.

RF, smoak is killing the ball for team U.S.A. but I want to see him do it for the rangers next year.

That’s a good question. Does he retire in 5 yrs? If he has two rings and is the leader on those teams then I think he gets in. I know you’re comparing him to Jeter, but 4 rings carries more weight than 2 rings. That’s why I’m hesitant. Again, if he gets to 3,000 hits with 2 rings than he’s a lock.

To make it clear, I love Young and think he’s one of the most under-rated players in the game. I wasn’t trying to disrepect Young during this discussion at all.

  • obagain

But if jeter played in the mattingly era, would you still put him in?

  • Part Time Rangers Fan

I think he would need to put up the numbers he’s been putting up for another couple of years to be in. That’s assuming his mere presence didn’t bring them a couple of rings ;)

  • obagain

PTRF, I understand you are not disrespecting young just like I am not disrespecting jeter.
You are putting weight on rings, which is your right to do.
I dont give the rings much weight because of the huge advantage the yanks have.
With the team the yanks buy each year they should have more than 4 rings in the last 15 years.

@obagain: I do too…Should be interesting next year to see where he starts.

You were disrespecting Jeter (“they should win the rings with anyone at SS”), but that’s another discussion entirely.

I’m not the only one that puts emphasis on rings. Everyone in the game does. Also, the teams they had in the 90′s weren’t “bought” rings. Most of their players weren’t high priced free agents. Had a lot of home grown guys. They didn’t start spending wildly until the 2000′s.

Also, your comment about the fact that they should have more than 4 rings with the money they spend shows that it isn’t just about “buying a ring”. The spending sprees put together some bad “teams”. Great individuals, but not good together.

I stood and cheered for MY’s lone at bat. I also hated life the rest of the game. As streaky as this team is, I think it’s time to go on a major run… Let’s NIP this drought in the bud..
