ARLINGTON - Expecting a packed house this evening. Michael Young and Josh Hamilton remain sidelined. Young didn’t take batting practice and said he’s unsure when he’ll return Hamilton is expected to resume baseball-related activities on Monday. Both will be on the trip to Oakland. And Kevin Millwood is scheduled to start Monday night’s opener of the four-game series against the A’s.
All pressure is off. We are not going anywhere. It’s back just like it was on the sandlot. Have fun!! Let’s beat the Halo right off of these impostors. It’s a good lineup with an excellent pitcher for the Rangers so let’s kickback and have some fun while entertaining “The Sea of Red.”
So… I’m in town for the first time in about 2 years, and it’s lunch time… where do we go?
I had the Grits and Gumbo at the Flying Fish – and next time will bring my big mouth billy bass for free food.
@last – angry dog. best burger in Dallas and very cold tap beer.
I promise – only post of night:
With Pudge behind plate, our pitchers have not been pounding the zone as much. I don’t think he got the memo.
If you have a “redout” or whatever, shouldn’t you do it against a team who wears green or blue or purple or something OTHER than red?
A RUN!!!!! THEY GOT A RUN!!!!!
One of the world’s shortest RBI doubles ever.
Well… its about time!!! Good evening all. Hopefully this is a good sign.
At the end of the day all they will see in the boxscore is that Chris Davis hit a double to drive in Nelson Cruz.
That lead didn’t last long.
I think this is the slowest I have seen it here this year.
Either everybody is at the game or they’re watching college football or they’ve given up.
Finally, some offense! It would be really nice to be able to enjoy the last couple weeks without the pain and misery of getting shutout every night!
andrus will win al roy
I told my ex-wife that she could have custody if the rangers make the playoffs.
Gone!!! Thank you Hank. Finally
At least they are showing a little life.
That was Blalock’s first homer since Aug. 8.
They really need to bring this one home. I’m hoping to get the win total into the mid-to-high 80′s (90 wouldn’t hurt), if for no other reason to restore the sense going into the offseason that we’re headed in the right direction. Since this group of players will be mostly back next year, I don’t want to be headed to spring training as “the team that forgot how to win”.
Yea, its sad how he has tanked in the last few years. I know injuries haven’t helped. I hope he can get on with someone else and rejuvenate his career.
WHAT THE HELL?!?!?
Good call, this is exactly the kind of management of the starting pitchers I’d like to see more of from RW.
anybody have a clue what Wash is thinking? Better yet, does he have a clue what he is thinking?
Less than 100 pitches, in control of the game – yep, great call Wash.
Very nice play Kins!!!
and now we pull oday
Watching on Gameday….Feldman isn’t hurt? Are the TV guys saying anything?
Just like they drew it up in the game plan for this game. Pull your starter and then need a spectacular play to get out of the inning…
Still wondering what Wash was thinking…
I guess Evan even quit on us… no in game updates yet.
Mike – they’re kinda stunned like the rest of us.
better a batter too early than a batter too late.
No he wasn;t hurt. In fact, he looked very surprised that he was pulled. But that’s Wash… overthinking with stats. O’Day nearly coughed up the lead if not for Kinsler on that last play.
Yeah….if Feldman wins out, he’ll be at 20. You’d kind of like for him to pitch as deep as he can to control his own fate. If he was aroun 110, I’d understand. At least let him finish the 7th.
@Mike in Reno: No, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Feldman. He melted down in the sixth inning last time. My guess is with him needing to win tonight to remain eligible to win 20 games … not to mention if you believe the Rangers are still in post-season contention … Washington is being very careful.
Not only a great play by Kins but Andrus made a fantastic catch.
@Ruffian, as I mentioned, I don’t agree. I think that Feldman has tended to lose it in a hurry in the middle innings and after getting lucky on a great play for the 2nd out, Maddux must have thought that Feldman was out of gas. I respect RW coming with the hook perhaps a tad too soon rather than letting him get himself in trouble the pen can’t get out of as he did in his previous start. We’ve got some good late-inning relief that hasn’t been able to do anything for over a week, better to hook the starter too soon rather than too late as RW’s been doing a lot the last month or so.
@Jeff…thanks for the response. Good call on melting in the sixth. Maybe that was his motivation.
if we win this game it’s b/c Mercy Me is playing and God is watching.
@Lamar – perhaps, but the way things have been going lately I don’t like tempting bad karma. Took a web gem to get out of trouble.
@Ruffian, yeah, I don’t think if you could have seen the next two batters ahead of time, any of us would have made the move, but it struck me as the right one at the time and it did work out.
Just b/c this is a slow night and Darren Oliver is pitching, I’ll throw this out. I met my wife 15 years ago. Oliver started for the Rangers on either our first or second date.
First date, the Rangers lost to Todd Van Poppel and the A’s. Second date, we beat the With Sox, but can’t recall who pitched for them.
On August 12, we got engaged….and MLB players went on strike.
@Jeff – So your thinking is that Wash made the move to preserve Feldman’s chance at 20 more than the Ranger’s chances at the post-season?
@Mike: good story. Oliver started the first Ranger game I saw in person (a loss in Baltimore), but I didn’t meet anyone there and as such remain single to this day
Comeon CJ, get out of this here.
@Ruffian: I think Washington’s first priority will be to keep his team in the races until they aren’t.
ok, 2 run jack here by Murph….
@Lamar…thanks. We’ve been hitting HRs since ’94. It’s been great. Our first three or four dates were Ranger games. Our honeymoon was in Colorado (we saw Rockies/Padres less than 24 hours after hour wedding in Texas). Now we live on the West Coast and ave been to every California MLB park.
Keep hanging in there. You’ll find the right kind of baseball-lovin’ woman.
@Jeff – me too. Just wasn’t sure with how you presented the argument….
I believe an attempt to start the wave has been hooted down by those paying attention to play.
Good, the wave is so annoying to listen to.
C’mon Frankie – bring this one home!
Shut ‘em down FF!
@Mike: from your keyboard to God’s ear
@all: wow, forgot what taking a lead to the 9th felt like. It seems more like 20 straight losses than 5!
Hey, you guys have got a Ranger Lead with some of the other guys missing in action. Remember who you are. We have to use this I.C. line-up again in a bind. Hold On Rangers. We need this one for everybody’s sanity.
@Lamar…..lol
can’t walk Vlad here…
Whew!!!
Pick me up off the floor!
Chris would have made that play… at least for one out.
Sorry Hank – that’s why I like CD at 1st…
Ouch…
Man, what is it with RW refusing to make substitutions for Blalock at 1st?
Well Blalock cost us the game.
You have to put your BEST DEFENSIVE players in place for the bottom of the 9th with a one run lead.
Even the TV guys are questioning whether Wash had the best defensive alignment out there…
No way they walk in this run.
Thank goodness…. come on FF
Oh my god…
Ballgame… !!!
As a great man once said: “The Rangers win! The Rangers win! Oh, my God, the Rangers win!”
Breathe… just breathe…
Sweet!
They really needed this win… and I think this will help them tremendously in finishing out the year on a positive note.
Wash is a genius!
Mike in Reno – that’s cool. I took my wife to one of Pudge’s early starts. Good to see you have a good baseball woman there!
Happy for the team. Good for them.
It ends the streak of consecutive losing seasons, at least.
It is things like that which Wash sleeps thru that I just cannot understand. Good Guys WIN this time. Maybe it will start something good.
46,596 now that is a crowd worthy of wooing.
Good Show, Rangers.
Hank came through. He is a streak hitter so he could get on a roll and carry this team through the end of the season. I just woke up, what did I say? Nothing crazy, I hope.
“Ol’ Hank never done it this a way.”
Simple fact: Wash is not good. Clearly, I’m glad that the Rangers won, but by not putting Davis over to first and Vizquel in at third almost cost us the game. That bobble by Blalock could have easily been a double play or at most one out.
This is just not the way you play winning baseball.
