7:05: 3B Michael Young is hopeful he can return to the lineup on Monday as the third baseman after being limited to one at-bat over the last four weeks by a hamstring strain. Young ran the bases on Saturday without issue. It’s the first time he’s run the bases since aggravating the hamstring injury on Sept. 15. Young said running the bases isn’t a problem, nor is pushing off when he swings. He aggravated the injury by landing on it during his one at-bat.
“When I come back, I need to be able to play third base,” Young said. “Being the DH doesn’t do us any good. That just means somebody else is going to have to sit. Right now Josh [Hamilton] is the DH and Nelson [Cruz] is having to sit down.”
7:16: Manager Ron Washington said he kept Nelson Cruz out of the lineup for a second straight day because he “thought the lineup we put out there [Friday] did a pretty good job and I wanted to keep it like that.” Cruz is in a 4-for-30 slump.
Asked to evaluate Cruz, Washington said he sees a player with a lot more maturity, but one who still has a some distance to go.
“I’ve seen his focus fade a little bit,” Washington said. “It’s been a good lesson for him.”
7:22: Kevin Millwood escapes serious trouble after allowing the first four batters to reach. The old 1-2-3 (pitcher-to-home-to-first) double play made it possible. I love the old 1-2-3, the most sequential play in baseball.
7:25: Citing wear and tear issues, Washington also said he’d like to move Josh Hamilton out of center field for 2010. The question is who would play center. The obvious choice: Marlon Byrd, but is a free agent and its uncertain whether he will return. Washington said if Byrd does re-sign with the Rangers, he will likely be the regular center fielder. The wild card: Julio Borbon. Borbon has lots of speed, but Washington is concerned about his ability to read fly balls and an erratic arm (demonstrated by a wild throw to third from left field in the first inning). Borbon will play center for Aguillas in the Dominican Republic for a month this winter to help hone his fielding. Last year, Borbon played left field for Aguillas.
If the Rangers are eliminated from the playoff chase, Washington said he will likely give Borbon a look in center during the final few games of the 2009 season.
8:41: Angels down quickly, 2-0, against Oakland. Rangers and Angels entered tonight with identical records for September: 12-11. That’s the hard thing to understand. It seems like Rangers haven’t made up any ground because they haven’t played well. A 12-11 record without Michael Young and Josh Hamilton? Not too shabby.
8:56: I’ll ask again: How can the Rangers let Marlon Byrd leave this winter? The only thing that would make it worse is for Byrd to walk in free agency and for the Rangers to bring Milton Bradley, who essentially quit on teammates once it appeared hope for a playoff spots was lost.
8:59: Ron Washington is often questioned for when he takes guys out of games. So, I’ll flip the question: What do you think Tampa Bay fans are saying right now about Joe Maddon’s decision to let Matt Garza stay in the game after Marlon Byrd’s two-out grand slam?
9:07: Rangers tie season-high for runs scored in an inning with eight thanks to six consecutive batters who have reached with two outs. They also had eight on April 15 in a 19-6 win over Baltimore.
9:17: 11 runs after there were two outs. Just another amazing moment in a season full of unlikely, unusual moments.
9:37: Starting to hear some chatter that the potential ownership group out of Houston, headed by Jim Crane, is not a viable option. Hearing that the bid for the club was to low to be considered realistic. Crane bid low on the Chicago Cubs, too. But don’t think that it’s only the Pittsburgh group led by Chuck Greenberg, which may count Nolan Ryan among its investors, and former agent Dennis Gilbert. This remains a fluid situation. Much depends on current owner Tom Hicks’ desires.
9:49: Is not looking good for gaining ground tonight. Despite the 11-run fifth and Oakland’s early lead on L.A., Angels scored six in fourth and now lead 9-2. Rangers could win and essentially still lose ground tonight. Angels would reduce magic number to three with a win.
What a win tonight would mean is that the Angels can’t clinch the AL West outright before the Rangers can get to Anaheim. All the Rangers would have to do is sweep out there to keep hope alive – however slim that hope may be – until the final weekend of the season.
10:05: Thanks to Ranger_ve who reminded me that tomorrow, Ranger players will be greeting fans at gates around The Ballpark as part of fan appreciation day. The players should be scattered around the park from about 12:30 until 12:50ish.
11:28: A’s just pulled something out of the Rangers’ bag of tricks. Scored six runs after there were two outs in eighth. Once down 9-2, they now lead Los Angeles 15-10. This could end up becoming a VERY important night. All of a sudden, Angels are reminiscent of a very old team trying to hold off a collapse.
Nelson Cruz — hurt? in the doghouse? sitting to get his head straight in the midst of a slump? no longer part of the future? something else?
@ AJM not a wash guy would be my guess.
@AJM: Answser coming up. Bottom line: He’s in a slump. He’s 4-for-30 over the last nine games and hitting .146 over the last 14 games. Yes, I would say Ron Washington seems to pull him quicker than other vets. Remember, though, Cruz is a veteran of parts of several major league seasons, but this is first full year.
Uh thinks are quickly falling apart…
7:16: Manager Ron Washington said he kept Nelson Cruz out of the lineup for a second straight day because he “thought the lineup we put out there [Friday] did a pretty good job and I wanted to keep it like that.” Cruz is in a 4-for-30 slump.

Evening all, Let’s go Rangers
7:25: Citing wear and tear issues, Washington also said he’d like to move Josh Hamilton out of center field for 2010. The question is who would play center. @Evan: What kind of player could we get with Cruz and a mid-upper level prospect. (I mean not a big time prospect but a good one..not sure how to say that!)
@Ranger Fan: I think coming of a 30-homer season, Cruz’s value will be at its highest. You might be able to swap him for a right-handed hitting DH type. The Rangers are short on right-handed bats. But here’s the thing: What right-handed DH type would be a better option than Cruz?
@Evan: As far as bats go…I’m not sure. But I just kind of get the feeling the writing is on the wall for him. If anyone gets to sit…it’s him. To me it’s been pretty clear, he’s not a Wash guy. Plus he’s likely to be a DH next year especially if Hamilton goes to RF. …what kind of pitcher could we get?
Evan — Haven’t the Rangers been saying that CF defense is a priority for about a decade or so? Marlon Byrd is not a good defensive CF’er.
@Evan—I really like Cruz but a better RH/DH would obviously be someone who Wash wants and would let play since he clearly plays favorites so much..
Abreau is a f/a…how much would he cost?
@RangerFan — Given that the Rangers’ biggest problem this year has been hitting, why would you want to trade one of their best hitters for a pitcher?
sorry…Abreu is LH but he still can hit
@AJM: Because this team still lacks a big time starter. And because it seems fairly obvious Cruz won’t be here. Where does he go?
Borbon
Murphy
Hamilton
Byrd (Maybe)
If Byrd goes…I think Cruz stays. But honestly, do you look at our rotation and feel like is a playoff-contender rotation?
@AJM: And because Cruz sits a lot for a big-time bat. If he’s going to be one of those guys the manager just doesn’t trust…you might as well trade him when you can get the most for him.
I don’t think an outfield with Marlon Byrd as the starting CF is a playoff-contender outfield.
@AJM: I don’t have issue with Byrd’s defense in center field. I’m not looking at any metrics. I just think he does an adequate job out there and does not cost the team runs. And whatever the metrics may say, Ron Washington believes Byrd to be capable.
@Alan in SA: So, give me the more affordable right-handed option. My contention there isn’t one that is measurably better.
looks like a small group here tonight. according to the standings on espn the Rangers have a 1.1% chance of winning the division and .1% chance still at the wc. still some hope to be had with both teams ahead of us slumping
Davis has regressed at the plate it looks like.
If Hambone is going to be a “Core” player, he needs a big AB here.
This has not been going well. Where are the RBI police when you need them?
Millwood is giving up almost a run per inning so far. That should get worse in the next few innings as he tires. Now would be the time to pull him, if these games are eyed as crucial, but Wash nver pulls Millie until he has put the game out of reach.
Yeah, Wash’s hesitation with the hook with Millwood has been frustrating, although we’ve seen him treat Hunter and Feldman the same way this week when they had nothing.
The Rays TV announcers have been asking for 2 nights why Hamilton is playing. They are saying he is not using the bottom part of his body and is just using his arms and flailing at the ball. They think he is far from being healthy and wonder what the point is in him playing and possibly hurting himself further.
It is a slow night at The Depot. Quite slow.
We’re on pace for about 50 comments tonight. Wow. Don’t people realize that the Rangers are about to do something historic by making up 7 games in the last 10 games of the season?
@Evan–I think you and I are on the same page..I like Cruz and think he could be a very good player..he’s obviously a late bloomer but a lot are..my point is that I don’t think Wash likes him and unfortunately, his opinion is worth more than yours and mine
@Evan: the perception problem with the Rangers’ September has been that those 5 games when they totally stopped scoring were such an eternity of fan misery it felt like they lost 30 in a row.
@PTRF: Adding to that history, they’ve got to make up 8 games in 11 to actually make the playoffs, since there’s still a one-game playoff between them and the Division Series in that scenario.
@Lamar: Excellent theory.
@Alan in SA: Can’t argue what you are saying, but I don’t think Washington wants to run Cruz out of town. Think he’s just raised the bar on expectations for him over some other guys. Why? Not entirely sure.
F’in A Cotton, F’in A
Ha! And I just mentioned here last night that I couldn’t remember the last Rangers grand slam!
It is a game of emotions for young players. Byrd gave it after Hamilton took it away. RISP and BINGO was his name.
I am a huge fan of Hamilton, and wish him well, but I kind of get the sense he will be glad when this season is over. I expect great things from him next year.
@Lamar: Good point about the one game playoff they’re going to win. Unless, of course, they also surpass the Red Sox during this historic run and there is no need for the one game division deciding playoff. In that scenario the Rangers and Angels both go to the playoffs, and whoever had the best head-to-head wins the division with the other being the wild card. Wow, what a great week this is going to be.
It’s hard to comment when you’re working with the radio and gamecast scenario…ps- Buzz is pretty good on the radio..actually I like him on TV too.
@Evan…how much do you think it’ll cost to sign Byrd
and on a related note, do any of the rumored buyers for the team have really deep pockets?
8:59: Ron Washington is often questioned for when he takes guys out of games. So, I’ll flip the question: What do you think Tampa Bay fans are saying right now about Joe Maddon’s decision to let Matt Garza stay in the game after Marlon Byrd’s two-out grand slam?
@Evan: I have been shocked at the amount of chatter I’ve heard on this site from fans that want Milton Bradley back in a Rangers uniform. I realize he had a great year last year, and I guess he wasn’t a problem in the clubhouse, but that is very unusual for him. He has had issues everywhere else he has ever played. What makes people think he’ll be a good soldier again next year? It’s just not in his nature.
Woo-hoo! So nice to see that bats finally come to life late in the season. We’re gonna need basically this same lineup to get it done next year, so it can only help.
@Evan: I think with TB being eliminated from playoff contention it doesn’t make much of a difference for TB fans. Also, Madden is known for having a “different” managing style, isn’t he?
Dang this is all with 2 outs…that seems to be a stength of ours this year…2-out rallies.
Sitting on patio at javiers on date night and following on blackberry. Go byrd! Good discussion on cruz. Sounds like an amazing game. Go rangers!
I’d think that Madden would drive me nuts in a losing season. Everything’s great when you’re winning, but his self-conscious, “look at me” quirks irritate me when I only hear about him a few times a year. Every day? Yikes.
Wow . Hitting sure is contagious.
Ryans Dad still think he regressed?
@PTRF: Bradley wasn’t a problem most of the year in the clubhouse, but the number of times he didn’t suit up over the last six weeks of the season became an open sore with his teammates. Bradley had a great year statistically and he played in more games than usual, but he did not win any admirers among the Rangers players.
@Evan, I doubt anyone in Tampa is even watching baseball tonight, they are all getting jiggy with it at the salsa bar.
Hope Millwood’s ready to do something with these runs.
Social update: Just back from watching UF-Kentucky game at a friend’s house. Tebow took a wicked hit then a knee to the back of the head. He was out cold for several minutes. He’s now in the hospital with a concussion.
In other news, Rangers are winning. Good to see Part Time Ranger Fan back. Maybe I should change my handle to Part Time Poster. But I’m a full time fan. Give us another inning Millwood and let’s bring this one home.
@DC, yes, this pitcher has failed to get anybody out. I could probably get a hit off this guy right now.
Crazy inning. Agree w/ @lamar the drought was absolutely killer last week. Now the hits and runs are flowing.
Okay, Who let The Dogs Out?
come on Hammy!!
Ryan – it’s been a pretty full college football day in Tampa. USF beats FSU, Miami loses to VT, and UF smokes Kentucky. I say that because that’s what most people were doing here today.
That umps arms have to be getting tired waving safe all the time
5 RBI’s in one inning?
This scoring stuff is fun!
@Evan: Thanks for the info on Bradley. I didn’t realize the stuff about the “injuries” and upsetting teammates, but it doesn’t surprise me. I just remember that he went to all-star game (because I did too. had to throw that in there) and had pretty good numbers. I wouldn’t want him if I was a full time rangers fan.
@John: Good to be back. I’ve been here off and on over the last couple of weeks. Been busy traveling with work and watching Yankees play bad baseball as they prepare for post-season. Haven’t given up hope for Rangers, though.
Ryans first half of season he still would be 0fer with 2 or 3 strike outs.
That pitcher looked like the one on that commercial where everyone tells the manager they aren’t ready to go home yet.
Anybody knows what the record for most runs in an inning is?
@PTRF–I had no idea that “traveling w/work was an excuse to not be here
@Ryans Dad : yes mahonney.
come on Oakland! down 3-2 to LAA…
I didn’t say he was as bad as the first half of the season DC, just heading back that way. He did however have a good at bat this inning.
Holy salsa, 9-3 now. Chris Davis hitting really makes this team better. Two walks from Andrus, too. He is becoming a professional hitter quickly.
I think Maddon should start #47 again tomorrow.
@Ranger_ve: Teh most ever scored in the 5th inning of a major league game by one team is 14. Most ever scored in any inning is 18.
Does Millwood come back out for the 6th? It has been a long time between pitches. If he can, it would save the BP but he may be cold about now.
@Alan: Sorry. Maybe if I was a Fill Time Rangers Fan I would make an effort to be here when traveling.
@Ranger_ve: The Rangers record for runs in an inning is 16, done against Baltimore on April 19, 1996.
12-3? Geez, bring in the clowns. Just kidding. Kinda. This might be a good time to pitch Guardado to pass Cy Young on the all-time appearance list.
Sign from the gods? hmmmmmm me think yes.
..mmm, crow is pretty good, tastes like chicken…
Nice job by Millwood to get through six with just two earned. This Tampa team is struggling. I think their bullpen is exhausted and Maddon has to take a little heat for that.
Well, Thank You, Mr Millwood, for that Smash Mouth answer to my question. Go Millie, Go Millie, All the way at that pitch count per inning.
Just in case ya’ll missed my last post around midnight last night, here it is again.
Ryans Dad @ September 26th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Don’t look now, but it is possible for the Rangers to show up in Anaheim on Monday EXACTLY 4 games back of the Angels. This fight ain’t over, not by a long shot! Let’s go Oakland, stay hot baby!
Ryan – is Oakland winning now?
That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
Actually 4-2 in the Bot 4
Did I really see what I just saw out of CD?
When you’re hot…
What a hit. Never should have swung but oh well.
I almost wrote Kins is the only O’Fer and then it HAPPENED. Way to Go Kins. I still say he would have 25-30 more Ribbies batting where he is all year vs batting lead-off.
That’s definitely a sign that the baseball gods are smiling at us.
Davis’ bounce hit is the only time Ive heard of that since Yogi Berra doublrd on one in the 59′s
I almost think for this team to get to the Series, it would almost have to happen in a grand fashion such as this.
For those that can’t see Davis got a single on a ball that bounced 2ft in front of homeplate.
Vlad had a bounce hit earlier in year too.
5-2 Angels
If the Rnagers go into Anaheim only four out, I’m calling an emergency family meeting and we’re going to be doing the wave with Texas Ranger rally caps the first game of that series.
C’mon A’s, start shutting them down.
If the Rangers go to Anaheim only 4 back, I will SHAVE MY HEAD
JnC, Stay off of the bridge.
9-2 Angels. Looks like the best it could be now is 5 games back
Tom – no bridges tonight. I am trying to find the words to “We Shall Overcome”
Pudge always, it seems, takes that extra base which MY never, or rarely, does. Borbon can’t even find the next bag unless he is stealing and sliding. Pudge needs to be coaching some guys on several things.
Millwood was on life support and rose to pitch effectively. That dude is down to 15 pitches per inning. It was out of sight after 1 or 2. Dang, I like the new 12 million $ man.
Hot Dang, It is a night for miracles. Gentry lives!!!!
Is not looking good for gaining ground tonight.
Okay, I’ve found the words. Everybody join hands, light the candles and incense, and sing along….

Evan, do you know what Darren O’Day’s contract situation is? Will the Rangers have to offer a lot to keep him? I think he’s been great this year.
Somebody kill me please. Quite advertising the wave
JnC You missed your calling. You should be leading protest marches.
Wash is clearing the bench. I hope Richardson gets a shot.
I was looking at the early comments on OF defense. I have no clue how the metrics are calculated, but these old eyes have seen a lot of baseball over the past 60 or so tears, played some OF and coached quite a bit. To me, Byrd is average or above. Comes in a bit better than goes back, but OK there, too. Arm pretty good. The absolute comments about his lack of ability and the Rangers chances with him there, sure surprise me. Most of you know my opinion of Cruz, the metric darling, and I think Borbon has a lot of growing to do before he’s solid ML OF.
I think I agree with Fred. Interesting
@Keith M: O’Day is not arbitration eligible yet. The Rangers will pay him less than $500,000 next year. He will be a bargain. And he should have all his minor league options remaining since, as a Rule 5 draft pick, the Rangers kept him on the roster all year.
Ryan – now, now. Let Peace, Love, and Understanding wash over your tortured soul.
Thanks for the info Evan. Bargain is right. All he does is get people out. Night after night.
It is true that the players will be greeting the fans at the gate tomorrow?
Don’t look now guys, it’s now 9-6 over in Anahiem
Surprised Millwood went seven since the game was out of hand. If you’re a positive thinker, you may want to save those 12 or so pitches for the Anaheim Angels.
My powers are amazing, I make a statement about how terrible a player is and he immediately runs off 4 consecutive hits. When will I learn.
10:05: Thanks to Ranger_ve who reminded me that tomorrow, Ranger players will be greeting fans at gates around The Ballpark as part of fan appreciation day. The players should be scattered around the park from about 12:30 until 12:50ish.
Ryan – it’s all because you are anti-wave.
I was at the 16 inning Baltimore game in 1996. I remember Orosco getting lit up big-time, among others. I think Brady Anderson also hit a HR for the O’s.
NO. EVERYONE SHOULD BE ANTI-WAVE!
I wonder what the Rays announcers are saying about Hamilton now?
Ryan – repeat after me: I’m smart, I’m funny, and doggone it, people like me!
Washington should let Gaurdado pitch the ninth.
Kudos to Millwood who had no command early, but hung in and had a pretty nice 7 inning night with 7 hits/2W/2ER
Alsp wpuld be nice if Hammy is locking him. He was starting to look better before his last injury. Now, his last 3 AB looked better
Is the sky falling? Guardado with a 1-2-3 inning. There is something crazy happening here.
9-7 in Anahiem
Night all. Peace to you, Ryan’s Dad. It’s all in fun.
31,800+ in the seats tonight. I’m thinking the Rangers tickle 2.5 million this year. I think Scooper was there tonight. Probably the cause of the Great Run Uprising.
Oakland has pulled to within 1 single run of Anaheim
Rock on A’s.
Suzuki just led off the top 7 w/a double. They need to push this run across
Come on Barton!
All tied!
DO YOU BELIEVE IN UNLIKLIEHOODS! WE ARE TIED IN ANAHEIM
LAA just went up 10-9. dang it
Crap
Lead-off double!
Living in Reno, I get most of the A’s games….do either of you fellas have the game on?
There’s definitely something magic happening here tonite.
No, I’m on Game Tracker
Yeah….sure seems like somethin’s afoot at the Circle K.
Yes I’m watching it. Mike are you getting the game in HD.
Mike – yes. Tying run at 3B and no out. Watching on iTouch on MLB TV.
Starting to look good
this is what I have been saying – Rangers didn’t “tank” – the As are freaking on fire right now. Not trying ot toot my own horn, but I said 4 weeks ago that the As (in addition to the head to head between Angels and Rangers) would decide this thing. They played us 10 times and the Angels 9.
They scare me for next year.
And I spoke too soon again
Very true Jack, but I promise you the Rangers scare Oakland just as much
JD: I did not agree with you back them but now I do. Maybe is the nothing to lose attitude or I don’t know what but the A’s are playing excellent ball.
Oh crap
No HD tonight, but can get many in HD.
I think two of the Ranger games VS the A’s were in HD last week.
Tied again!
Oh, what a day
Wow susuky is tearing it up.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AMAZING
Oakland retakes lead!!
I’m glad yous guys stuck around here tonight
wow…
AGAIN!!! 2 run lead!!
This is amazing.
Somebody go get Evan out of bed. There is still important baseball being played tonight
if this season had 25 more games, Oak would win the division!!! Go stupid As!
15-10
lol Ryan’s Dad
Hey, as far as i’m concerned they can win out for the rest of this season. That would possibly put the Rangers in the playoffs.
Yes the A’s have caught lighting in a bottle. Too late but none the less.
Do. You. Believe. In. Craziness?
Do the A’s and Angels play anymore after tomorrow?
I am feeling really good about my decision to buy tickets to tomorrow’s game (3rd deck of course — still). Go Rangers.
I love the look on scsiosa’s face when that ball when out.
This had been one of the most fun days in D/FW baseball history. Might all go south tomorrow, but tonight it’s all good.
Oh, my.
JD: I just got mine on stubhub.LOL
@Mike, the Angels end the season in Oakland
Hey, somebody got Evan out of bed. Welcome back sir
Evan, we are going to need to get a gift basket full of Texas B-B-Q together and send to Anaheim if they can complete the sweep!
Thanks, Ryan’s Dad
@Evan….great point. Still a long shot, but it never hurts to have a little hope that maybe we could still close the deal.
oops, meant Oakland
@Ryan’s Dad – hey, probably won’t change ultimate history, but I guarantee you we won’t forget this. Awesome. Just wished I had seen the Rangers’ game – one of the few I have missed since April(though will take the W!).
I’m gonna go ahead and dial up the Angels’ post game station, I can’t wait to hear this
Dand, “What hath God wrought?” “A’s” are Unconscious.
@Mike in Reno: At this point, the Rangers will go to Southern California with a chance to keep the Angels from clinching until the final weekend of the season – if they clinch at all. This team can now officially say it will go into the final week of the year still in contention.
Well they lost two to NYY and now this so the are 1-4 in the last five. Imminent Collapse?
not to digress, but why didn’t Mike Leach take the FG to go up 8? Oh, that’s right. Because he’s a freakin crazy a$$ pirate.
Meanwhile, what’s happened to A&M’s offense? And don’t give me look at the opponents — we’ve sucked against those same opponents before!!
Good times.
@evan – what is pitching matchup in As game tomorrow? I can check, but figure you know it by heart. Weaver, perhaps? Who for As? Not Anderson.
Thanks, Evan….pretty cool.
Anyone have a list of the Angels probable starters for that series?
@Jack_Daddy: Edgar Gonzalez vs. Joe Saunders.
…against Texas.
All i have to say is that after loosing four in a row that angel’s clubhouse is going to be pretty tense.
@Adam T: Looks like Angels starters the rest of the way should go like this:
Vs. Rangers: Santana, Kazmir, Weaver. Lackey.
Vs. A’s: Saunders, Santana, Kazmir.
It looks like the Angels bullpen is in dissaray, get passed Saunders and you can win
@evan – thanks. broadcast just said the same thing. eehh. Wish we could have faced Saunders. He’s our slump buster.
@Jack_Daddy: Think the Angels know Saunders numbers vs. Rangers, too.
Their bullpen has worked really hard for the past week.
this brings me back to my post from 4 days ago or so – what’s SO FRUSTRATING ABOUT this is the Angels served this up to us. We assumed we needed to win 7 of those 9 home games or at LEAST 6. As it turns out, if we just would have won 1 of the two games vs. LAA that we lost (blew the 3 run lead in the finale, couldn’t get a hit with RISP on Friday) and ended up with just THREE wins in that homestand, we would be 3 out going into tomorrow.
Really crazy. Again, I don’t think we blew it though. Got beat by Felix and swept by a smoking hot Oakland team. It is what is.
You know who I credit in a MAJOR way, as he stayed completely even-keel – Wash. Evan, this would make a good article for you tomorrow. You have to give the captain of this ship credit – he kept the calm.
Pretty amazing stuff.
Bailey is on, Lights out in LA LA Land.
LAA has not lost four in a row this year. Good Timing.
Santana, Kazmir, Weaver and Lackey. Pretty stout, huh? With the offense they have, they are a scary bunch, huh?
I HOPE that we don’t spend the off-season thinking Kazmir was the difference in this thing.
Those fools Galloway and JFE will write a half dozen stories harpooning either JD or Hicks. WHEN 26 teams passed on Kazmir!!
@Evan…..how many Rangers do you think are aware of what’s happening right now?
@Jack_Daddy: 26 teams may have passed on Kazmir but only two of them were theoretically competing with the Angels for a playoff spot: Boston and Texas. The Rangers, I’m pretty sure couldn’t afford to take the risk they’d get stuck with him. The Red Sox? No idea why they passed.
Game Time!
@Evan – good point about the Sox. Surprising huh?
Phillies were a surprise. So were Tigers, don’t you think?
@Mike in Reno: Feeling a little bit yucky, I avoided the clubhouse and beat a quick retreat out of Arlington tonight to avoid fireworks traffic and get some cold meds in me. So, I don’t know how many guys were lingering in clubhouse. But I would imagine just about everybody who can, is watching the game at home right now.
MnR. They might still be tuned in and watching to the bitter end.
@Mike – was wondering the same thing. I wonder if they are all still in clubhouse. I would be.
Turn on ESPN 2 – Houston about to maybe beat Tech. 1 minute to go. 2nd and goal.
Or was. It’s final. 15-10, A’s. Rangers are five back. The Rangers can extend the race into next weekend by winning four straight at Anaheim starting with Monday’s game.
Thanks, Evan….get to feeling better.
Night all….thanks for hanging out with this West Coast guy. I know it’s late where you all are.
Let’s hope the Rangers can pull this out.
Oh, snap. Houston. And Jack Daddy, did you say Leach did not go for a makeable field goal earlier? How long of a field goal would it have been?
Touchdown Cougar High. Nice. I hope I’m not offending any Tech alum out there, but I don’t like that team (and of course it is b/c they have beat the snot out of A&M for about 10 years now – hey, I didn’t say I was rational)
They went for it on Fourth and goal from about the 2.
Evan they were on the 3 i think.
Well, this would go down as a giant gaffe on Leach’s part.
Will the real McCarthy show up on Sunday?
Fun night on the Corner, and I didn’t even join until about an hour ago.
Thanks for creating this community Evan.
Good night all, and seriously, I hope I didn’t offend any Techies out there (or Houston fans with the Cougar High reference). Old habits die hard.
@Tom B – you sure you want that?
Do we even know what that is?
You gotta go for the gusto!
I enjoyed it too guys. Will see you tomorrow afternoon if I can resist the urge to go golfing.
Good Day
Rangers win, Tech loses. All in all a great night.
Byrd is a huge key for 2010. With him, we can put up a balanced deep offense next year. Without him; Cruz is our only right handed bat in the outfield, with Hamilton, Borbon and Murphy comprising the other four. Then we are banking on Max Ram being healthy and providing a right handed bat at DH. Unfortunately, Byrd probably priced himself out of our price range tonite.
Did anyone see Buffett in Paris on Sat. night? I missed my flight.
Wake up Ranger fans. Today is the day. Last home game of a great season, we are still in it and the future is Bright.
Wow, I’d taken that Angels win as a given and hadn’t even checked back for a couple hours this morning. Amazing!
