Bye Week Impromptu Chat

OK, we may need to file this under “ideas that may need some work,” but last night I decided to tweet my location (www.twitter.com/bobanddan) on the web for an impromptu sports chat with anyone who was interested. I think 30 or so of you dropped everything and joined me.

In looking at this, it is hard to follow and doesn’t go deep on too much. But, we spent an hour and touched on a pretty large range of stuff. So, if you want to relive your moment of stardom, or just kill off 30 minutes of your morning by trying to read this chat, enjoy:

Five Minutes With the Dallas Stars’ Mike Modano

FRISCO - Mike Modano reported to his first NHL training camp in autumn 1988 in Kalamazoo, Mich., home of the Minnesota North Stars’ farm club.

Next week, camp No. 21 will get underway and include a field trip to Central Texas to help kick off the Stars’ new affiliate in Cedar Park. This week, most of the players are participating in voluntary workouts.

The NHL career goals and scoring leader among American players, Modano turned 39 over the summer and decided to at least finish out his current contract, take another run at a Stanley Cup now more than a decade since that late night in Buffalo, and maybe make a fourth trip to the Olympics.

Modano sat down for brief interrogation earlier this week:

Chat With Bryan Broaddus – Episode 2

Bryan Broaddus chatted with us a few weeks ago, and things went so well that we wanted to do it again today.

As you may already know, Bryan is a long-time scout and personnel man in the NFL. His experience served the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers well, and now we can pick his brain.

Last time, the chat was 100% about the offense, and the various ideas Jason Garrett may utilize and employ this season, so now let’s examine the defense with Broaddus.

You can follow his Rapid Reports on CBS Sportsline and can find him on ESPN Radio.

Here is what we discussed this time:

Chatting Soccer with Bobby Rhine

us-mexicoIt is a big day if you love the beautiful game today: First, you are seeing the first-ever All Soccer blog entry in the history of Inside Corner. I am sure it will be met with some level of resistance, but I can take it.

But, the 2nd reason for happy soccer time is that today is another chance for our beloved United States of America National Team to get their first ever win in Mexico City (3pm, Telemundo – Channel 39). We seem to have plenty of success on our home soil, but when the US heads south of the border, they have managed just 1 draw in 72 years of matches in Mexico City.

So, I wanted to mark this special day with a soccer chat with my buddy, Bobby Rhine. Chances are if you follow soccer in the area, you are quite familiar with his fine work – which includes well over 200 MLS matches for Dallas and now he is a member of the FC Dallas front office.

We will bounce around various soccer topics, and chances are, we will do this again soon. Enjoy:

Cowboys Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Bryan Broaddus is one of those guys who can say things because he has done things. For many years, Broaddus was a scout in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. He knows what scouting departments look for, and looks at football from a different perspective than many people in the media.

I really, really desire to understand more of the NFL game from a coach/scout perspective, and I find you can only do this if you figure out what they look for.

That is not terribly easy, but talking to Bryan whenever I can is one way to learn. And, unless you have worked in the NFL, you cannot learn enough of this great game.

You can follow his Rapid Reports on CBS Sportsline and can find him on ESPN Radio. He knows what he speaks of, and for his chat we talk all offense. I think in the next few weeks, we will get him back for a discussion of the defense. But, here is our talk about the offense of the Dallas Cowboys:

Chatting Cowboys with Rafael Vela

book56_300One thing we want to do here at Inside Corner as the Dallas Cowboy season goes on is quite a few chats with other people around the Cowboys World who can add plenty of wisdom to the conversation.

Hopefully, you are familiar with the guys at BloggingtheBoys.com . They have some of the very best Cowboys analysis available, and I check it out all of the time. In fact, this year, those guys have put together an entire Cowboys annual that is on newstands now . I have my own copy, and I would love for you to check it out.

Anyway, Rafael Vela is a writer who I have followed for several years. He is one of my favorites because he uses evidence rather than emotion to craft his opinions.  I always prefer that type of mind over the “fly off the handle” emotional writers.  His writings dive deep, and I generally enjoy what he offers.   Anyway, he was kind enough to give me 60 minutes and we have about 3,000 words for you to consider this morning as we prepare for the 2009 season.

Chatting Rangers With Evan and MJH

Since we are close to the Friday trade deadline, I thought last night was a good chance to pick the brains of Mr. Grant and Mr Hindman during the first hour of last night’s game against Detroit. We talked about Rangers pitching and deadline moves, as well as what it might take to get Roy Halladay, and what the Rangers motivation level should be.

One note, both of the chatters have busy lives, so Evan arrived a bit after we started, and Mike had to leave a bit early, but still we got you almost 2,000 words of Rangers talk for you to digest today.

Armchair GM Roundtable: Trade Deadline Edition

Back by popular demand, another mind-tingling edition of Armchair Roundtable and once again it’s huge.

Yesterday morning, I assembled Our Leader (Evan Grant), the Godfather (Jamey Newberg: The Newberg Report), and The Wonder Kid (Joey Matschulat, founder of Baseball Time in Arlington) in a chat room to kick around the Rangers options at the trade deadline.

Make the jump for an explosive edition of Armchair Roundtable where I think we manage to illustrate just how difficult the decisions will be for the Rangers as they engage in trade discussions this week.

Plus, we find out what kind of ice cream Jamey, Evan and Gerry Fraley favor.

Kevin Millwood Chat Reminder

Kevin Millwood will be here at 2 p.m. to answer questions about the Rangers, the upcoming series against Los Angeles and maybe even his picks for the HP Byron Nelson (since he’s the best golfer on the staff).

UPDATE: Evan just got to the ballpark at 2 pm. He will be chatting soon with Kevin Millwood. Give him five minutes, 10 on the outside. –Eric

Kevin Millwood Chat At 2 Today

I think the headline says it all, but I’ll follow it up with this: If I can manage to operate the software, Rangers RHP Kevin Millwood will join us for about 45 minutes at 2 p.m. today to talk about his season, the pitching staff’s success and, yes, the first-place Texas Rangers. We will have the link posted shortly. And keep your fingers crossed that I can manage to operate the chat room.

Viral Video: Rangers Roundtable In A Square Booth

You didn’t think we’d gather the peeps at Pappadeaux and not argue baseball, did you? Special guest Jamey Newberg of The Newberg Minor League Report and Bob Sturm of, well, everywhere joined the videographer extraordinaire (and the guy who ordered chicken fingers at a a seafood restaurant) Ted Price and myself to talk baseball before last night’s Home Run Happy Hour.
