Will we rank the area’s most intriguing/interesting/important sports figures on a weekly basis? It’s our intention. But who knows how it will go. Feel free to adjust, discuss, ridicule or praise our rankings.

10. Rodrigue Beaubois: First-rounder scores 23 in leading Mavs to victory. Probably won’t be duplicating that line during the regular season.

9. Tom Watson: Sure, he’s not from Dallas and is one of a half-dozen pro golfers who don’t call the area home. But he’s 59 and took the British Open to a playoff. He’s intriguing in anyone’s rankings.

8. Ian Kinsler: Maybe leadoff homer/walk-off homer on Sunday will get him going. Rangers offense desperately needs it.

7. Josh Hamilton: Speaking of guys the Rangers offense desperately needs. At least there were subtle signs at All-Star Game and in first game back from break that maybe he’s found his swing.

6. Neftali Feliz: Pitched in relief on back-to-back days for Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday and Friday. Officially starts Neftali Watch, countdown until he debuts with Rangers.

5. Martellus Bennett: He is really making a name for himself. One day, he might even do it as a football player.

4. Nelson Cruz: Maybe he was so effective in the Home Run Derby because he was fresh after being benched for three consecutive games the week before.

3. Tony Romo: You see a guy on the breakup rebound? We do. Golf junkets. Wacky videos. What’s next? A tryst with Kate Gosselin?

2. Marcin Gortat: Magic magically matched Mavs contract offer, keeping Polish center from blocking our view of Eric Dampier. And we were so looking forward to Pierogies at the AAC.

1. Roy Halladay: Would he waive no trade clause to come to Texas? Can Rangers afford him? Ah, who cares? It’s a lot more fun speculating on who the Rangers might acquire rather than on who they might trade away.
