Viral Video: A Little Something Salty To Help Kill The Time While Waiting For Trade Deadline News

As always, we owe a great deal of thanks to Ted Price, the creative genius behind producing Viral Video. He’s a regular techno-whiz. And you can always catch him at Rangers Podcast in Arlington. In this episode, we talk with Jarrod Saltalamacchia about the defensive improvement he’s made over the past year and wrap up with a little catching fashion accessory talk at the end.

Viral Video: Rangers Outfielder Nelson Cruz

I’m still not quite up to speed on the whole taped-in-advance thing, so this video, shot late last week, mentions Cruz’s fractured finger (which didn’t seem to bother him too much last night) and his Home Run Derby performance.

Viral Video: Nolan Ryan On Rangers Bullpen

We cornered Nolan Ryan this week to get him to talk about that most surprising of Rangers strengths: The Bullpen. Hope I’m not spoiling the plot, but best line was when I asked him about his confidence in the bullpen and he says: “Well, it’s a lot higher than it was last year, I can tell you that.”

Viral Video: Rangers Starter Tommy Hunter

Tommy Hunter makes his second appearance on Viral Video this week, but his first one was as a member of the Frisco RoughRiders. Besides talking about the changes he’s made since his last big league stint, Hunter also reminds me that I owe him lunch. I thought maybe the great Ted Price would have edited that out. We’ve got more on Hunter coming up in the next few days, too. And we shot a bunch of great video yesterday, so look for upcoming interviews with Nolan Ryan, Ron Washington, Nelson Cruz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Viral Video: Rangers Starter Scott Feldman

Consider this a preview for tonight’s start by RHP Scott Feldman at Arizona. On the last homestand, he sat down with me and my belly to discuss his journey to the center of the starting rotation. As always, the direction, editing, lighting, cinematography and catering was provided by the multi-talented Ted Price.

Viral Video: Rangers Prospect Tommy Hunter

Marlon Byrd talked to InsideCorner on Wednesday, then went out and piled up five hits. Tommy Hunter talked to us yesterday ahead of his first start of the season for Double-A Frisco tonight? Is it a good luck charm to visit with us. We shall see.

Especially like the freeze frame producer, director and lighting coordinator Ted Price of Rangers Podcast in Arlington caught of Hunter at the start. He’s looking at me like I’m nuts. Well, I am. More video coming over the weekend.

Helping You Kill Off Your Work Day

sleeping_on_the_jobHere is something for you – pick one or more of the following to help get you through the day:

• Mike Hindman told me about this webpage when I told him I wanted us, here at Inside Corner, to construct a complete and easy to read Rangers Contract page – complete with arbitration/service time listings and payroll. Mike’s answer “Scott Lucas already did it”. And, he did. Check the link.  http://rangers.scottlucas.com/site/40man.htm It is awesome and worthy of a bookmark.

• Last week, the Dallas Stars Postgame Show (Bob and Dan) visited with Stars General Manager Les Jackson for nearly 30 minutes. If hearing about prospects, draft spot, roster building, Marty Turco’s work load, and a whole lot more, then this interview is for you: Give a listen to the full interview here . I think it is a good listen for those who are a bit bummed hockey season in Dallas has come to a close.

Rangers Radio Broadcast Team: Dave Barnett And Eric Nadel

dscn2739-small1Today marks the beginning of Eric Nadel’s 31st year of broadcasting Texas Rangers baseball. Thirty-one years at one job? On the other end of the spectrum, his new broadcast partner, Dave Barnett, is calling his first game as Eric’s side kick. Barnett, originally from Denton, has been with ESPN for the last 13 years. He also called the Mav’s games from 1981 to 1988.  Here is the twosome just before they hit the airwaves.

Yet Another Multi-Media Alert: Talkin’ Baseball With Bob Sturm And Dan McDowell

If you are in the car, stuck in traffic on the way to Arlington, I’ll be on with the BaD boys at 12:10 on The Ticket (KTCK-1310 AM). You could also listen while you are in the parking lot or on your little transistor radio. And, if you are stuck at work, well, I’m sorry. But you could always hook up on the computer.

Multi-Media Alert: Adjust Your TVs

If you are watching the game at home on Fox Sports Southwest, there will be a large blue blob invading your screen in the top of the fourth inning. That would be me. Announcement of major importance (at least to my parents) should be forthcoming during my air time.

UPDATE: In case you missed the semi-large announcement (well, I guess any announcement involving me is large), I’ve joined the Fox Sports Southwest team and will be a pre- and post-game analyst for about 15 games this season on Rangers Live.

More Video: Jamey Newberg-Evan Grant Discuss Rangers Catching

It’s good stuff. I promise. If you don’t like this, take Nancy the Puck Bunny’s suggestion and check this out.

Today: Evan Grant-Tim Cowlishaw Death Match!

We’ll be taking a short break from our administrative duties in aabout 90 minutes away.  With the super friendly Ben & Skin and engineer extraordinaire Ted Nichols-Payne serving as our special referees on 105.3-KRLD FM “The Fan,” I’ll be squaring off against my nemesis – Hellooooo, Cowlishaw – at 5:56 p.m. (CDT). Two men put on headsets; one man walks out.

If you’ve got baseball-related topics you’d like me to hear about, now is the time to start sending in suggestions. I do plan to ask Tim if he’s going to be doing any photo shoots with Details Magazine anytime soon. Or maybe about who wrote his Wikipedia page. But not Radiohead.

More Fun With Video: Kevin Millwood Talks Training

Thanks again to the wonderfully talented and quick-working Ted Price of Rangers Podcast in Arlington, we’ve scored another video report. Here’s footage of us discussing the new-and-improved Kevin Millwood with Millwood himself. Also, Millwood, a diehard Duke fan, gives us his (partially) unbiased take on the NCAA basketball tournament.

InsideCorner for Your Eyes and Ears: Talking Rangers Pitching, Getting Hassled by Michael Young

Ted Price of Rangers Podcast in Arlington has been at Spring Training for a few days toting around expensive video equipment. We chatted for a bit about the 2009 Rangers on said camera. And the results can be found right here:

Directors note:  While the camera work is outstanding (especially considering the subject), be aware that there is an odd shaking of the frame midway through. Do not fear: Arizona is not suddenly sitting on the San Andreas fault; it was instead the work of a certain Rangers third baseman firing (OK, lobbing) baseballs from a 100 feet or so away. Not sure if he wanted to show off the accuracy of his arm or if he merely wanted to jack with me. I suspect the latter.

Evan On The Ticket: Our Fearless Leader Talks InsideCorner and Rangers

Yesterday, Mark Elfenbein of The Ticket spoke with Evan Grant about the new website and all things spring training. Give it a listen with your ears.
